Just installed Snow two days ago. Runs great, so far. As of today, when I try to send mail from Mac Mail, something strange happens every so often.
I get a message saying it can't send the message because the SMTP options have not been set. They are in fact set, and Mail has been functioning normally until installing Snow.
Anyone having this problem, and how did you fix? All my server settings are in place so I'm not sure what else to change.
I'm trying to send some scanned documents via mail. The PDF file is 19 MB. Its a yahoo based account that allows a maximum file size of 25MB. I can send it through the webmail client wheni log into yahoo, but i cant send anything larger then about 12MB through mail.

All of a sudden Mail won't send - it's freezing, and then finally asks for my password. Once I input the password (which hasn't changed), it sends. It's a gmail acct set up as IMAP.

Maybe I'm a dumbass and missed something obvious, but in Leopard Mail, in the New Message window, there's a drop-down menu where you can choose which email to send the message from. But in Snow Leopard, the drop-down menu's not there, and I can't figure out how to choose which email address I want the message to be sent from. The only way I could do it is to click a message sent to that email address, then click New Message, the message will then send from that email address.
I use Thunderbird for e-mail and it's setup as the default mail client. Recently, as in the past month maybe, when sending calendar invites, Mail opens. I don't want that to happen. Why doesn't calendar use the defined, default mail app to send invites ? I'm 99% sure it used to do this too.

how do I get a return receipt when I send an email in the Mail program?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter many years of good service my Apple Mail has suddenly become very picky. For a week or two new messages have been dispatched to my outbox to "try later" thence to "whoosh" away when it felt like it. Lately it has become downright nasty, refusing to "send" at all. Connection check tells me "cannot connect to SMTP". A call to my ISP verified all settings were correct. Tried changing password -nothing worked. ISP tells me fault is with Apple Mail. Incoming mail is O.K.

I am running a Powerbook with OS 10.5.8 with mail 3.6. For no obvious reason, mail quit sending messages. It receives but does not send. I have reinstalled mail from the installation disc but it didn't resolve the problem. I doubt it was a factor but when the send function quit I was on a very slow dial-up connection. During this time when I was lucky enough to get connected, the connection would drop after a minute or two or it might last for several minutes. This happened repeatedly while I was trying to download received mail and a program.

My ISP sent an email that they want me to change the port my email program uses. They said most programs use port 25 and they wanted it changed to port 587 because it's safer. I called them to clarify and the tech had me change my Mail 3.6 preferences/advanced from port 995 to port 110 which he said was safer. Doing so renders me unable to e-mail so I switched it back to port 995. He couldn't figure out why 110 wouldn't work and suggested I contact Apple. I need to make any changes to my Mail account or not based either on the message from my ISP or the change the tech was trying to make. Unless I hear otherwise I'm staying at 995.

Getting "Cannot Send Message Using The Server."
Was on the phone with ATT to reconfigure new inbound and outbound settings, verify ports and authentication - still can't send.
In the Mail Preferences Account Information window, the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space can't be typed into; it offers an "edit server list" option that opens a window with the terms Description, Server Name, and In Use By Account. ATT instructed me to type the new server name under the Server Name heading but they did not know about the other two categories. So Description was left empty which caused the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space (on Account Information window) to have a mail server name attached by a colon to my e-mail address, which was bizarre. Only when Description had the actual server name underneath it did that name showed up in the SMTP space. Whatever is placed under Description in the edit server list window shows up in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) space of the Account Information window.

I'm suddenly unable to send an email. For no apparent reason, I now get the message:
"The SMTP server “smtp.me.com” rejected the password for user “jt0229” Enter your password again or cancel."
I don't even know what this password is. From what I can tell, it's not the same pw as for "me.com".
I am able to receive email and get on the Internet, but I cannot send emails. I have had the problem in the past but it resolved itself. I called my provider and confirmed my settings are correct.

I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard Version 10.6.8. Can't receive nor send email. I have two email addresses using ATT. One address works, the other doesn't. The bad address is behaving weirdly: In Mail, in the "On My Mac" folder labeled "Recovered Messages," the contents refer to one email sent with a PDF file (19.7 MB). This email keeps cloning itself, and I keep deleting them. I resorted to deleting the PDF file from my computer. No luck. I recently changed my email addresses from AOL addresses to ATT (powered by Yahoo) addresses, in case this has anything to do with it. Have shut down computer and modem twice with no luck. The Mail Activity window is wild with activity, none of which I understand.

Bit of a strange one to describe this, but I tried to send a message to a lot of recipients and it wouldn't send (I used the wrong server). Now I have an error message that falls off the bottom of the screen and I can't clear it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Snow Leopard. An odd behavior has recently appeared. On some (but not all) occassions, when I send an email from an IMAP account, after the email is sent successfully (confirmed by a copy in the Sent mailbox), a second copy appears in the Draft mailbox.
The account is a gmail account (but @plessthan.com rather than gmail.com).
Of note, about a month ago (well before this started happening), I converted from POP to IMAP. To do this, I set up a new IMAP account in Mail, then rendered the POP account inactive.
