Numbers 09 has started crashing when I try and open the "Event Planner" template.I've tried reinstalling and repairing permissions - any other ideas?When it crashes, the report says "Numbers quit unexpectedly when using the SFWordProcessing Plugin".I really need that Event Planner template asap - what can I do...??

I have some .numbers files that I need a friend to look at on her pc with Excel 2003 SP3, but it's not working for her. I have changed the extension to .xls but it's no good, as when she tries to open them they are all gobbledegook.
Here's a snapshot of the various files I have, but notice how the icons for each is different, or rather that there are two distinct designs? Some of them DO open in Excel, but some do not.
Is there a way to do this ? When I try to open any file that is password protected, I get an error that the file 'in an incompatible format' (if memory serves, I'm away from my Mac right now). I can open it fine in NeoOffice, but it never works in Number '08. I'd consider going to iWork '09 if the problem has been addressed there.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am really confused as to why about a week or so ago, my email on my MBP crashes several times a day. It appears that it happens when I am doing something within email. Maybe clicking on an email to read, add an attachment, etc. Its not so obvious that its the same thing. The wheel starts to spin and then I get the crash message.

I have had my Macbook Air for a little more than 2 years. It has always worked pretty well. However, recently I went on vacation for 1 week without my laptop. When I returned home and went to turn on my computer, I noticed that it had become extremely slow. Firstly, turning on my computer has become an abnormally long process. It used to take about 2-3 minutes to turn on. Now, it takes a solid 10 minutes. Not only this, but once my computer has finally turned in, it usually takes another 10 minutes before I can open an internet browser. When I click on the browser (I used Google Chrome) no window will pop up, and after a few more clicks, my screen will freeze completely. Sometimes I will get the rainbow wheel and sometimes the screen just completely freezes without it. Sometimes I will try closing the lid of my computer and then reopening it, but when I do this, the screen stays black for a long period of time even after I have reopened it, almost as if the computer is off. After an excessive amount of key smashing and an abnormally large amount of time, the screen will finally stop being in sleep mode and show my desktop. Even then, my computer will still barely work. Once I finally get a window open and start using the internet, google chrome will end up crashing within at least 20 minutes. The entire screen will freeze, I won't be able to scroll down or exit out of the window, and I then usually have to repeat the painful process that I described above when I attempt to open my browser.
It has been over a week since I returned from vacation, and I deal with these issues every time. My computer has always been fine in the past, why is this suddenly happening? I have tried to remove some of my applications my going into Finder and highlighting the application and clicking Move to Trash, and then emptying the trash. This hasn't helped at all. Do you think that it would help to delete some of my files and data (pictures, documents, screenshots, downloads, ect) or is this irrelevant?

It Keeps Crashing upon opening
This problem involves my wife's Intel i7 iMac11,1 with a 27" screen. She started having problems with her email app (Entourage). I was unable to fix it. I finally recommended that we restore a previous incarnation of the MacOS 10.6.8 by restoring from Time Machine to the main hard drive.After Restore had finished, I tried to open several apps without success. I then used Disk Warrior 4.3 to update the iMac by booting the DVD on my Mac Pro and putting the iMac in Target Disk Mode since the iMac can't boot DW 4.3, but 4.3 can be used via Firewire to create a revised directory.
The non-Apple apps seemed to run fine after that, but I couldn't get some Apple apps to open. They would suddenly quit while they were in the process of opening. I then used the Apple Application Install DVD that came with the iMac to install the Apple Apps with the hope that the Apple Apps would open correctly and then I could update them from Apple Downloads or Software Update. When the install disk finished installing Apple Apps, I tried to open Safari to go the Apple Downloads, but Safari still quit suddenly during my attempt to open it. In desperation, I opened Firefox 6.0.1 and went to Apple Downloads.
There, I downloaded Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v 1.1 followed by a security update that ended with the number 1. After restart, I found that Font Book and DVD Player and iDVD and Garage Band and Quick Time Player 10.0 and iCal and Image Capture and iMovie and Calculator and Automator and Address Book and the Mail app and Preview and System Preferences and Text Edit and Grab app and Terminal opened without quitting, but Safari and Dictionary and iPhoto and Dashboard and App Store and iTunes still quit suddenly when I tried to open them. I didn't try the remaining Apple apps. Testing some non-Apple apps, VMware Fusion and Google Earth and MacScan all opened without quitting.
There are four events that may shed additional light.The backup power source went flaky a couple of days ago and it went on and off battery power rapidly until I unplugged it. Second, a power strip for my wife's iMac has since been plugged directly into the house current with no backup battery. Third, yesterday, the room became quite warm and the back side of the iMac became very warm or hot, but not bad enough to burn skin. Fourth, my wife insists on storing many of her files on the desktop.The desktop is virtually full of icons. I took a bunch of folders that she had on the desktop and put them in a folder in Documents, but there a quite a few folders still on the desktop and I estimate they will more than fill the screen if the files in them were all moved out of the folders and onto desktop.
It's handy and she can work faster than looking for them in Documents. Is it possible that power bumps from the house current or from the flaky backup battery could have damaged hardware or could such events damage software that is not replaced by the Restore from Time Machine? Could overheating damage hardware or software that is not replaced by Restore or the 10.6.8 Combo Update? Could too many files and folders cause the problems I'm having?She's operated this way for a year without problems, but I think the number of files had gradually increased during that time.I'm posting this message using Firefox 6.0.1.
I have iTunes 8.2b7(10) and it keeps crashing about 15 sec after opening. I have no idea what to do about this any luck? I tried repairing the permissions but no luck.

I have an older 15" powerbook Titanium. About five years old now. Been working pretty well all five years, save for an external hinge I had to replace. Last night, the computer started buzzing from the insides, a buzzing reminiscent of a distant chainsaw. The program i was working in (firefox) just went to the pinwheel of doom and never recovered. I moved to the finder, which did the same. I forced booted. Same noise. Same problems. I can use programs for a few minutes, but then they pinwheel of doom and the computer freezes out.

Seems like it happens more often when there are images embedded in the e-mail, like when someone has one in their signature, but I honestly can't tell what the rhyme or reason is for it.

I'm using an iMac(seen in sig.) and I had installed Photoshop, and while of course a little slow due to Rosetta it worked. Then maybe a week ago, it just seemed to stop opening up and crashing immediately. I'm running OSX 10.4.8, everything is properly updated and I've reinstalled photoshop a few times to no avial. The problem didn't seem to occur after any change, I might have just not noticed it though.

The Adobe crash report indicated that it's an Apple bug on file save/open, and when I did some research on the internet it indicated that (even from back i 2009) this is known bug.

Then, with appcleaner, i uinstalled QuickTime, but the problem continued. So i deleted the QTKit.framework, the console pointed it by the center of the error, so i did it. I also deleted the plists or something like that, reseted the pram and nothing, repaired permissions, verified disks and nothing!! I've been ripping my hair out trying to find the answer to this.
In Numbers for Mac, I need to fill a column automatically with a series of integers (1 - 50) and then the next column with a function that interacts with the first column.
For example:
Column A - 1 - 5
Column B - (value in Column A * 5)
I can't figure out how to do it in Numbers When I try to fill column a with 1 - 50 all it does is fill all 1's and I cant find an option how to make that change so it automatically numbers when I highlight them.
The best I can describe is how in Excel you can type 1 in the first cell, then highlight a bunch of cells and the little box appears that lets you click "Fill Series"
See above title. i get that there's the "degree(cell)" function, but there has to be an easier way to change the settings so you can just input in degrees rather than radians.
like how calculators have a degrees and radians mode, i find it so hard to believe that there isn't one in numbers. if there really isn't, this is an incredibly flawed program.

I'm running a OS X 10.9.5 and just purchase Motion 5.1.2 at the APP Store and I cannot save any template in Motion 5. Every time I tried, I can hear a sound like "tunk" and I see the progressive bar very, very quickly. Doesn't seem to be normal. The project is on the respective Motion Templates file but when I open FCPX and look for the project I saved, I can see it as a thumbnail in the respective media browser but it is not available. I tried with different media and even without any media (just text) and the result is the same.
