Apr 30, 2010There is a thread like this labelled "solved" here with my last 2 posts in it unanswered. But I still can't get this security update to verify. I tried to repair permissions using disk utility and - as far as I can tell it - does repair permissions, but it still doesn't verify. I've even tried downloading Google Chrome and Firefox browsers and they won't verify either.

May 18, 2012I can't install neither Security Update 2012-003 nor Flashback Removal Update. The installer says the software cannot be installed on my machine. I am on a G5 (PPC) iMac running OSX 10.5.8. What's going wrong? By the way, automatic software update did not find any updates for me. I had to download the updates manually from Apple's software support page.

Nerdly question, but does anyone know if any of these types of security enhancements require the 64-bit *kernel* (not just a given app)? My white Macbook (C2duo) is unlikely to run 64-bit unless Apple lets it in their final release (it apparently won't so far as they haven't written drivers for my lowly machine).

Feb 22, 2010I am using the native NTFS read/write support via the /etc/fstab "hack" for lack of a better term. Since I routinely transfer files bigger than 4GB on a jumpdrive between Windows 7 and OSX I don't really have a choice but to use NTFS. I would rather use this than MacFuse/ntfs-3g since I think it is faster. When I write something to the drive and take it to the Windows 7 machine, the security on the newly written file is set to admin - I have to log in as the admin on the Win7 machine, right click and change the security settings. When I formatted the drive initially (on the Win7 machine), I set it for full control for everyone. Is there a way to force OSX to write the file with the same permissions as the drive?

Apr 30, 2012I have been able to open pdfs perfectly well up until I changed the security settings on Adobe Reader. As I read somewhere that Apples have an inbuilt pdf reader I trashed everything Adobe, but still can't open pdfs. Tried using Preview to no avail.Â
Is there some other way of opening pdfs without reinstalling Adobe?

Jul 3, 2009I can't find very much on this, but I am wondering how likely it is that Autodesk Maya 2010 (or other future releases) will be much more advanced on Snow Leopard. For example, finally having a 64-bit version for Mac. It would seem quite sad that for such an advanced program as Maya, for it to be limited only to a non-advanced OS as Windows. I've heard that it is possible, and that once Maya is available for Mac in 64-bit, it will be far superior to that of 64-bit Windows.

Applications :: Maya 2010 And Snow Leopard
Oct 18, 2009I recently bought a Macbook Pro to use for school. I had asked around the web and people said a Mac Pro would run Autodesk Maya fine. Then I did some more research and found out that Maya 2010 and 2009 run oddly on any computer with Snow Leopard but they run fine on Leopard. I went to the Autodesk website and they said they are currently working on coding it correctly for Snow Leopard. Why they just decided now is a mystery. My question is, should I wait to hear news about Maya 2010 being qualified to run on SL or can I just buy it now and install it? when they fix the problem can I just update Maya online and it will be fine? I don't need Maya RIGHT now but I would like to have it eventually.
And if there is anyone out there who has Maya 2010 or 09 and it runs fine on SL please let me know. Also, I heard people just downgrade to Leopard if they upgraded to SL but the Mac Pro I have had SL installed on it so I don't have Leopard software. Is there a way for me to downgrade to Leopard? Like can I torrent it or call the Apple Store and ask them to help?

Mar 20, 2012Got a suspicious email wanting security updates on my bank accounts. Didn't use the link in the email & didn't knowingly download anything from the email. Went to another server & accessed my bank account to get an address to forward the email to. Went back to my mail & found that the suspected phishing email had vanished. My bank says I most likely got a virus from the email, thinks my account(s) has been compromised & advised me to scan my computer for malware before trying to go to my account again.My Software update shows I have the latest security, I never got a message advising me of suspicios sites or downloads. So how do I check for a virus or malware???Â

Jul 3, 2012Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store).When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.
I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March.In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update.This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto).The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this? Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?

Jun 10, 2012I recently bought a Mid 2010 MacBook from eBay that has Lion on it. I'm trying to do a reinstall of Mac OS in order to remove an account that came on it but the restore process says that I'm not the "owner" when I type in my Apple ID. Â I don't have the original restore discs. I called Apple about this and they said that I could buy the retail version of Snow Leopard or buy Lion "again" in the app store but with my Apple ID. Â
I would think that if this computer originally shipped with Lion that I shouldn't have to buy it again, which suggests that maybe it really shipped with Snow Leopard. However, in user manual on support.apple.com for this model it talks about Lion.Â
I'm going to call Apple back about this but shouldn't they know based on my serial number which OS shipped with the computer?Â

OS X :: Unable To Updating Latest Security Update 2009-001 And Java 10.5 Update 3?
Feb 14, 2009I have problems since applying the latest security Update 2009-001 and Java 10.5 Update 3, I have 10.5.6 on the new unibody 2.4ghz and have completely lost the ability to connect to my wireless access point which is an apple airport extreme base station.
I can sometimes se the base station but cannot connect to it and sometimes cannot see it at all. I have three other apple computers at home all less then a year old running the same build of 10.5.6 but have not updated them and they all are fine.
This one was perfect untill I applied the update.
The machine I am having problems with is partitioned with windows 7 beta on it which has no problems connecting to the base station, which indicates that its not a hardware problem but more then likely the update which is causing the problem.
Is there a way to uninstall the last update or delete it? Any one with a similar problem or know how I can fix it, I have googled but cannot seem to find anyone with similar problems.
