MacBook Pro :: Enabling Single Click+select To Drag Windows On Trackpad Of MBP

May 5, 2012

Before I formatted and reinstalled Lion on my MBP, I could select a window by tapping on its top bar and drag it using single finger on my trackpad. After reinstalling it, I am unable to do so. I have investigated the trackpad features in System Preferences, but it shows only the three-finger drag option. How do I get to select + drag a windown using single tap.

MacBook :: Trackpad Tap To Click Stops Working / Re-enabling Starts To Work

Dec 27, 2010

I have an Unibody MacBook. I've experienced that under OS X "Tap to Click" function of the trackpad stops to work after "some" usage. Then I go to System Preferences, disable the feature, reenable it and it starts working again. OS X is updated and firmware updates are all installed.

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Settings For Single / Double Click

May 4, 2010

I have an older MacBook Pro running system 10.4.11. Yesterday, I started having strange trackpad behavior where it will sometime act as if I double-clicked when I only clicked once. So I'm highlighting everything until I double click again. Then, I sometimes have to double-click in places a single-click is supposed to work such as closing windows. I've rebooted, adjusted a trackpad settings and don't know what to do at this point.

Though I liked the Expos per application feature, I would prefer having all my opened windows available in the same region they are minimized. On similar way, do you know if there is a way of having all the opened windows [instead of all the opened applications] available when doing COMMAND-TAB?

MacBook Pro :: Single-tap-to-select Randomly Stops Working?

Mar 13, 2012

Recently, my MBP's single-tap-to-select stops working, usually after I wake it up from sleep. This happens almost every other day, for the past 2-3 weeks (since 10.7.3 I'm guessing). Double-tap-to-right-click works fine, and keyboard commands all work, but single-tap just doesn't work till I reboot the machine. It's driving me mad. Even plugging in a mouse doesn't help, so it's not a trackpad / hardware issue at all.

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Keeps Bouncing The Mouse Pointer When Tap To Select

Sep 4, 2014

had problems with the trackpad - when I tap to select an item the mouse pointer "bounces" off the item I'm trying to select. It happens randomly - not every time. I migrated all my data and settings from my old Mac Pro (2011 model, also running Mavericks) via Time Machine - could that have an impact? Not using any non-Apple power supplies or other devices.

Software :: Won't Drag And Drop Anything / Can Select Or Deselect

Aug 8, 2003

On my new 17" Powerbook, I can't drag and drop anything. I can only select/deselect and cut/paste, but no drag. This is consistent throughout all my apps. I can manage getting around the finder with cut/paste, but I can't do any graphic work if I can't drag anything (you can imagine).

MacBook Pro :: Track Pad Stuck On Right-Click And Drag?

Oct 28, 2009

I did a search and didn't see anybody with the same problem. I have an Oct 2008 (unibody) MBP with 2.8 ghz core 2 duo, 4GB RAM, 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD.So I loaded a YouTube page, paused a video to let it load and suddenly when I tried to click "play" the track pad seemed to not be working. I then realized that it was highlighting all the text and I couldn't click out of it. Likewise, when I apple-q safari, it began selected icons in my desktop. I noticed I could still two-finger-tap to right click and open a context menu, but I can't select anything within that menu.

I can't imagine the notebook suddenly became damaged. I know early macbook pros had a similar problem due to the battery swelling, but I opened the battery compartment and the battery feels very cool. I also read that resetting the SMC and repairing disk permissions might help, but that didn't do anything either.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Command-Drag Select In List View?

May 4, 2012

There are many things about Lion that irk the crap outta me, but this one is near the top. In ALL previous versions of Finder, one could, in list view, select a bunch of files by dragging over them, then, holding the command key down, add more non-contiguous files to the selection, again by dragging. If you try that in Lion, it starts dragging the whole lot of what you just selected to, usually, the root folder of the window you have open.

It appears that the only way to add extra non-contiguous files to a selection is to individually click each one of them.

MacBook :: Trackpad Unable To Highlight Or Drag Things / Internet Is Very Slow

Apr 3, 2009

My trackpad is now having some troubles on my Alu macbook. I can't highlight or drag things anymore. Occasionally it will work but it will be jerky and only highlight bits that I don't necessarily need. This is vital for me as I need to copy parts of statutes etc. as I'm in law school. I think I have installed the firmware update but I'm not entirely sure - if someone could link me to it that'd be grand.

My internet on campus is also extremely slow.. It doesn't have anything to do with the signal either. We have an Apple reseller on campus who said it might be a problem with the airport card.

Basically - should I take it in? Obviously it has some issues but I don't know if I'm being too pedantic or what..

MacBook Pro :: Very Slow In Starting-up - Impossible To Move Any Icons Around Screen - Click - Drag

We've had a Macbook now for about 18 months - no problems. However, last night it was very slow in starting-up and then we found it impossible to move any icons around the screen (click+drag). We have just five small folders on the desktop.

Although 'hiding' is 'on', the dock has also disappeared completely and settings for the dock cannot be changed under preferences.

The Macbook won't turn off under 'shut-down', we have to shut-down by holding pressing 'on' button.

MacBook Pro :: Sometimes Trackpad Will Not Click

Sep 16, 2010

Basically, the trackpad works just fine most of the time. However, sometimes (often enough to be aggravating), it will not click. A typical scenario is this: I'll have a web browser or something open and I will want to close the window. So I go to click the red button. The cursor is over the red button, and the button turns to an x, notifying that I am in the right spot. I will click the trackpad, and it will make the click sound, and nothing will happen. I'll try clicking several more times and nothing. The click just won't register no matter how many times I click. What I will have to do to make it work is stop clicking and take my hand off the trackpad for like 5-6 seconds, then click, and it will work. I do not have tap to click on. This is a 15" MBP 2.4ghz i5.

MacBook Air :: Does The Trackpad Have A Loud Click

Oct 22, 2010

For the new MacBook Air owners: how loud is the click on your trackpad?

I have a black MacBook which has the separate button (pre-glass trackpad). It's almost completely silent. On almost every unibody MacBook Pro though, the click is really loud and can sometimes even be heard in the next room.

How is this with the new Airs? Still loud or not really noticeable? I like to click instead of tap, but not if everyone can hear my neurotic clicking all day long

MacBook Air :: TrackPad Click Bar Fails

Mar 5, 2008

Yesterday I was using my MacBook Air. And I began to hear a loud click, when I clicked on the trackpad, click bar. It's a mechanical sound, it actually comes from the click bar, but only on the left side. I couldn't figure it out, but my son was at home, and he did.The left side of the click bar has raised up a tiny bit, maybe a 1/64th of an inch. The right side remains flush.Apparently something underneath the click bar has broken, or whatever, and allows the left side to float.

So when I click, the sound I hear comes from the raised end of the click bar, as it travels up and down.I'm going down to the Apple Store tomorrow morning to see a "Genius".What are my chances that they'll replace my MBA, rather than sending it to neverneverland?

MacBook Air :: MBA Trackpad Button - No Right Click?

Mar 7, 2010

I've been considering either a MacBook Pro 13" or a MacBook Air. I'll probably wait until the next MB Pro refresh (looks to be toward the end of March), and either pick up a new one, or possibly a refurb (of the earlier models) or close-out. Not sure yet.

I'm a long-time Mac user, on Macs exclusively since 1987, so no stranger to the platform.

I was checking out the MacBook Air (Apple Store and Best Buy), and noticed something about the trackpad.

It has the "button" at the bottom. But - try as I might - I could not configure it to do a "right click" (that is to say, press "towards the right" on the button to display a contextual menu).

I was able to go to the "trackpad" preference, and was able to set up the "two-finger touch" to invoke the "right click". But there seems to be no way to use the right end of the trackpad button itself to do this.

Is this correct, or did I miss something?

By comparison, it is easy to set up the MacBook Pro to do a right-click, even with its "buttonless" trackpad.

But this feature seems missing from the MB Air.

Is it?
