I tried searching the apple website, and it talks about using migration assistant with firewire to transfer the files.
Now that the new macbook doesn't have firewire port, how do I transfer files and applications from my iBook?
I connected it via ethernet to her old iBook, and unfortunately the iBook doesn't have a Set-up Assistant or Migration Manager, so we're unable to transfer over her address book entries or old emails.

how do I transfer all of my data from my ibook to my new macbook pro? I just bought a western digital 250 gb hard drive and I already just backed up all of my ibook stuff on the external hard drive.
So i assume once my new laptop comes in, I just plug in the external hard drive to the macbook pro and transfer it. Is it really that simple or am I missing something? Will all of my pictures and music go directly into iphoto and itunes or will I have to mannually do that? That would be a real pain if I had to manually do it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a new 15" Macbook Pro to replace my old iBook G4 and want to transfer information to the new one. The Migration Assistant says I have a few options and I am deciding between these two:
1. Transfer info from another Mac
2. Transfer info from a Time Machine backup
Which would offer the most flexibility so I don't transfer too much? I'd like to start fresh but need my photos, internet files, etc. My last time machine backup was yesterday so it's pretty up to date, but I'm worried it will transfer too much crap since it backs up the whole drive.
So my current computer is an iBook G4, running 10.4. It's been a good computer for me, but it is certainly starting to show it's age and slowing down. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Macbook Pro with 10.6. My question is what would be the best way to transfer my data from my iBook to a new Macbook Pro? Thank you.

I've pulled the HD and have it connected to my MBP using an external HD adapter. I tried using Migration Assistant to move the data but the only choice I have is to move the profile and not the rest of the data. Does anyone have a suggestion for a workaround?

Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.
Can anyone explain to me how to remove keys on a powerbook 15 aluminum? i spilled a few drops of gatorade on the computer the other night and now the spacebar is sticky .. i think removing it and cleaning underneath will do the trick, but i'm terrified to break the keys by prying them off.. i've been searching the internet for about an hour and can't come up with anything
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.
Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^

How much faster would the G4 be over my G3. I figure that after selling my G3, the G4 would only be another $200ish on top of it. Would this be worth it?
I just bought a parts ibook from ebay, but I managed to fix it, except there was no hard drive. I currently have a 6 GB HD in it with OS X.3.9 on it, but I want tiger. View 11 Replies View RelatedWhile copying files from my digital camera xD card onto my mini, the Card reader un-mounted itself and remounted its self several times, I have no idea why...Now I have a load of 0Kb files in the folder where I was copying to. I can delete these, but they come up with a "file in use" error message so I need to click for each file to be deleted... ~350 left I did try a restart thinking that may clear up any "pending" file transfers from the system to allow them to be deleted like a normal file

How do I transfer files - in particular photos and iTunes stuff. Migration assistant does not work - it just spends hours looking for other computers. I could not get hold of a Thunderbolt/Firewire converter (none in stock). I have got a thunderbolt to ethernet converter but cannot seem to do anything with this.
So, I'll spare you guys the details, haha, but I am stuck trying to decide between getting an iMac Intel or a MacBook Pro for my home use computer. What would be the advantages of one over the other? I just really love the fact that a MacBook Pro would be portable yet powerful. And yes, I have this iBook for portability to school and such, but if I want to do extensive work on the couch, I could bring a MBP vs. an iMac. What do you all think? Are too laptops redundant?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy original boot drive went south and won't boot. However, I can access all the docs and folders when using it as a second, 'data' drive. I have a new boot drive with a fresh copy of OSX installed.
How can I copy my applications over to the new drive? Is there any way to retain my old preferences/setups in the applications.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to transfer a 2.35 GB file (it is windows 7 .iso) to a MicroSD card (using the USB adapter that comes with the micro sd) and when I try to transfer it, it stops and eject the drive and then it tells me "ERROR you disconnected the drive without ejecting it, it can get damage doing that" (something like that) and it says it cant finish transferring the file cause I don't have enough privileges or Insufficient Privileges. The thing is, that the file can be put on the micro sd cause a few hours ago it was in there, i put it on the mac, till I use the micro sd for something else, then now when i want to put it back it does that...
