Jan 18, 2008A lot of people used skype on my mac with different user names. So i would like to delete all this Skype names from the login screen. How I do that?

Jun 14, 2010On the right hand side of my desktop when I download a program it seems to put an icon or doc on the right hand side. Like right now I have a skype dmg file I can't delete as it says Skype is in use, then right above that is a seperate skype icon that even if I drag to dock it still stays on the right hand side (like a copy), then I downloaded open office again and it put the install icon there (like when you open and you drag your program to teh applications folder)

Jun 26, 2009I was running my iMac just in admin, which I know is frowned upon but that's the way I had it. I had a corrupt preferences file and I couldn't save any of my passwords etc Finally created a new user and reinstalled everything and it works fine. Had to replace all my passwords for my apps etc but other than that not that big a deal.
Question is can I now delete the other user now that I have a new admin login?:
It is just taking up storage space with a user which is corrupted but I don't want to erase the data in that user and also delete all my data in the new user as well.

Jun 20, 2008Hi! Im new to the forums but i really need help with something and i was hoping someone here could help me out. So I just installed Tech Tool Deluxe onto my macbook and then shut it down later. I went back to use it again and when i turned it on a login screen appeared asking me to put in my password. I did that and the screen turned blue (looking like it was loading) and then went back to the login screen. Every time i put in my password it just takes me back to the login screen. I have had my mac for a while and i dont want my hardrive to get wiped out so what do i do? Thank you for looking

Jun 5, 2008I have reached this website after scrawling to find a solution on the internet. I hope someone can help me with this problem.I have a 4 years old G4 ibook (OS 10.3.7), and have been using it for internet, skype and foto-storage mainly.Situtation:Yesterday I tried to use the internet (Firefox browser) and skype, but the skype didn't work at all. Since firefox was not working properly either, I did force quit and restarted the computer. I attempted this several times until I could use both applications (never had any problems before). However, Skype didn't work, and in the end, I could not quit firefox at all. At last I did force quit again, and saw white screen with apple icon at the centre when restarting. No time-spinning mark, the apple just sits there.
Troubleshooting that I have done:
I called up support center, and they told me that it's very likey that the computer is stopping at "'carnel" stage (I'm sorry but I don't know what this is). The possibility that it's got something to do with HD is 50/50, so I may have to send it to repairing service in the worst case. They told me to try using Disc Install CD1 to check/repair something wrong in my computer. So I followed the instructions and inserted the install CD and restart the computer with "c" key. The computer read the CD and Installer window showed up. As instructed in a manual, I used First Aid in Disc Utility, and tried "repairing disc". After a while it said "1 HFS has been repaired". It also said that Macintosh HD doesn't seem to have a problem", so I quit the disc utility and restarted the computer.
Against my expectation, the same white screen with apple came up on the screen and sits there with no other movements.I'm afraid of trying somethinig without further so I hope I can get the same story or ideas that someone here might have.
IMac :: Blue Screen But Can Hear Skype?
Sep 8, 2009I have an iMac G5 that is clearly booting up--you can hear the skype connection sound in the background--but I'm stuck w/ a blue screen. Tried P-RAM and other keyboard methods, to no avail. Took off back cover, seems as though only 1 fan is working.
Was able to connect iMac to my laptop via target mode, so it's truly a screen connection problem.

Mar 8, 2009I think the latest 'full-screen' Skype for Windows (4.0) is the most efficient user interface for a chat program that I've ever seen. I can't stand having all my chats cluttered over my desktop. Now I just can't wait until they bring the same user interface to Mac. Does anyone have any idea on when the full-screen version of Skype will be available for Mac?

Jul 25, 2009i am the administrator account for my macbook pro, osx leopard. when a roommate moved out, i wanted to delete his standard login account. however, instead of figuring out how to do it the proper way, i accessed the devices/macintosh HD/users/ folder in Finder and simply deleted it. now, when the login screen appears, there are three options: my admin account, a guest account, and an account with no picture entitled "Other...". I can't log into this account, and it doesn't appear in the System Preferences/Accounts screen, so i can't delete or adjust it from there.
has anyone run into this problem before?? it's not a huge nuisance but it's a bit annoying to see it every time i want to log in.

MacBook Pro :: Can't Start Up; Stuck At Gray Screen- Started W/ Skype
Apr 21, 2012my mom's Macbook Pro can't start up. it gets stuck at the grey screen w/ the Apple logo and spinning pinwheel every time. nothing else is plugged into the laptop aside from the power cord.
here's what i tried already, but to no avail:
- Reset SMC
- Reset PRAM
- Hold shift while starting up... nothing happens. So can't start in safe mode
- Used install disk to run Disk Utility diagnostic: Ran into a bunch of Disk Permission errors and fixed those. Nothing wrong on the Disk itself.
- Held Command-S while starting up and typed "fsck -fy". Got "File system was modified" at first. Ran it again and got clean bill of health there
- Held "d" while booting, ran the hardware test and it checked out fine.
after all of the above, tried waiting for it to restart for 15 minutes and still same spinning wheel.
this all started when a Skype update couldn't install, so i got rid of the current Skype. then tried downloading the new Skype. after it supposedly downloaded fully and it was automatically processing in the download pop up window (e.g. something about "writing", "image", etc.), it got stuck and froze the computer for at least 5 minutes. at that point, i help the power button until it turned out. then this started..
PS: not sure if this has anything to do w/ the problem, but after this happened, i tried to use Disk Utilities to make an image onto an external hard drive and it gave me an "operation timed out" error.

MacBook Pro :: Isight Camera - Used It For Skype And Noticed It Just Showed A Black Screen?
Oct 25, 2010I have a 15'' 2010 macbook pro that I've only owned for about a month and a half. At first the isight camera worked great,I used it multiple times for photobooth. But a few weeks ago I tried to used it for skype and noticed it just showed a black screen. I thought maybe the problem was just with skype, but I started checking other programs and it's the same in all of them. The green light is on and it's recognized in system profiler, but the screen is black.
A few days after this happened, the problem seemed to fix itself, but then it went right back to the black screen 2 days later, and had been that way ever since.
I tried resetting the PRAM, but it didn't help. Is there anything else I can do, or is it time to give in and take my macbook to the Apple store?
MacBook :: Start Skype While In Windows, The Computer Crashes / Blue Screen?
Feb 19, 2009Everytime I start skype while in windows, the computer crashes and I get the blue screen... I think it has to do with the sound drivers, because when I'm using msn messenger also in windows suddenly the microphone mutes itself.
I tryed updating the realtek drivers with no help, updated skype, no help, I uninstalled the realtek drivers and the laptop did not crash anymore but I had no sound, any advice like for example how to get the microsoft drivers to work on the laptop without using realtek??
For whatever reason with the microsoft drivers,I think the sound is trying to come out of the digital outlet, I can see the ligth inside the jack, but nothing comes out of the laptop's speakers...
By the way, the vista version is Home basic.

So, I was using the screen-sharing feature of Skype and my girlfriend wanted me to show her The Sims 3 game. I was running Safari, MSN Messenger, Skype and a full screen instance of The Sims 3. My Macbook Pro crashed in the loading screen of the game and the fans turned on at full screen.Since that happened, I'm hearing the fans more constantly.

May 20, 2009before I went to bed, I was playing the Sims 2, when my iBook G4 crashed. Our power cord can be a bit dodgy, so sometimes that happens. I didn't really think about it much, just closed the laptop and went to sleep.Last Monday morning, I opened it and pressed the power button. It began turning on, and got as far as the grey screen with the apple and the spinning circle. And then it just froze. The circle stopped turning.
I freaked out a bit, and restarted it a bunch of times, each time with the same result. (One time it stopped spinning, and then told me a restart was required. Huh. The rest of the times the exact same thing happened though.) I even tried unplugging and removing the battery, but it made no difference. So eventually I just shut it and decided to try again later.Last Tuesday I opened it and pressed the power button without much hope, and again the apple and circle came up just fine, then stopped, but then a bunch of words and numbers popped up.I'm a complete computer noob, but they don't look good to me... or are they good?

MacBook Pro :: After Login Screen Computer Is Stuck On Default Screen?
Jul 5, 2012I tried uploading pictures with my s.card and then I plugged in my back up storage disk to transfer pictures and then my computer stopped working as if it was overloaded or something.... I tried forcing quit but that didn't help any. So I just shut it down in hopes that when it restarted it would work but now when it restarts the login screen comes up and after I type my password it just stays on snow leopard default screen(purple sky) and stays there.

Oct 3, 2010Is it possible to force the login screen instead of the locked screen when the computer goes to screen saver? I ask because the computer is used by the entire family - and by going to the login screen with all the users shown, the individual user will be more likely to login as themselves rather than just the current locked screen user.

When i click on it it asks me to complete name AND password ... which i dont know ofcourse.
When i check the Mac HD Users there is no "Other..." user data etc.

OS X :: Won't Reach Login Screen?
Mar 26, 2009Whenever I try to boot my MacBook, it chimes and shows the apple logo & loading gear like normal, but then the screen goes blue briefly as if everything is fine (sometimes the mouse even appears) but then returns to the loading gear (without an Apple logo). This continues without end, a brief blue screen and then the loading gear again.I tried safe booting, zapping the PRAM, fsck, and the Disk Utility repair to no avail.Trying to verify or repair the permissions in Disk Utility stops with a nondescript error. When I try booting in verbose mode, it gets to the login application startup and shows 2 apparent errors:"(Error) Import: importer;0x88fe00 importer start failed for 89 (kr:268435459 (ipc/send) invalid destination port)"and something containing "(/usr/sbin/mDNSResponder) no such file or directory"For reference, this is a MacBook running OSX 10.5.4.

Jun 21, 2009Something really simple I'm sure. I've just reformatted and setup an iMac for my parents. With the existing Admin account I created another one with Admin priveleges. So my mum had one and my dad. However when I turn on the iMac it doesn't display a logi screen so that my mum or dad can select which account they want to use and enter their password. It automatically loads into the first main admin user account.
The only way to switch to the other one is to click the apple at the top left and select log off.
Question: How can I get the login screen upon startup so my parents can select their own account?

Apr 22, 2010Just got a new MBP and migrated my account from my MB using Migration Assistant. Everything works, but if I try using screen sharing/Back to My Mac from ANY of my other Macs in the house to my new MBP, I cannot log in using my short name.
Can log in and screen share using my full name, but prefer three letters over many. Everything else works fine; can even file share using short name, just not screen sharing.

Apr 6, 2007I finally realized that I'm not crazy and my screen -does- look dimmer than normal. I checked the "Automatically dim for this power source setting" thing and the issue is not that. At the login prompt screen, everything is nice and bright, but the screen will dim to maybe 80% of that brightness once I log into any user.

IMac :: Booting - Cannot Get To Login Screen
Sep 6, 2009When I turned my iMac on this morning (iMac G5 PPC 10.5.8) it went through all of the "normal" steps (gong, grey screen, apple logo, progress wheel, blue screen) and stopped at the blue screen. Thinking it was just a fluke, I shut the machine down and restarted, only to have it stop at the blue screen again.
After disconnecting everything going into the iMac except the keyboard and mouse, I attempted to boot into safe mode but it stopped at the blue screen again. I tried single user mode too but I didn't get any further than the blue screen.
Next, I flashed the PRAM (big gong, single quieter gong) and afterwards it came to the blue screen.
I reattached my external drive and selected to boot from a 2-day old backup. Using the backup I was able to log into both my regular account and my "test" account (without login items).
