Alright, here's the situation. I have a 1TB external set up with 250gigs partitioned for backing up with time machine, and the rest just for storing files. My time machine partition was full so i decided to move the 5 oldest backups to the trash to make some more room. But when i went to delete trash it counted up to a couple million files and just sat there saying preparing to delete. It was never able to actually start deleting the files, it was just preparing to delete for a couple hours.
I can't possible delete the thousands of junk files that showed up in Finder once I downloaded Maverick. I can't delete more than one at a time now. Why won't the highlighting stay in place on more than one file that I want to delete?
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)
When I try to delete my email messages a pop down box shows up on the screen telling me that "The message (whatever one it may be) could not be moved to the mailbox 'Deleted message-mail.comcast.net does not allow messages to be moved to it.
Is it possible for me to have deleted the original trash box from the left hand column of the mail page? And that is why these email message cannot be delelted?
I have been given all kinds of sites to go to in hopes of correcting this problem but none of them has been the one that works to correct it for me I have over 45,000 messages that I need to get rid of and I just can't figure out how to get them to move to the trash file or folder and it doesn't work.
Have just added two external WD My book drives using time machine. In the process files were saved, copied between drives and then sent to trash. I now have have the operating software for the drive backup firmly anchored in my trash bin. It won't get rid of it. How do I overcome this problem.
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I'm in Mail and my trash has about 80 deleted messages. I cannot figure out how to do a mass delete. Please don't tell me this has to be done one delete at a time. I've tried a few key strokes and mouse/key combinations, but obviously not the right ones. Now, this is not in MAILBOXES, where a right click and Erase Deleted Items does the job. This is under my 'GMAIL' box, which is linked to MAIL. I can right click--erase deleted items there until I am blue in the face to no avail.
I made a clean install of lion as i had a little bit of a problems after few years i was uning my iMac.. All of the issues were gone but know i got a new problem with the trash ..
Every time i delete something (i.e: a folder that i dont need any more) i requires a password.. Then instead of that folder to appear in the Trash (as it should be), it is automatically gone and do not appear in the trash! what is this but i am suspicious that is the password protection thing that is responsible for that!
I only just downloaded Mavericks this past week. I don't like how we have to use the "shift" or "command" key to delete multiple emails. I preferred and found it simpler to just use my mouse and click and highlight. Can this might revert back ?
I purchased a GoFlex Desk for Mac with the FW800 adapter. No issues with stability or performance. The only thing that is weird is related to deletion of files:
1) When I set a program to auto-clean files (for example, deleting source rar files after unpacking) it doesn't work
2) Whenever I try to delete a file, I get a warning that "This cannot be undone", and it's doing a permanent delete rather than moving it to trash.I've verified that I'm not using any Seagate drivers, and the drive shows up as the "Orange" generic external drive.
For the life of me, I cannot seem to get that download icon back in my dock (the one that stacks all the latest downloads) and it seems every time I download something new it goes in the trash. I've tried to drag the download folder back into the dock but that doesn't seem to work.
I have two folders in my trash which I cannot empty. No matter how many times I try these folders will not go away. I have open the "info" link and marked them read and write without success.
How do you delete individual items from Trash without emptying entire Trash? If I highlight one item in Trash, the only option is the Empty button. I'm afraid it will empty the whole thing. I don't want to do that.
If I download an app or anything as a matter of fact, I can't delete it. The Trash refuses to empty but I hear the sound it plays when it used to empty normally. This problem occurred when I wanted to set a wireless printer, the printer required downloading an app which I downloaded; and later found useless. I decided to delete it, I moved the app to the Trash and tried to empty it. Finder asked if I want to empty it, I pressed OK, the Trash played the sound but didn't empty. I looked up solutions and one suggested using Terminal; I used Terminal, it worked and emptied the Trash but now if I try to empty anything from Downloads, I can't. The Trash refuses to empty and the whole fiasco begins again.
I'm running iTunes 10.6.1 and Configurator 1.0.1. I just purchased 32 copies of an app for one of our school iPad carts. The last time I did this I made the purchase, ran iTunes, input the first app code, and downloaded the app.
Now when I input the code for a new app, it begins to download 32 copies of the the last app I bought, which was iMovie. I can cancel all of the downloads, but when I go in to add a another new app, it then starts to download 64 apps: 32 copies of iMovie and 32 copies of the app I just installed.
On my MacBook, when I delete a file in the Downloads folder, it says that it will go immediately and for some reason it doesn't go to Trash. On my iMac, the behaviour is as I expect, it goes to Trash and I can undo it. Is there a way to change it on the MacBook so it goes to Trash? I'm using 10.6.3.
I have 4 computers linked to my Apple ID and numerous IPhones and IPods. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when I purchase a song, and successfully download it, using my computer. The only way to get it to the other computers is by transferring it via my IPhone or IPods. It seems as if I've downloaded something once from Apple, then they don't let me download it again onto a registered machine using the same Apple ID. Therefore, I transfer music/app content using my devices. Isn't this what everyone does?
Now, Mac app store is coming! How the heck am I going to download content onto one computer and then transfer it to another computer (Apple says the 1 time purchase will be good for all your computers). Do you think Apple will allow multiple downloads of the same software to any computer associated with you Apple ID? If this is the case: Why not allow us to do the same thing with our ITunes purchases? Anyone care to chime in and letting me know if I'm off base, or have any suggestions, etc.?
Time machine keeps sending old boot.efi files to my trash, and am unable to delete them, maybe because they are locked? should I unlock them and if so, how? should I delete them and if so, how?
