Jan 31, 2010When i click an icon on my desktop it doesnt open i have to click it more then once and sometimes i have to click rapidly fast and more then once for it to open.

OS X :: Desktop Icons Disappeared / Unable To Do Right Click On Desktop?
Jul 23, 2007Anyone come across a problem where all the desktop icons disappear? I also cannot right click on my desktop to bring up a contextual menu, my machine appears to be running faultlessly apart from that. I have run Onyx to reset permissions and have checked the disk but cannot seem to find anything wrong.
Running OSX 10.10 on a quad core 2.66 Mac Pro.
OS X :: Macbook Trash Dock Gone And Can't Minimise Or Click On Desktop Icons?
Jun 11, 2010I've seen some posts where one or a couple of these problems have arisen but not all simultaneously. The trash is there somewhere because I can delete but only via finder. The dock however cannot be coaxed back into existence and I can't activate any of the desktop icons by clicking on them. I also can't minimise the windows - the red and green buttons work fine but the yellow (although there and blinks when clicked) doesn't have any effect.

Sep 28, 2010I started up my computer and don't see any of the icons or HD icon on my desktop, but can see the image and the toolbar pops up on the bottom. I can run safari, itunes, iphoto, etc. but when I click on MS word or PP I get this message: Application Launch Failure The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "D<Microsoft Word><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_DVComponentGlue><>" I can upload docs as attachments, but can't open any microsoft stuff. What should I do? My roommate has a new version of MS office I could install, should I do this?

Sep 29, 2008i am a tad stumped by this issue i'm having right now with my new imac. i noticed one day that none of my desktop aliases show any longer. in fact if i go to the desktop folder through finder my files and such show in there however none of my aliases nor those files show on the actual desktop. another thing i've noticed is that whenever i now try to drag and drop anything to the desktop whether it be a URL from safari or an alias i made in finder the dragged item simply just drags itself back to where i pulled it from.

Feb 20, 2008Okay, I'm having some problems with my Powerbook. Yesterday, I upgraded Firefox. When re-opening after the upgrade, I had a kernel panic. I restarted my computer and figured I would be good to go. Well, after logging back in, I found that Finder was acting up and I no longer had any desktop icons. Now, clicking the Finder icon in the dock will open a new Finder window just fine. If I go to the Desktop from there, all my icons are still there. So, I decided to restart my computer and see if that made a difference.

OS X :: Cannot Right Click Dock Icons
Nov 5, 2009The thing is that about a month or so I decided to change my dock skin, and just the dock, not any icon in particular. Later on I decided to go back to Leopard's original skin, once I replaced non-original skins with the original ones and had dock reseted by introducing "kill all Dock" on terminal, dock successfully reseted and looks like the original one... but somehow since then I can't no longer right-click on any of the icons in it, just can't, now I have to use cmd+Q to exit any of the applications I'm opening from dock. All other dock functions are working perfectly, like size bar and position changing.
The files I replaced/erased are:
scurve-I.png
scurve-m.png
scurve-sm.png
scurve-xl.png
By the way, I tried using "killall Dock" over and over again after replacing those archives and tried resetting dock using candybar application, but none of those worked for me so far.
IMac :: Can't Click Icons In Dock
Jul 16, 2009Sister-in-law drags and clicks everything! Result is what looks like pages behind some of the icons in the dock. Can't click them. Drag an icon away and they stay but are covered immediately when the icons rearrange themselves. There are 4 or 5 of them including one hiding behind the trash. Mousing over them doesn't give any info.

Apr 30, 2012So i haven't had one single problem with my Imac for 1.5 years until Yesterday I recently recieved a SD card that i purchased off ebay and stuck it into the side which I was expecting to popup but didn't This may or may not be the reason why my Imac is acting wierd but basically I cannot Left click at ALL, right click works, the internet works
The taskbar at the bottom with the icons do not have the title shown when I hover down the bottom either. I have a 2010 Imac with 12gb ram that i upgraded to.

IMac :: Taskbar Missing Across The Top / Unable To Click Icons In Dock
May 19, 2009I booted my new 2009 iMac this afternoon and when it came up there was no taskbar across the top. I could not click on the icons on the dock either. the mouse worked and the desktop was there. I have a mouse on my Logitech keyboard and it worked so I know the keyboard did. I had no way to shut down so I held the button down till the machine powered down and it did in a second or so.
I waited about a minute and booted back up again and all came up like normal except the hard drive was running like crazy and the machine was super sluggish.After about a minute the hard drive quit running and all seemed normal.
I shut down like normal and then shut off the surge strip machine is plugged into to have a total power cut. Let sit about 2 minutes powered back on and booted machine and it booted like normal and acts perfectly normal. What caused the anomaly???
Never done it before and machine is about 2 months or old or so. Bought it as soon as new iMac's were released this year. It is the flagship 3.06 iMac. Bone stock. It has all the latest updates. Running 10.5.7

Apr 27, 2007If I have an event, starting on Friday, going on Saturday and and finishing Sunday, is it not possible to get this to show in the month view? I know it shows up in the weekly view, but it would be more helpful for me to have it up show up like this so I can get an overview of the month's forthcoming events. Time machine will be a welcome native backup solution, especially since I can do it over the network automatically. However, I've read that Time Machine naturally requires HFS+ formatted disks. But I will still have my Win7 laptop for gaming purposes, and of course that requires NTFS or FAT32 for writability. My question: Can I just take a TM compatible external drive, split it into two partitions, and then specify that each computer backup onto its own partition with its own file system?

Feb 4, 2010We've had a Macbook now for about 18 months - no problems. However, last night it was very slow in starting-up and then we found it impossible to move any icons around the screen (click+drag). We have just five small folders on the desktop.
Although 'hiding' is 'on', the dock has also disappeared completely and settings for the dock cannot be changed under preferences.
The Macbook won't turn off under 'shut-down', we have to shut-down by holding pressing 'on' button.

OS X :: Suddenly Can't Click Anything - Desktop Seems Unresponsive.
Oct 5, 2008So I was just using my computer normally when I was suddenly having an issue where I could not click on anything. I was forced to hard restart but it did not help. I am still able to navigate with the trackpad or my mighty mouse (wireless) but clicking with either does nothing.
After some searching I have reset the pram multiple times and have also done command+S at boot and run fsck. Resetting the pram worked once, but only for maybe 5 minutes. During that time I ran a permissions test, it corrected 2-3 things but that is it. I have tried booting from the leopard cd but it spits the cd out.
OS X :: Can Lock Desktop Icons
Sep 21, 2010Does anyone know if there's a way to lock my desktop icons (so my curious kids don't mistakenly - or not so mistakenly - move stuff around or into trash). My desktop is kept fairly simple (icons for the various HDs and folders for homework). We've also had the issue of items going *poof* from the dock - which is an easily fixable issue - but a little bit of a nuisance to have to retrieve from time to time.
