View 1 RepliesIt seems that the contacts app has suddenly become incapable of accessing my contacts in the cloud. Its fine on icloud.com, its fine on my phone, and its fine on my ipads. However, I'm getting an error message right now which I think must be to do with an update to Little Snitch which I did almost immediately before, and which necessitated a reboot. Since the reboot, I am seeing the following
Of course, this also means Messages doesnt work. LS is not blocking any icloud things, and calendars and mail are still working with no issues.
Info:
OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
Originally, notifications from Messages.app would show the contact name sending the message. I'm not sure what caused it to stop, but now all notifications show up as the phone number of the contact. In the actual app, the names look fine. Is there some way to get contact names to show up again?

View 2 Replies View RelatedTrying to sync my master MP3 collection (on a G4 running OSX 10.4.9) with iTunes on my new laptop (running Vista with iTunes 7.6.2.9 on an NTFS formatted HDD).
Copied the music files onto an external HDD, no problems. File names and folder structure preserved as expected.
However, when importing the music files into iTunes on the laptop, every file name longer than 35 characters is truncated to 35 characters. For instance, Rihanna - Umbrella (Jody den Broeder Destruction radio edit) becomes, in the file name, 08 Umbrella (Jody den Broeder Destru.mp3.
iTunes has only started doing this this morning. Exactly the same installation yesterday gave me no problems at all.
Numbers 09 has started crashing when I try and open the "Event Planner" template.I've tried reinstalling and repairing permissions - any other ideas? When it crashes, the report says "Numbers quit unexpectedly when using the SFWordProcessing Plugin".I really need that Event Planner template asap - what can I do...??

My computer's hard drive crashed, but after I had it replaced it it now seems to be working weird. My IMessage is working, but it is not syncing my contacts with the numbers. I do not understand what is wrong with it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAddress Book has suddenly stopped finding contacts!
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst:I'm using a late 2008 MacBookPro 17" with 4GB RAM and a 320GB HD.MacOSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Address Book 5.0.3 (883)Mail Version 4.5 (1084)
Yesterday evening I found that Address Book was empty - no contacts displayed and Mail did not recognize the group name when I entered it in the To field.
Actions I've tried but did not resolve the issue:Restoring Address Book from a Time Machine backup that was previous to when the problem occurred.Deleting the Address Book app~/Library Address Book Plug-Ins~/Library/Application Support/Addressbook and~/Library/Application Support/Yahoo! Sync
And then restoring these same items from a Time Machine backup that was previous to when the problem occurred.Deleting the Address Book App and then reinstalling from my Snow Leopard Install DVD.
When I restored AB from Time Machine all my entries showed in Time Machine (even the backups made *after* the problem began) all vCards are there and seemingly are restored. But, when I make any effort to use a card or change to a different card, AB quits and it's back to an apparently empty address book.

How are most people tagging? Just first names? First and last names? I'm going to start the process tonight and I was wondering the reasonings behind people's decision.

In Numbers for Mac, I need to fill a column automatically with a series of integers (1 - 50) and then the next column with a function that interacts with the first column.
For example:
Column A - 1 - 5
Column B - (value in Column A * 5)
I can't figure out how to do it in Numbers When I try to fill column a with 1 - 50 all it does is fill all 1's and I cant find an option how to make that change so it automatically numbers when I highlight them.
The best I can describe is how in Excel you can type 1 in the first cell, then highlight a bunch of cells and the little box appears that lets you click "Fill Series"
See above title. i get that there's the "degree(cell)" function, but there has to be an easier way to change the settings so you can just input in degrees rather than radians.
like how calculators have a degrees and radians mode, i find it so hard to believe that there isn't one in numbers. if there really isn't, this is an incredibly flawed program.
So I'm trying to see if a lot of people use the dock hiding or Magnification feature or not! If so, why do you guys use it? Also what model of the mac do you guys use? [to see if a correlation exists between screen size and hiding, Magnification is just for aesthetics].
View 24 Replies View RelatedI've looked thoughly to find the answer online, system preferences and here with no luck. I recently updated my software to Mac OS X 10.7.4. Now the menu bar is automatically hiding, but reapearing when I mouse over and the screen in all windows are too wide and long. When I click the 'green' icon for resizing the window, it sizes it too wide and long. I am not in full screen and do not have enlarge on (COMMAND +) and i've check the display settings. Maybe Mac added this as a feature with the update thinking people will like it but I don't like it at all, my typing in an email is not visable on the right. Can someone please tell me how to turn this feature off? Also the resolution/clarity of my screen is not as good since the update.

Dock hiding just doesn't work any more. Specifically, the dock WILL hide, but it won't return when I need it to. You can move the cursor to the bottom of the screen (where my dock presently is), and nothing happens. This has happened before, but now it happens consistently. It's awfully frustrating. A couple of times today, hiding wouldn't turn on, either (that is, the dock just wouldn't hide at all), but that's sortof a moot point, since if it HAD hidden, it wouldn't have reappeared.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Skype and noticed that it starts up when I log into my Mac. Fair enough: for the time being I don't want this, so I entered the Accounts control panel, then Login items where I ticked the "Hide" box next to where Skype was listed. But Skype still starts up when I log into/power up my Mac. What gives? I thought "hide" meant the same thing as "disable" during login, but apparently not. I know I can remove Skype from the Login items list, but since I sometimes want it to automatically start when I power up my Mac that would be a bit cumbersome.

when using coverflow to view a folder you can hide the file list that is underneath it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the "hide" box checked under my login items, but when I log in, the iTunes window will appear momentarily, then disappear, then reappear 1 second later. And once it reappears, it stays there. I have to manually hide it, which is no big deal, but defeats the purpose of the "hide" checkbox. I've added it/removed it and logged out/restarted several times, but it doesn't work. I'm running iTunes 9.0.1/ OS X 10.5.8.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently, my laptop was stolen and I just received my new one today. On my old one, I had an program installed, I think it was in the preferences actually, that made it so when I "hide" an application, the corresponding application icon in the Dock would dim; its opacity would lower. This way, you knew that application was currently hiding. I can't remember the name of the program that I used to get this desired effect. Anyone else know of the program I am talking about or of another program that can achieve the same effect?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm the computer teacher at a school and I'm trying to lock down the computers somewhat so that the kids don't mess with settings. When they inevitably do, I waste time restoring them to normal so that other kids aren't confused.
I've used software like TinkerTool and Deeper to prevent modifications to the dock icons. The main accounts used by the students are parental controlled so that they can't access System Preferences. I turned Dock Hiding off in there. However, they can still click on the option area (the lines) in the dock and turn it back on there. I know it doesn't seem like too big a deal, but when the older kids do this and a 1st grader sits down, they get confused and have to ask for help. If a dozen ask for help, it wastes time in class.
So is there a way to disable the ability to have that option available? I'd actually like to get rid of of the Hide, Magnification, and Position options in that little menu.
This might seem really counterintuitive, but I don't want minimized windows to show up in my dock - being able to grab them with expos is enough. Is there any way to do this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just switched to my first Mac. A MacBook Pro 13" base model. Right now I have the dock on the bottom of the screen and set to hide unless I mouse around the bottom of the screen. I like this so that I can have Firefox maximized to take up the whole screen. However, I would like to show the dock on the desktop when I don't have any windows maximized. Is there a way to set the dock to automatically hide when windows are maximized on the screen and then have the dock automatically show when there are no windows open or maximized?

I'm not exactly sure of where to post this... I'm having a problem with my computer (Address Book, I believe) syncing w/ Google contacts. I'm getting the following error messages:
The first image is the original error that comes up. If I click More Info, it brings me to a list of contacts. The "Before" info contains the correct fields for their email addresses (e.g., school, work, etc). However, Google wants to get rid of these fields.
Is there any way I can get Google to accept this fields? Also, can I have Google revert to my Mac's info instead of the other way around (my mac using Google's changes)
