Oct 2, 2009Does anybody know when Microsoft plans on releasing a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac? One of my co-workers currently own the 2008 version and he's really unhappy with it. He has an excel file that's around 4MB in filesize, containing some 11,000 rows and a bunch of columns too and it's really slow to work with (he has a 1 year old MacBook Pro) and some times excel also "runs out of memory" it says and the application just freezes. It should be updated properly etc, but I wonder if maybe a newer version more suited for Snow Leopard, might be released soon?

Sep 7, 2009I installed Microsoft Office for Mac 2008, but I really do not want or need Microsoft Entourage or Messenger. I have read that if you only uninstall part of Microsoft Office, it'll create problems with the other programs in the suite. How can I go about safely uninstalling these programs? Do I need to fully uninstall and then re-install? I made sure while installing Office to opt for a custom installation so I could un-check Entourage and Messenger. However, I didn't see those specific programs on the custom installation list. Are they maybe under a different name (like, for example, "Microsoft Essentials")? I don't know what to do. Help is much appreciated!

Nov 22, 2009I have a ~31 MB PowerPoint talk for work. I updated it minimally and it opens in Slide Sorter view just fine and appears normal (ie, all slides show up appropriately). However, once open, I cannot save it, either immediately or after making additional changes. Every time I save it I get a dialog box that is defective: it shows the orange PowerPoint logo on the left, and the aqua blue action button on the right, but the rest of the box is blank. I presume the aqua blue button should say OK or something, but it has not text in it. There is no text in the remainder of the box anywhere. If I click the aqua blue button PowerPoint either crashes or the box goes away and nothing happens. If I try Save As PowerPoint always crashes. Weird. I have no idea what to do.

I got this warning in the log and I do not know whether there is any problem with it. I am a bit paranoid if any spyware/trojan that is trying to open backdoord connection to steal data from my Mac. I also sometimes found some strange files in the recycle bin that named something like "recovery" but it turned into something else when clicked on the files.

Aug 13, 2010I am having a very troubling issue on two different computers. Both run the latest Snow Leopard and Microsoft Word 2008. The problem is the following: Every single time I save a .doc file I end up with a corrupt doc: I can open it only with the computer that created it, and only with Word. No other software (even QL on the same computer) can open it. I have to re-open the doc with Word, SAVE AS, do a compatibility check, ignore all the issues or fix them, then save it with a different name. Then it works.
The only difference between the two computers is that with Word 2008 at times I cannot even save it with the workaround I explained above: I have to save as DOCX with compatibility check in order for it to work.
This is getting really annoying, as every time I have to send a .doc for work reasons (several times a day), I end up having to triple check it and save it.

I relaunch and it takes me back to the last spreadsheet I had open but sometimes it doesn't save the last changes. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Office files and it still continues to happen. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.Â
