I have a security camera system at work & i need to pull video from it and view it on my MBP. The file it gives me when I output from the machine is an .arv, (which I have never heard of) but I cannot seem to find software (preferably freeware?) to read it. The system gives me a viewer ("DVR Viewer"), but it is an .exe, so it won't run on my system.
View 1 RepliesEarlier tonight I opened iCal, only to find that none of my calendars were there. it was completely empty. However, when I changed the view from "Week" to "Month" all of my events were listed (in the proper color) on the appropriate day, but I still had no list of calendars on the left. Subsequent changes between "Day" "Week" and "Month" view continued to display the events properly, but nothing showed up in the calendar menu on the left.
I repaired permissions same thing happened.I trashed com.apple.ical pref (forgot the exact filename)�same behavior. I use .mac to sync between computers, and I use Missing Sync to sync to a Palm T|X.
I get an error when i tried to open the .JPG image file. This file was actually recovered from my pendrive. As it was in .SCR i had to use the image recovery software and got it done in .JPG.The file's preview is avaialbe only on the app i used to recover. After i stored the image file on desktop and tried to open it i get an error "It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."

I've got an issue where I have a bunch of .zip.part files in my downloads stack, which I cannot remove (I do not know how to remove a file directly from the stack, perhaps there's a way?) because when I open the downloads folder in finder, they aren't there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe file extension is exactly that, .igs. I can't get it to open using anything, nor can I find very much information on what programs even deal with it. I see alot of stuff about .iges.
These files were created about 6 years ago. I've tried TurboCad demo, eDrawings demo, TouchCad demo. Nothing works. All say unsupported file.
I have an older MBP (2.2Ghz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD) and am having problems with PDF files. Well, I guess it would be better described as annoyances with PDF files. I use Adobe Reader and the lag when scrolling is unbearable. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Can anyone suggest alternate programs that may remedy my problem.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI have iTunes 9.0.2 and when I first upgraded to 9 I was able to view my Homescreen from the Applications tab and rearrange my apps. Lately all I've been seeing in the Applications tab is a list of my apps with check/uncheck marks next to them. The Homescreen view that should be right next to that is simply not there. Any ideas on what to do (besides reinstalling iTunes)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout 3 weeks ago, I went out of town for a week then came back. When I started up my PPC G5 iMac, I went to open Safari....but it disappeared. The icon was still in the dock, but when I clicked on it, a translucent "?" showed up over it. I tried a Spotlight search for it, and nothing came up. Same thing happened with Preview. I thought my Aunt who was staying over didn't know how to use the Mac and might have accidentally deleted them, so I used Pacifist to reinstall Safari and Preview from the Leopard disc. No big deal.
Then today, I fire up Word, but same thing! Word disappeared! Same with Excel. No matter, reinstalled from the disc. After a couple of hours, I'm back again and this time I want to use Roxio Toast....gone. And this time, I don't have any install disc (lost it during moving). And I know my Aunt can't be responsible for Toast or Word disappearing, since she left yesterday afternoon; mom was using Word on my computer and I used Toast no more than 5 days ago.
So anyone have any clue what the heck is going on with my applications literally deleting themselves?
My doc disappears every few minutes than reappears suddenly. I have no idea why this is happening. When the doc disappears from the bottom of my desktop I cannot downsize anything until it reappears. Very frustrating! I tried to find something in system preferences but couldn�t. Has anyone else out there had this happen? I�m running 10.2.4.

View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I tried opening my keynotes presentation file to make amendments to it and when I double clicked on it, the program loading bar only loaded up a third of the way and then hanged. I then tried to save it to a flash drive and use it on a different computer, but when I tried to copy it over to the flash drive it gave me this error: "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "garment styles" could not be read or written error code - 36".
I have tried changing the file extension to a zip, then unzipping it and then renaming it but that did not work.(It wouldn't let me unzip it). I have also looked at the index file name to see if that was the problem, but that is as it should be.
I have also tried uploading it to a website and emailing it and it will not let me.
Is there anyway I can recover this file as I have been working on it for over a month and it is due next week, or will I need to start again?
I'm running Parallels with a Ubuntu VM to test my new NAS computer, but I can't seem to view the Ubuntu services with other computers on my network. Is there a setting or something that I can change that enables Parallels to share services across the network? Right now I'm limited to seeing services from Ubuntu with OS X on my MacBook running the VM.

Now hit FFW or REV. What appears in the track info box? Nothing, right? iTunes doesn't show you what song it has shuffled to. It only works if you are playing, not in pause.
Surely this is wrong? Sometimes you want to select song before playing it, right? This works fine on my Ipod. Everyone else have this problem?
A friend recently downloaded 500 messages from her ISP to Mac Mail (4.4) The inbox says she has 500 messages but she can only see around 150 / 200. How can she see that complete list ? I'm trying to convince her to remove those messages off her ISP's server.
I have been working on a project in iMovie for a few days, and it has been working perfectly. Today, I opened up my project and I could not play the project (the red line would move, but no picture would show up in the upper right hand corner box) and ALL of the options in the "share" tab were gray and unable to click them. Many options in the "edit" and "file" tabs were unable to be clicked as well.
Another project i completed months ago is working perfectly. The clips in the events play/show up on the window in the upper right hand corner
I listen to and watch a lot of podcasts. Quite often, after I am done listening to a Audio Podcast I will watch a video podcast. Some times it gets stuck and won't play the video but plays audio fine. Anyone else have this problem?

When I attempt to open it i get the "quicktime does not support this file" message however when i right click the avi file icon and select get info, the video playback works in the preview section... I'm trying to convert the file to an .mov file that is 23.976 fps and plays at 23.976 fps, but every time I try the result looks choppy. Does anyone know how I can convert a strange file like this to a proper, 23.976 fps file, preferably an .mov?

After downloading apps, I delete the installation files to preserve memory. After putting my apps on a USB drive, will they work on my reloaded MAC without the installation? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a question regarding Microsoft power point. I have microsoft powerpoint 2007 on my PC, but sadly don't have the microsoft 2008 or iworks on my mac. I have a report I have to present so I have to do it on my PC. Problem is that they have MACs that have microsoft office 2008. Question is if i save a file on the MS PP 2007 for PC would it work on MS PP 2008 on a mac? Or would I have to save it as a 97-03 PP file that would be an extension of .ppt. I believe the extension for the 2007 PP is .pptx.

results in a picture (picture2.jpg) that is the size of the sum of picture.jpg and hidden.rtf.zip. I presume this means that I am successfully putting hidden into the picture.I can open picture2.jpg, but I can't figure out a way to access the hidden zip.
I am having huge issues getting a Zip File from my Shared Hosting with 1 and 1.com.
The zip file on their server is 557 MB. and i try to get the file, but keeps stalling when downloading
and then it stops at 555 MB. Then i try to Unzip the File and it looks somewhat corrupted !
I tried a couple different UnZip Apps, and The Unarchiver seemed to work better than the default Mac Unzipper......
What can be the issue here and What is the most rugged UnZipper for Mac ?
I am not able to print my .pdf file. Firstly, I had the 8.1 ...adobe reader version. However when I tried to sent pdf file to print, adobe reader would quit immediately. Secondly, I deleted the old one and reinstalled adobe reader 9.1.3 (my mac has mac os 10.5.8) and still I am not able to print the .pdf file but this time adobe reader doesn't quit, I keep getting the message that the document could not be printed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have some .numbers files that I need a friend to look at on her pc with Excel 2003 SP3, but it's not working for her. I have changed the extension to .xls but it's no good, as when she tries to open them they are all gobbledegook.
Here's a snapshot of the various files I have, but notice how the icons for each is different, or rather that there are two distinct designs? Some of them DO open in Excel, but some do not.
I haven't been able to get Aperture 3 to work with any GPS log file. And I mean anything. Not CSV, KMZ, NMEA or GPX files. Either they are not read at all, or they are read halfway and crash the program. I'm using a Columbus V-900 which produces weird CSV files, but seem to export fine using TimeAlbum to basically any format I want. Maybe a software update soon to make this feature work better?

Out of the blue iTunes suddenly decided it was going to redownload all my apps completely unnecessarily as they're all already installed on the computer and the iPhone. It wouldn't be an issue if I just had one or two, but I literally have 100s of apps of varying sizes, including a few that are upwards of 100mb. I don't want it to continually hog my bandwidth redownloading everytime I open iTunes. At the minute I'm clicking "pause all" everytime I open it. my main priority is stopping it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIve noticed that a couple of websites that have only .wmv available to download movies. I am running a Mac G4 with OS Tiger and Opera/Safari/Firefox for the net. I can easily play wmv's with my QTpro and or VLC.
The movies that I typically DL are usually 300 to 400 megs. They completely DL on my browser (Opera, Safari, or Firefox) after about 10 minutes or so. However once I DL the .wmv files onto my harddrive , they show up at only about 3 or 4 kb!!?? So thats about a total of like .2 seconds of play back!!?? Therefore one second of total playback.I believe this is not an Apple vs Windows issue, but something else. Any ideas?
