OS X :: Start Up And Shut Down Times For Snow Leopard?

Aug 28, 2009

I have a new 09' 20" iMac Core Duo 2.66 with Snow Leopard.

Shut Down: = 7 Seconds. Tried 4 times, same result.

Start Up: 42-44 seconds to Login Screen

Login To Desktop fully loaded: = 6 Seconds

I am not impressed by the Start up or Login. I believe I clocked Leopard at the exact same speeds.

Overall I am not noticing much difference in anything.

OS X :: Leopard: Slow Boot And Shut Down Times?

Oct 31, 2007

Well by all means the Leopard boot and shut down times are not SLOW, but I found that Tiger was so so so much faster at this. Is it just me or do you guys have this too?

MacBook Pro :: Snow Leopard Boot Times?

Aug 28, 2009

I was planning to get Snowey and a SSD at the same time, but the latter had to wait. So far, Im seeing at least a ten seconds improvement in boot time with Snow Leopard:

17" Macbook pro unibody 2.93 Ghz, 4 GB ram 7200rpm HD

before SL: boot up from 39 to 55 seconds

after SL: boot up time from 30 to 39 seconds

Ok, so there is no interest in this topic.

For me boot time is a rather important criterium.

And I think the fact that SL reduce this with almost 10 seconds is AMAZING.

OS X :: Snow Leopard - Very Poor Battery Times?

Sep 2, 2009

Macbook pro, 2.5 ghz , 4 gb ram (bought in June)

After the install of snow leopard, and a full charge. My battery at 96% showed only 2:45 hours, over the past 30 minutes with little no usage n the laptop (other than letting it sit at the office and periodically checking battery) I am seeing 81% charge and 2:05 on the charge.

The screen is dimmed, display sleep is set to 5 mins, computer sleep to 15....

Anyone else seeing this?

Health on my battery shows 97%, 67 cycles.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Boot Times Slower?

Sep 4, 2009

In Leopard I had times where I could boot in almost 15 seconds, some times at 21 seconds if it was running slow and for the most part it was 17 seconds. All these times btw are recorded at time of power button press to desktop screen.

In Snow Leopard the times have almost doubled.... Fast boot in Snow Leopard is around 20-30 seconds for me now and a slow boot (which just happened) took a little over 40 seconds.

Anyone else experiencing this? Besides the boot times SL feels a lot faster in system responsiveness than Leopard.

OS X :: Snow Leopard In 64-bit - Longer Boot Times?

Doe anyone else think that, when booting into 64-bit mode, your boot times are longer? I swear mine are 2-3 seconds longer. Performance seems just a tad bit better, so I'll stick with 64-bit mode, but I wanna see what other people think.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Not Shut Down Or Restart

Oct 13, 2009

I'm running a 2007 silver Imac and just upgraded to SL. Aside from all my apple aps (ie. logic pro studio 8) running slower than molasses rolling up a hill. My mighty mouse (wired) jumping to the corner of the screen all the time and WiFi won't stay connected to my router for more than a few hours at a time (when this happens it also likes to ask me for the password it already knows and rejects it when i reenter it?

And my computer won't shut down or restart? I read in another thread about this happening with multiple accounts and a log out being needed but I don't have other accounts. So I have nothing to log out from? I'm super disappointed and am tempted to switch to windows 7, but I've already invested a small fortune into my apple and apple exclusive software like the looser that I am. And you'll be saving a perfectly good computer from being thrown out the window.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: MacBook Pro Shut Itself Down

Mar 13, 2012

My MBP just freaked out on me a little. I'd let the battery get pretty low, and had left the machine alone for about 15m. After plugging in, I couldn't bring it back up, and assumed I'd hit the hybernate point with the battery drain, so I hit the power button. Instead of coming back up from hybernate, it rebooted. Apparently it had arbitrarily shut itself down instead of going into hybernate. Here's where it gets really weird though: When it came back up, a bunch of stuff was ganked. Personal stuff like the finder windows I had open and my dock were fine. But my system clock reset to 01/01/2008, AirPort had an exclaimation point in the menubar icon and didn't default to my network or know my password. And upon login, I got three dialog boxes asking connect permission for three processes I'd never heard of. Unfortunately, I don't know the names of the processes because I F9'd to get a good look at all the dialog boxes at once (they were stacked), and when I hit F9 again, Exposé didn't close, so I tried ESC...which closed one of the dialog boxes! Hit F9 again, didn't work. Hit ESC, and another dialog box closed. Ditto for the 3rd one, and after they were gone, F9 finally worked for closing Exposé. But at that point, I'd lost all 3 dialog boxes. So with ESC being the likely equivelent of answering NO to the allow each of those dialog boxes was asking me about, I've now denied connecting persmission to three processes

MacBook :: Working With Some Of The Files On It And It Shut Down My Computer A Couple Times?

Dec 17, 2010

I am having a problem with my external hard drive. I was using it the other day working with some of the files on it and it shut down my computer a couple times. The second time it did this, after the computer shut down, I would turn it on and then it would go right back off until I removed the hard drive and turned it on and it was fine. Now my computer won't recognize the hard drive at all when i plug it in. The light on the hard drive will come on but it will not show up on my computer.

The hard drive is a WD 1TB Passport and it still works fine with every other computer I plug it into, PCs and macs both.I have a late 2008 13" Aluminum Macbook

OS X :: Applications Shut Down Randomly With Snow Leopard

Sep 15, 2009

I installed Snow Leopard about a week ago on my MacBook Pro (purchased in early 2006). Since then I randomly get a blue screen and all the open applications shut down. I then have to re-open them. I can't see a pattern but I mostly use Microsoft Office for Mac and it occurs when I am in the middle of a word or excel document. I have found no reference online to this sort of problem. I have not installed any other new software or hardware during this time.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: When Shut Down Mac - It Said 224 People Connected

Jun 8, 2012

When I shut down my Mac today, it said 224 people were connected to it. I have file and printer sharing on, but my home router is secured with a password, so I don't know how that's possible. Even if my router was open, I don't have 224 people living close enough that they could all be on my home network. Was that a weird glitch, or is it something I should be concerned about? I know there have been some reports of malware popping up on Macs, so I'm wondering if my computer could be infected.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Had To "force Quit" Microsoft Word Several Times?

Apr 10, 2012

I have a 2008 13" Macbook. Within the past few days, I've had to "force quit" Microsoft Word several times. I've never had to do this before. All my software is up to date. I moved the Firefox app from my Applications to the trash. Does this uninstall it? My hope is that it would and I could just reinstall it. I have yet to download it again. I have also had to Force Quit Microsoft Word several times. This is my main concern. I am entirely reliant on my laptop for income, as I am a journalist. Do I NEED to get a new Macbook?

Mac Pro :: Power Light Indicator Blinks 3 Times At Start Up?

Jan 16, 2009

I recently received a Power Mac G5 from work. They told me I could have it, but reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling the OS was on me. So, I took it home, and plugged it in to turn it on, and the white light on the front blinks 3 times and then stays steady... and then blinks 3 times again... and so on and so on.

The RAM that came with it was bad, so I put in 2, 1 GB PC3200 sticks in it. Isn't it a RAM problem?

OS X :: Mac Not Start Up After Snow Leopard Installation

Feb 17, 2010

I've installed Snow Leopard but now my mac won't start up. (It's a early 2008 mac pro so it should be able to handle it). All that happens is it loads past the apple logo, the rainbow wheel pops up, the background loads and the search icon (magnifying glass) appears but nothing else at all beyond that. It just waits for ages (a few times that note has appeared that say's I need to restart the computer).

I've tried.
1) Re installing it
2) Reinstalling it on a different partition (that had windows on before) but nothing seems to work.
I really need to keep all my data so I want to be careful.

PowerPC :: 190cs - Made Start Up Sound A Few Times But Never Starts Up

Jul 16, 2008

I got a Powerbook 190 from my grandfather. He didn't give me the cord to plug it in with. He gave me the cord that has the big box, that connects to the computer. It was missing the cord that goes from the box to the wall. I read that it said to ONLY use an apple cord.My step dad said "that's not how electricity works." and gave me a regular, random computer cord. I was unsure, but plugged him in anyway.

He worked perfectly for one night. No problem at all. Booted up right away. I played on him for a few hours. It was time to go to bed.

He hasn't woken up since. He's made the start up sound a few times, but never starts up. I've pushed the reset button on the back a thousand times. At least what I THINK is the reset button. They just say under the video out port, but I don't know what that looks like. What I'm pressing is a small, very flat, wide (but still very small) rectangle of a button. Nothing. I've held it down for 40 seconds, 4 or 5 times. I've taken the battery out, and then held the reset button. Nothing. I've tried everything I know to do, for about a month now.

I left him alone for a few weeks. I plugged him in today, and it made the start up sound, and then nothing.

Can I save him? How? Should I try an apple-specific computer cord? Do I need a new battery? If I did, wouldn't it start up with the battery out, but still plugged into the wall? Fried motherboard?

I even found a freaking airport card that'll work with it, and an external floppy disk for my new mac, so I can transfer files from one to the other. I was so excited about him. And my dreams were crushed.

OS X :: Installing Snow Leopard - Mac Cannot Start Up From This Disk

Jul 1, 2009

Whenever I boot up the SL install disk (either plugged in via USB drive or remote disc from my iMac), I select English as my language, "Continue" on the welcome screen, and when I get to the portion where I have to choose a disk to install onto, my MBA's hard drive has a yellow triangle on it and a caption underneath that says "Mac OS X Cannot Start Up From This Disk".

I've used Disk Utility to Verify and Repair, but still get the same result.

My MacBook Air is a 2nd generation machine, 120G hard drive (45G free), and MS Office 2008 installed. Other than that (and all my music and files), it's exactly as it came from Apple when I ordered it.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Harddrive Icon On Start Won't Go Away

Mar 12, 2012

This morning when I turned on my Imac, it presented me with the Mac HD icon, I had to select this to continue with the boot.

I've checked the startup options and the correct (and only) drive is selected, re selected it a few times just in case but this didnt have any effect.

Checked that none of my keyboard keys are sticking by unpluging it during the boot so the keyboard couldn't interfere, still the same.

I've tried a pram reset but don't seem to have any joy getting this to work. I hold the correct sequence of keys down just after the chimes ( cmd, option p and r) but that doesn't seem to get me the 2nd chime. Have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Is this a sign my HDD is going? I use the system for a lot of video editing and photo editing, could this amout of usuage cause any problems
