OS X :: Unable To View And Delete Zip Part File In Downloads?
Aug 22, 2009
I've got an issue where I have a bunch of .zip.part files in my downloads stack, which I cannot remove (I do not know how to remove a file directly from the stack, perhaps there's a way?) because when I open the downloads folder in finder, they aren't there.
I am relatively new to the Mac. I have a Macbook Pro 2.2GHz. Today, a file keeps popping up on my desktop. It is named .DS_Store. The icon looks like a text document. I won't open it cuz I'm afraid of what it is, lol (Windows still clogging my brain). Anyway, I can drag it to the trash and delete the trash, but after a bit, it reappears.
I get an error when i tried to open the .JPG image file. This file was actually recovered from my pendrive. As it was in .SCR i had to use the image recovery software and got it done in .JPG.The file's preview is avaialbe only on the app i used to recover. After i stored the image file on desktop and tried to open it i get an error "It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
I have a security camera system at work & i need to pull video from it and view it on my MBP. The file it gives me when I output from the machine is an .arv, (which I have never heard of) but I cannot seem to find software (preferably freeware?) to read it. The system gives me a viewer ("DVR Viewer"), but it is an .exe, so it won't run on my system.
I have a batch of HD video downloads in my iTunes Store queue that I can't delete. Before it was annoying, having to purchase both the regular video and HD video, then delete the unwanted HD download from my queue list, but now it's a problem. I can't empty the unwanted HD downloads, and for me to download them all will tie up my connection for a week or more.
I downloaded this application for my iPhone which installed itself into my applications folder. Soon after I downloaded it I decided I didn't really want it and tried to delete it, but it kept on saying "Unable to delete" cause it was in use or something. I did look at some threads giving advice on this subject and tried some other ways of deleting it but nothing happened and the file name is now "deleteme.rtf.app". Whenever I try Terminal it says there isn't a file on the desktop and I've made 100% sure all the letters are the right spaces apart etc, so now I'm stuck.
I made a garageband file(.band) and now when I try to delete it, it says "The item “Hey.band” can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted." I have tried repairing disk permissions with disk utility.
I have an mp3 file on the desktop I am unable to move to trash.
Everytime I attempt to move to trash it says "the file is being used by another task right now". This message occurs even if I close every program I am running.
I opened the process viewer, but I don't see anything that could possibly be using an mp3 file.
the only player i have is iTunes and it is off.
I attempted to duplicate the file on the desktop, but was told that "you do not have sufficient priviledges". But I have rwx for everything!
when trying to unlock the usual way (right click - get info - uncheck the locked box) it will not allow to uncheck, the check mark just keeps coming back. Troubleshooting already done:
- Tried a disk repair, this didn't work
- Logged in as Admin and tried deleting the file, this didn't work
- launching terminal and "sudo rm -f" -- this idea didn't work either
No sign, look: Yet, in stacks it's one of the 5 choice views? Am I missing something very obvious, or is this not (one of) the biggest oversights 'ever', on Apple's part?
I would like to direct my Documents, Pictures, and "Other" to 3 folders in my downloads folder upon downloading them, either with Safari, with Finder, Folder Actions, Automator, or with any other free tool that does not take up too much CPU load.
Earlier tonight I opened iCal, only to find that none of my calendars were there. it was completely empty. However, when I changed the view from "Week" to "Month" all of my events were listed (in the proper color) on the appropriate day, but I still had no list of calendars on the left. Subsequent changes between "Day" "Week" and "Month" view continued to display the events properly, but nothing showed up in the calendar menu on the left.
I repaired permissions same thing happened.I trashed com.apple.ical pref (forgot the exact filename)same behavior. I use .mac to sync between computers, and I use Missing Sync to sync to a Palm T|X.
I was downloading a large 1.3GB file and when I paused it and resumed it again, it stopped working. All I have now is the .part file that is 999MB. Is there anyway that I can resume downloading this file from the 999MB point, so I don't have to download from the start again?
Is there a way to delete an item from my downloads folder that is in my dock without dragging it to the trash? Is there a way to get a context menu on items in the downloads folder?
I have a few items in my downloads stack, but 3 of them that don't exist in the folder anymore are just sitting there. I can try and move em out but i get the "circle with a slash" thing. And if i drag them to the trash, nothing happens. If i click on them to open it says "application cannot be found"
I accidentally deleted my "downloads" stack, so I dragged the "downloads" folder from my home directory into the dock. Lo and behold, the stack came back...but not the way I remembered it. Everything was "backwards" if I tried to sort by "date added". Normally, the most recent downloads are at the bottom; however, now it is backwards. I didn't lose any files, but it is very annoying! I Googled this issue and it seemed like trashing the dock plist would solve the problem. I did that, logged out, and logged back in, and it sure did reset all of the dock settings to their defaults - everything, of course, EXCEPT for the downloads stack! It did more harm than good - all of my icons are out of place now, and yet I am still having the same old "backwards" issue with the downloads stack. Does anyone know where this problem actually lies?
i Have over 40 gigs of files in my downloads folder (a lot of which is music) Is it safe to delete this folder? should i do something first? get an app to do it for me?
