I use Typinator for text expansion, but I prefer Textexpander's sound (bubble). Is there a way, manipulating the Library folder or whatever, to take the sound file for Textexpander and throw it in Typinator's and then use it?
View 1 RepliesThe first batch of videos was copied to an external drive from a Windows PC with MacDrive installed. When I came back to my Mac, I plugged the external drive into my Mac and moved those files to my hard drive.The second batch was copied using Connect to Server command right from my Mac.The funny thing is Final Cut Pro cannot recognize the first batch of videos.So I took a look at the file permissions using Terminal. All of the videos in the first batch have a file permission of -rwxr-xr-x@ but the others have -rwxr-xr-x. I tried to do a chmod 755 on every video file, but the @ sign still wouldn't go away.
View 7 Replies View RelatedFriends were having major problems with Mac OS 10.5.8. I tried to install 10.6 but the installation stalled several times. Through it all, I got OS 10.5.8 running for them again but the sound application is now missing, so I can't get the iMac to play sounds effects nor will it show the Harmann Kardon sound sticks as a sound output. They can't find their original install discs and I do not have that version. Will the sound application for system 10.6 work if I drag that file into their 10.5.8 system?

I have been sent an important file with the above suffix, and I don't know how to open it. I specified Microsoft Word when asked as that seemed the most logical contender, but I can't open it in any of the formats that offers. At least, I can open the file, but it comes out as a garbled mass of symbols. Please could someone tell me how to change the default for opening it and what to change it to?

View 11 Replies View Relatedthis is driving me insane. On Tiger I was always able to select the default application to open a given file type, but I can't do this in SL. I want the XLD app to always open my .flac files. So, I click on a .flack file, select "get info" and select "Open with - XLD", and then I click CHANGE ALL. Fine. Next time, I just click "open" on a .flac and it's back to some other application being the default for opening the file, and not XLD! It keeps doing that, no matter how I keep trying to get XLD to be the default... what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to get it to work?

Goal:
Main goal is a central repository for All of my documents (PDF's, word files, txt files, notes/receipts etc...), all with a user interface so that I may browse my documents.
Problem:
The problem I am having is that none of the apps i have found have everything I need. Now if i could put 2 or three apps coding into one, then I'd have a winner
Needs:
� Tagging system (Devonthink Pro is not functioning)
� Accessible file structure (no sparse bundles etc...), so that I may access my files via drop box if away from my computer, without the actual program.
� Smart Folders As Subfolders WITH Tagging. An example would be to make 3 Nested smart folders ( Personal Folder / School Folder / Math Folder) Now if I dropped a File on the Math Folder Tags would be added to the file to satisfy the entire Folder structure. Please let me know if this needs further explanation.
Wants:
� Shelf would be nice. Devonthink has one that operates as a separate app than the actual program, Together has one, but only when the program is active.
� Decent search ability, but I would think this is easily done utilizing spotlights abilities. I am already manually OCR'ing my PDF's with Acrobat.
I think i mentioned most things, but am sure i missed out on a few points. The best implementation of what I want is a mix of Journler, Together, and DevonThink Pro. Journler nails the tagging, and nested folders perfectly. But does not have a file structure that is usable without the program. DevonThink fales with both nested folders and lack of tagging. I have settled on Together for now, as it works with the file structure I want, and supports tagging. Just does not have smart tagging.

I tried searching the apple website, and it talks about using migration assistant with firewire to transfer the files.
Now that the new macbook doesn't have firewire port, how do I transfer files and applications from my iBook?
I have setup up Finder to view all folders/files. I know how to become root from Terminal using (su) and navigate to all folders and do things.
The problem I can't figure out is when I use Mac apps (such as TextEdit) to open a file in one of the hidden folders (such as /private/etc/apache,) I dont see them in the dialog even though I am logged in as root and have enabled the Finder to show all files.
Is there a way to view all the folders from these dialog boxes? I dont want to use vim or pico for editing.
I am trying to watch a .avi file, and there is no sound for the particular clip.
However, other .avi files are working and give both video and audio.
this one however is only producing video. is there a plug-in or something i need to download?

I also have realised however that my pupil for a lesson (the file is for language-lesson) does not have a Mac anyway, so maybe she won't have Quicktime. I can ask her to download the latter then. how can I hear the soundfile and make it compatible with Quicktime?

I am new to a mac and have the download setting set up to drop on desktop when I download something.
My question is that I downloaded some widgets today for the desktop like "The Weather Channel" one. When it finished downloaded, it appeared on the desktop as two files a zip file and another file. I then had to click on it to run it but in the end I had to move the zip file to the trash after I was done installing it. Is that normal. Should there be two files each time. Do I need to turn on/off a setting.
Also happened when I clicked on a video to watch, I was streaming it but when I flashed to my desktop it downloaded it also. Is this normal.
My Macbook Pro has been not updating, crashing applications, and force restarting. The problem has finally showed itself this morning. Finder crashed and when I tried to open it, I got a " Cannot open because file or application does not have a back up on time machine, and it is corrupted or incomplete (null)

I downloaded an .avi file and the sound won't play. It said the audio was in dolby ac3 code 8192 and I would need a plug-in. I tried converting to DivX and playing through Flip & that didn't work either. I tried placing the file in the library>audio>plug-in>component folder & that didn't work. There is no Quicktime folder to place it in.

I have a problem that when selecting a file that is either an attachment in email or is in my finder, double clicking on it fails to load the associated application successfully. For example, selecting a pdf file results in the pdf reader logo appearing on the lower bar on the screen, bounces up and down as if it is doing something, but just continues to bounce. I have to force quit it, then go to my application folder to load reader directly, and from within the reader I can then go and select the file. This isn't an application specific issue (It does it with Excel, Word etc).
It only started recently. I'm using a MBP summer 2010 with Mavericks 10.9.4. Everything else seems to work.

i just a macbook (used from a friend) and I decided to record in photo booth a 2 minute video of me and my son (i have done two before and worked fine) and I thought it went well but when I decided to play it the only thing that worked on it was the video but had no audio playback. Everytime I want to select a sound file to move or delete it, I move the mouse over the file, click, and the silly thing starts to play. Okay, I know I can click outside the play button, but it is an extra bother to have to precisely position my mouse to avoid playing the file, a bother I can do without.

I managed to successfully hide the file: cat picture.jpg hidden.rtf.zip > picture2.jpg
results in a picture (picture2.jpg) that is the size of the sum of picture.jpg and hidden.rtf.zip. I presume this means that I am successfully putting hidden into the picture.I can open picture2.jpg, but I can't figure out a way to access the hidden zip.
