OS X :: Setting Password For Mail For Security Reason?
Aug 12, 2010
I'm not too cool with the idea of having my Mailbox accessible by whoever from my desktop. How can I secure it? Is there a way to enter a password after clicking on the mail icon at the bottom?

After we set up a security password on our router, my G4, OSX 10.4.11 will no longer connect to my network/internet. I keep getting the error message There was an error joining the Airport network "XXXXXX". My MacBook and all our other pc laptops connect with no problem. I don't have an Ethernet card working. The card went out and I would have had to replace the whole Motherboard, so we had an airport installed. It's worked great for 4 years now.

I have a problem with Mail. it crashed everytime i open the application, and i keep on reporting it to apple, and sometimes ignoring that, and nothing changes.
it happened to me before when i try to open a certain email from my friend. now when i open Mail, it automatically opens the first email on the list, and it's another email which has the same problem.
i don't know how to solve this problem.
My laptop is a Macbook pro 2.16ghz core2duo processor, 2gb ram, 160gb harddisk (80 gb free space), Running Leopard 10.5.1.

I've read a lot about Keychain but I must be missing something. I want to be able to secure Keychain itself whereby if someone where to get to my Mac while I got up for a second, they wouldn't be able to open Keychain at all without a password. I don't want them to be able to gain access to the program at all without a password. Is that possible?

how to enable Web Sharing, but I want to make it so that only certain people can access the shared directory. How can I make it so that users can get a password prompt and then see ALL files in my Users>myname>Sites folder? I see several complicated methods on the web on how to enable a password prompt for users coming to look at a file, but is there somewhere a simpler way to make this password-protected? BTW, I started the process, and was able to open httpd.conf using terminal, but, after I changed AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All, I was not able to save the file, even though I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which supposedly allows changes to httpd.conf.Â

I configured my MacBook Air to request a password after the screen turns on in "Security And Privacy". But then I realised that can change this option without unlocking the padlock. Here is a screen picture. I think is a very important security problem.Â

When I tried to log into iCloud I got a message that for security reasons I needed to reset may pass word. I have tried to do that 3 different times. Each time I get this email:The password for your Apple ID has been successfully reset. If you didn’t make this change or if you believe an unauthorized person has accessed your account, go to iforgot.apple.com to reset your password immediately. Then sign in to My Apple ID to review and update your security settings.
However, when I try to login to iCloud I keep getting the same message that the password has been disabled. I can not figure what is going on as I was able to login to this forum with the new password.

Is there a way to set up a password thru the Mac OS for a particular application, to protect it from opening? For example i just installed Evernote on my MacBook Pro and want to set a password for it. I'm planning to do a surprise party for my wife, so im trying to keep it for my eyes only for now. Unfortunately, Evernote doesn't come with a password on its own.

Was updating some iOS apps, when the App Store (assuming it was the app store), requested my password a second time, and then proceeded to request security questions and answers..It looked like pushing, and since I'd not heard of Apple instituting this procedure I elected not to input the information.Feedback submitted to Apple on this..

Given that when setting up the iCloud account on Mail no password, as far as I remember, the procedure does not ask for a password (that infact is inexistent), I wonder why sometimes a dialog box like this one appears. It'a little bit bothering, as I have to press the "Cancel" button to dismiss it: the account works fine, though, and it couldn't be different, as I have no idea of what to write in that dialog box.

My little sister constantly gets on my computer, which is fine, except for when she opens itunes. I have songs that are explicit and don't want her to listen to. Is there any way to have itunes require a password when clicked on in the dock, so that itunes would not open without my password. I realize that I could just log out each time or require the password when waking from sleep, but really itunes is the only app I don't want her opening.

My MacBook Pro (Late 2011) which is fully up to date, no longer boots up. The last thing I did was set a firmware password via Lion Recovery mode. After setting the password, I restarted the MacBook Pro, logged in, unbound the Mac from AD and OD, gave it a different computer name and chanegd the IP settings to DHCP. I shutdown the MacBook, plugged in a Firewire cable and turned it back on whilst holding down "T" to boot into Target Disk Mode.
The screen turned on for a second then suddenly turned off and the light on the front of the MacBook slowly pulses as if its in sleep mode. I've restarted the MacBook several times, with and without holding down any buttons and now it will not boot up properly. When you turn the MacBook on, you can hear the CDROM Drive/HDD moving - like it usually does but with no feedback on the screen. After the normal sounds have stopped the light on the front of the MacBook pulses as if its in sleep mode.

Think about this for a second: I only have the computer plugged in when in the house. I only need a password when not in the house. Is there a way to make it so that it only requires password to wake from screensaver or sleep when it runs of battery and not power? I know you can do this in windows 7 but I don't know about OSX.

For the last week or so I've been having an increasingly regular problem with Mail. Upon launching, the app opens a dialog window saying, "Mail can't connect to the Google account 'Gmail'. Enter the password for user (username)." Then when I enter the password, the app crashes. Sometimes clicking the "Cancel" botton allows the app to open, but sometimes that results in a crash as well. Also, when I can launch Mail successfully, sometimes when I try to send mail, the outgoing mail will sit in the Outbox unsent. Â
I've been getting these warnings with both my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. Until a few days ago I was using Yahoo as my primary account, but the inability to send mail caused me to switch to Gmail as my primary. After a couple days of smooth sailing, I'm now getting the same errors with my Gmail.

I use my iPad to access my work emails as it's easier on a bigger screen than the blackberry.
My IT guy at work said normally it doesn't work outside our approved accounts, except on the iPhone and iPad you can bypasss it by turning SSL off.
