OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: 'Software Security Device' Password Dialog?

May 4, 2012

I'm installing a 2010 version of Eudora and it wants the software security device password. Well, I have no idea what that is. My user password, admin password, and other usual passwords don't work.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Logout Prompt/ Change Log Out Dialog?

Apr 23, 2012

I was wondering if somebody could help me. I would like to run a script when a user selects log out from the apple drop down to ask the user if they backed up their data before it allows them to log out.  I created a script that prompts you and then brings you to the logout screen but do not know how to get it to run, or something similar to run, when you select log out.  Obviously, I do not want it to run when the user has already logged out.

The other option I see that could work would be to change the message, "are you sure you want to quit all applications and log out now?" which I cannot figure out how to do.

OS X :: Will These Snow Leopard Security Bits Work For 32 Kernel

Aug 8, 2009

Apple's site about Snow Leopard says that 64-bit *apps* under Snow Leopard will be more secure than ever due to several things:A more secure function argument-passing mechanism and the use of hardware-based execute disable for heap memory.

Memory on the system heap is marked using strengthened checksums, helping to prevent attacks that rely on corrupting memory.

Nerdly question, but does anyone know if any of these types of security enhancements require the 64-bit *kernel* (not just a given app)? My white Macbook (C2duo) is unlikely to run 64-bit unless Apple lets it in their final release (it apparently won't so far as they haven't written drivers for my lowly machine).

OS X :: Snow Leopard's Native NTFS Support And Security Settings

Feb 22, 2010

I am using the native NTFS read/write support via the /etc/fstab "hack" for lack of a better term. Since I routinely transfer files bigger than 4GB on a jumpdrive between Windows 7 and OSX I don't really have a choice but to use NTFS. I would rather use this than MacFuse/ntfs-3g since I think it is faster. When I write something to the drive and take it to the Windows 7 machine, the security on the newly written file is set to admin - I have to log in as the admin on the Win7 machine, right click and change the security settings. When I formatted the drive initially (on the Win7 machine), I set it for full control for everyone. Is there a way to force OSX to write the file with the same permissions as the drive?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Why Can't Open Pdf Documents After Using Adobe Reader Security

I have been able to open pdfs perfectly well up until I changed the security settings on Adobe Reader.  As I read somewhere that Apples have an inbuilt pdf reader I trashed everything Adobe, but still can't open pdfs.  Tried using Preview  to no avail.

Is there some other way of opening pdfs without reinstalling Adobe?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Debug Adding Usb Device?

Jun 2, 2012

When I add my new Iomega Helium USB HD to my Macbook Pro running 10.6.8, the screen and keyboard all freeze. There laptop has to be rebooted. It does this when I do it standalone and when I use external screen, keyboard and hub. It is a problem with my setup because the drive works fine will all of the other Windows and Mac machines I have.

The cause was the installation of the Iomega software (why did I ever trust Iomega software?) as I only installed it on my macbook pro.Can I run some diagnostics/debug to trace the insertion of the USB device to see where it is going wrong? I have manually uninstalled the software but I am convinced I have missed something.I have a complete clone backup from before the installation but don't want to lose other changes (like email etc) since that day, although I am happy to restore specific files.

MacBook :: No Sound Device After Snow Leopard Upgrade

Sep 13, 2010

I've upgraded my old MacBook (MacBook1,1/Early 2006) with a new SSD, 2GB RAM and a fresh installation of Snow Leopard (Retail). Everything runs much smoother now, except that there is no more sound (no sound device found). I don't think it's a hardware problem, since the startup sound (chime) still works perfectly. Everything worked fine with OS X 10.4. I tried a SMC and PRAM reset, but didn't help. Some results on Google said that I should try to stick in some headphones and that should do the trick, but it didn't.

MacBook Pro :: No Password Dialog Box After Waking Up From Sleep?

Oct 3, 2009

Sometimes when I let my MBP (see sig) go to sleep with the screen open, I come back and hit the spacebar to wake it up and it doesn't give me the password dialog box to wake it from sleep. All i see is a black screen with the mouse pointer on it. This sometimes happens when I wake and DO get the password box but if I wait and don't enter the password right away, the box disappears and wont come back. In both cases I'm forced to push the power button to shut it down and restart. Any solutions to this, or is it just a fluke?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Suspicious Email Wanting Security Updates On My Bank Accounts?

Got a suspicious email wanting security updates on my bank accounts. Didn't use the link in the email & didn't knowingly download anything from the email. Went to another server & accessed my bank account to get an address to forward the email to. Went back to my mail & found that the suspected phishing email had vanished. My bank says I most likely got a virus from the email, thinks my account(s) has been compromised & advised me to scan my computer for malware before trying to go to my account again. My Software update shows I have the latest security, I never got a message advising me of suspicios sites or downloads.  So how do I check for a virus or malware???

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mount Device Via USB In Single User Mode

Jul 4, 2012

My macbook pro appeared to be crashed with harddisk problem at start time.. unable to boot to normal login screen. When I run in single user mode, I dont seem to see my thumbdrive, or external device.

I connected them via the USB ports on my Macbook pro (17")(Snow Leopard) I checked /dev/disk* and saw only disk0 (disk0, disk0s1, disk0s2, disk0s3). I never get to see disk1 no matter what I tried. (I've various MSDOs format, or NTFS format disks).

I followed the advise here: [URL] Am I supposed to be able to see the drive the moment I connect it to the port?

Software :: Supplying Password To "open" Without GUI Based Dialog Box?

Jun 13, 2008

I have created an encrypted disk image that I want to open the command line, using the open program. I issue the open Image.dmg command, at which time a dialog box pops up on the screen, prompting me for the encryption password. However, what I'd like to do is issue the password without a GUI-based password dialog. Is this possible? If so, how? The reason I want to do this is because I ssh into my Mac from a remote Linux box, and I can only run command-line utilities. I'd like to open the volume from within this remote connection.
