i dont have my mac in front of me but i was wondering if it is possible to open a file by a single click in Mac OS X. I have set up Ubuntu to do this on my work computer and i find it very cool

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy dashboard widgets froze -- open on screen. I had to close each widget.Now I now longer have one-click pop up of my selected widgets.I get a beep when I click the dashboard icon. I have to click the plus sign and open individual widgets.

I have been having problems with my MacBook (Aluminum late 2008, I think, OS 10.5). It runs slowly; files on the desktop and in my "Macintosh HD" often won't open with double-click but have to be opened with File-->Open; there are Word Work Files that won't go away; the trackpad is often stiff and not very responsive; clicking on the mouse is very stiff, despite very easy settings. In short, a lot of things are sluggish. Sometimes, also, I get the spinning beach ball, but not all the time.Â
I have run disk permissons repair from Disk Utility many times (both from the desktop and from the MacBook install disk); I have replaced the directory with Disk Warrior at least twice; I have verified that the disk is OK; I have zapped the PRAM; and done other things of that kind.Â
I took the MacBook to an Apple Store yesterday. It had been unplugged and much to my surprise, most everything seemed to be working all right. When I opened it today, however, I found everything as it was before I took it to Apple. Including the Word Work files, which I thought were gone.Â
If I recall correctly, this started when I was working on a long editing project in Word, but I don't know whether that has anything to do with what has happened. I've done similarly long projects before, and this never happened.Â
I could try trashing the Word Work files (there seem also to be quite a lot of folders with "recovered" files), but I don't want to do that unless I can be assured that nothing bad will come from doing that. Â
I know this seems quite comprehensive, and may involve several issues, but I'm really unhappy about this and would love to think there is something more I can do, apart from returning to the Apple Store. Besides everything else, how can I khow that I won't find, again, that the MacBook will work fine there but goes back to its troubled state when I return?Â

This may be a silly question but when I have multiple finder windows open and I switch from one to the other then single click on a file, it opens the file.
This is really bugging me as I only want to select the file (to move it etc). Is there any way to prevent single click file opening?
I'm looking for an app kind of like caffeine except for toggling wallpaper. Something that will let me switch from my trashy semi-pornographic wallpaper to something more respectful as needed with a single click.

I have an older MacBook Pro running system 10.4.11. Yesterday, I started having strange trackpad behavior where it will sometime act as if I double-clicked when I only clicked once. So I'm highlighting everything until I double click again. Then, I sometimes have to double-click in places a single-click is supposed to work such as closing windows. I've rebooted, adjusted a trackpad settings and don't know what to do at this point.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have this really annoying issue where my mouse will randomly double click in OS X when i didn't actually double click my mouse. I had this problem before in Leopard (with different mouse) but now it seems the problem has returned with snow leopard. has anyone else had this problem? I checked the mouse properties and there's nothing strange there. I also don't have custom drivers installed. Just default snow leopard drivers.

Before I formatted and reinstalled Lion on my MBP, I could select a window by tapping on its top bar and drag it using single finger on my trackpad. After reinstalling it, I am unable to do so. I have investigated the trackpad features in System Preferences, but it shows only the three-finger drag option. How do I get to select + drag a windown using single tap.

This is my first macbook, and I felt like watching borat but when I put the dvd in, the little disk image goes on my desktop but I can't play it. When I open the disk icon it goes to folder called VIDEO_TS inside is a bunch of images and other stuff. Sounds nooby but how do I watch movies on this thing.EDIT: I had to go into VLC manually and go to open disk.. Why cant I just click on the DVD and click play?

I just reformatted my system and installed all software again. My config is: Lion 10.7.3, Safari 5.1.5.
In the past, when I opened Safari, even a single window opened in a Tab, now when I open just one window (i.e. only one Tab), it doesnt open in a Tab, , only when I do a Command + T to add another Tab, does the first window convert into a Tab. The resulting problem is that if I want to drag one window to another (where the first one has only one Tab), I cant do that, since it doesnt appear as a Tab, which means there is nothing to select and drag to another window. Â

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy mac will not boot normally or in safe mode. I can boot to single user mode. I was trying to copy some files from the mac to a USB disk and it did not work. Now when i enter single user mode it spams USBF: 63.570 AppleUSBEHC2{0x3fc38001] found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 0xfd, timing out! The number changes but keeps going. Im just trying to transfer my paper from my mac to the usb stick in single user mode.

Do you remember in windows; when you want to play an album folder, you hit, right click then play in winamp or play, whatever. That's what I want to do on my mac, how can I do that! I use vox player to listen music, so to play a song I have to doble click on the folder then prees the song, what i want to do is, right click on the folder then show's and option who say "Play in VOX" same's as windows. So, i was wandering if it is possible to make a copy of some of my work files to an external hard drive trough Disk Utility, since my external HD doens't have enough space. View 11 Replies View Related I download an mp3 file. One of them is for a class I'm taking that has audio files as part of the course. If I double click in Finder on the file, it begins playing in iTunes and when done, iTunes goes on to play something else. While online is a live class, I did this and iTunes picked up a recording of a discussion I had recorded and played it aloud with my live mic to the entire class.
There are a number of things I hate about iTunes, this is but one. In general I use it without trouble. However, if I construct a playlist, when that list is exhausted it in some fashion known only to iitself and the developers chooses somewhere else to continue. It tends to think of itself as a super large iPod and keeps playing until I manually stop it. Since I have many days of audio in the library, this is not particularly sensible. What is the best way to play a single or small set of mp3 or other audio files and then stop?  iMac with Mavericks 10.9.3

If I set the double click speed to its maximum value (System Preferences -> Mouse) I can no longer open with double click folders that are on my desktop while it still works from the finder. I got the same thing from the mouse and from the trackpad. I have OS X 10.5.6.
