OS X :: Speculation - "Call - Send SMS" In Snow Leopard
Aug 29, 2009
When I was looking for Text substitution in the keyboard preferences, I ran into something else. In the Keyboard Shortcut-menu they've added a service for sending SMS and calling. This made me think about the 3G chipped-tablet that I've read about earlier. Might they have anything to do with each other? It's not there in Leopard. I found it in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts >Services.

I really enjoyed the Plastic Stripes, the Brushed Metal and the current Gray looks of Aqua over the years, words cannot describe the friendship I've shared with these interface themes, actually that pretty much sums it up. So I was hoping for a NEW UI as a big surprise from Apple come Snow Leopard release. I guess it's just wishful thinking but I'd die for a Black Purple and Glass interface (think Quicktime X early icon) or at least options to choose different interfaces. I'd have the Plastic stripes on one Mac and the Metal on another and Black on another. It would really be a dream come true. So has anyone spotted any evidence of a new UI other than the "marble" speculation?

Just installed Snow two days ago. Runs great, so far. As of today, when I try to send mail from Mac Mail, something strange happens every so often.
I get a message saying it can't send the message because the SMTP options have not been set. They are in fact set, and Mail has been functioning normally until installing Snow.
Anyone having this problem, and how did you fix? All my server settings are in place so I'm not sure what else to change.

I'm suddenly unable to send an email. For no apparent reason, I now get the message:
"The SMTP server “smtp.me.com” rejected the password for user “jt0229” Enter your password again or cancel."
I don't even know what this password is. From what I can tell, it's not the same pw as for "me.com".

I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard Version 10.6.8. Can't receive nor send email. I have two email addresses using ATT. One address works, the other doesn't. The bad address is behaving weirdly: In Mail, in the "On My Mac" folder labeled "Recovered Messages," the contents refer to one email sent with a PDF file (19.7 MB). This email keeps cloning itself, and I keep deleting them. I resorted to deleting the PDF file from my computer. No luck. I recently changed my email addresses from AOL addresses to ATT (powered by Yahoo) addresses, in case this has anything to do with it. Have shut down computer and modem twice with no luck. The Mail Activity window is wild with activity, none of which I understand.

Maybe I'm a dumbass and missed something obvious, but in Leopard Mail, in the New Message window, there's a drop-down menu where you can choose which email to send the message from. But in Snow Leopard, the drop-down menu's not there, and I can't figure out how to choose which email address I want the message to be sent from. The only way I could do it is to click a message sent to that email address, then click New Message, the message will then send from that email address.

I use Thunderbird for e-mail and it's setup as the default mail client. Recently, as in the past month maybe, when sending calendar invites, Mail opens. I don't want that to happen. Why doesn't calendar use the defined, default mail app to send invites ? I'm 99% sure it used to do this too.

I am using Snow Leopard. An odd behavior has recently appeared. On some (but not all) occassions, when I send an email from an IMAP account, after the email is sent successfully (confirmed by a copy in the Sent mailbox), a second copy appears in the Draft mailbox.
The account is a gmail account (but @plessthan.com rather than gmail.com).
Of note, about a month ago (well before this started happening), I converted from POP to IMAP. To do this, I set up a new IMAP account in Mail, then rendered the POP account inactive.

If anyone on here uses aim, have you had issues since using Leopard sending files on AIM(AOL instant messenger)? I am unable to send anyone any type of file on there. I can receive, but I am unable to send anyone anything....any suggestions? I can send files through yahoo...so I'm not too sure why AIM hates me so much.

After many years of good service my Apple Mail has suddenly become very picky. For a week or two new messages have been dispatched to my outbox to "try later" thence to "whoosh" away when it felt like it. Lately it has become downright nasty, refusing to "send" at all. Connection check tells me "cannot connect to SMTP". A call to my ISP verified all settings were correct. Tried changing password -nothing worked. ISP tells me fault is with Apple Mail. Incoming mail is O.K.

So I was sitting around with my MBA and it froze, I admit I was a bit ambitious in trying to launch several things at once none of which were "nice" per se, but nevertheless, I didn't want to restart it just in case it'd start responding again. Now at this point, if I had an ugly as hell laptop from some cheap company (or even the more expensive non-apple branded laptops), there would be a light which flickers to tell me whether things are still happening or not, and when it stops I'd know, "damn windows has let me down again" or whatever it is that caused me to crash my laptop. But with the mac laptops, this indication does not exist and it is a minor annoyance, but nevertheless, it begs the qusetion, why doesn't it exist? Why is there no "activity" light on a laptop? Or the iMac for that matter? Or any mac? Is it a sign of "oh we're so responsive that you'll never need indication that we're not responding"? Because well that's just crap.
