OS X :: Scrolling Stutter On Webpage (Since RAM Upgrade)
Nov 19, 2009
So I have a MBP 5,1 and a couple of days ago I upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 4GB (this kit) and also upgraded from the stock 250GB 5400rpm to a 320GB 7200rpm (this drive). Every thing is working out good, its faster and more responsive but for some reason it hangs momentarily when I scroll down a web page, which is often, it hangs or sticks very briefly and then resumes scrolling again. It will do it at least once every web page and sometimes 2 or 3 times.
It sounds minor but its very aggravating when surfing and scrolling a lot. I use a wireless Logitech Nano VX mouse with one of those fly wheels that spins so pages scroll according to momentum of the spin so I thought that maybe its the mouse but it also does it when I use the 2 finger scroll on the touchpad. So it must be either the hard drive or the RAM. Also is there an OS X equivalent to memtest86+ and HD Tach, so I can run some diagnostics?
I had a Unibody Macbook, the newest rev. I decided to upgrade to a 13" MB Pro today at Microcenter for $999. Biggest reason was honestly I hated the white and I decided to not get a iMac but instead pair a 30" HPZR30 to the MB so went with the Pro for aesthetics and small processor bump. I took the Kingston SSD out of my MacBook and put it in the MB Pro, reset the PRAM/NVRAM and it boots right up. Everything works but for some reason the scrolling through a webpage using the pad is a bit jerky. Comparing it to my Macbook which I put the 250gb drive from the MB Pro in its perfectly smooth. I can reload the system if I need to but how is the scrolling on others '10 MB Pro's? I can tell a huge difference in the keyboard, its much more solid on the MB than on the MB Pro, I assume because they left some gap/spacing for the LED back lights.
I see they are using the same CPU and GPU, so I'll assume they are going to stutter watching video like the other MBA's do. I'd be curious what someone more technically inclined has to say after looking at the specs and hardware, or if the flash memory hard drive might help with that.
I don't know how to really describe this other than once my computer has been on for a while the mouse starts to stutter if I move it too fast and changing windows is slower. Clicks and moments are delayed as well. I have a dual-core Macbook pro with 8GB of ram so I'm guessing it's not that and when I keep the activity window open I see nothing really strange when it's happening. I've tried closing individual apps to see if it goes away but it doesn't.
On my Al macbook just recently when I hit Cmd-T to open a tab, safari starts to stutter, beach ball, and a distorted screen image (the size of the browser) appears for 3-5 seconds and the tab finally becomes available. what is going on here and how can I fix it? Never had a problem before and I'm using the latest Safari update.
After nph brought up his concerns about HD content on the Airs I went to the Apple Store to check it out for myself. I tried watching HD youtube videos on the highest end Air (rev B 1.8 ghz / 128 ssd) and on the lowest end Macbook and Pro. I let the videos fully load before watching them to eliminate variances in network lag. Please do the same if you wish to verify the results.
The MBA stuttered every few seconds throughout the video. The MB and MBP unibody machines were able to play the video without stutter. CPU use on the MBA fluctuated between about 130 - 170% while it was about 130 - 140% on the MB and MBP according to activity monitor. What are your results with rev A and rev B MBA machines on the following short HD video? Does it stutter for you or are you able to watch the full video without any stutter? What changes have you made compared to the stock install from the store? [URL]
I have a 2008 15" 2.4GHz unibody macbook pro with the Nvidia 9400 & 9600 GPU's. It works great, but i notice when playing 720p HD video in Quicktime X, the video is often kind of stuttery at first when i skip through the video, and sometimes beachballs. I am disappointed, because i often like to skip to certain parts in videos (especially TV Shows/Movies). It doesn't do this with smaller videos.
I only have 2GB of RAM. Do you think upgrading the RAM to atleast 4GB would help with this problem? I am on the 9600 with the "Higher Performance" option. Do you notice this at all?
I store my movies in itunes on an external drive connected to an airport extreme. The external HDD is LaCie 1TB. I get a "stutter" (for lack of better description) every minute and a half to two minutes during playback; very annoying. I am not sure if this affects anything but I increased streaming buffer size to large under advanced options with no positive effect.
I have a decent size music library(40+gig) on my late MB and i find that iTunes is slow to load when I open it and sometimes when im clicking around songs there is a half second pause before the song is highlighted and then starts to play. Since the program is pulling the info off the HD im thinking that if i got a higher capacity 7200 rpm drive that this would help (currently my stock 150gig only has 50gigs left) with this stutter or would upgrading to 4gig ram?
I have recently switched most of the company I work for from PC to Mac. I have been having reports that [URL] will not load most of the time and when it does there are no graphics.
I have checked this on three different machines all with 10.6.4 using Safari, Chrome, and FireFox (one 27" iMac, one new mini, and one 15" MBP). They all act the same. Either the site times out and is not loaded at all or it loads in really large blue fonts that are all squished to the left of the browser window. The main thing these machines have in common is that they all have Parallels installed with Windows 7 installed. Two have Parallels v5 and the iMac has v6.
Initially I thought it was our ISP, BUT if you try it on any other mac that does not have parallels installed the site works fine in all three browsers. Also if you launch a browser in windows inside Parallels the site loads up correctly.
All other sites that are visited seem to be working fine on these same machines.
I have checked DNS and all seems well. All machines on the network (PC and Mac) are using the same DNS servers. All PC's work fine regardless of the browser used.
I have just started using Rapidweaver and it seems quite good, but I am trying to widen the web page as the default setting is 500 and I would prefer it to be almost full screen?
I have tried doing to the page editor and changing the settings but when you look at the preview half the site just disappears. The actual size of the border does not seem to change.
I am trying to save some information from a webpage as a pdf. Usually this works for me but i am having problems. When i open the pdf file the sides are cut off. How can this be avoided?
I'm having an issue scrolling in all programs). Running 10.6.5, Late 2008 MBP (not uni-body). This happens when using two finger scroll or dragging the scroll bar down and up. Click (jump) to scroll is still fine.
It takes about 5-7 seconds to scroll down at all, it's like a little ripple slowly works its way down the screen. I tried shutting down programs, restarting, etc.
EDIT: Ok the click to scroll is now slow also. What gives?
This may sound like a newbie question but I've searched all over and couldn't find a thing. I'm starting to think it isn't possible to do so? Maybe someone here will come along and prove me wrong.
How do I remove a webpage (not a widget) from dashboard? I accidently added/saved a webpage to dashboard awhile ago, and don't remember what I did or how to undo it.
About 70 percent of the links I go to on google redirect me to myspace, which I don't even use or have a account. It has a message that says:"Oops, we couldn?t locate the page you are looking for. Here are a few things you can try:Search for what you're looking for in the box to the rightCheck out the links listed below Login to MySpace to take advantages of special features"
I use the webpage in question frequently - all other pages and email use ok. No problem with site - other sources confirm they can open it. Have cleared caches etc
I just bought my first macpro...i set it up in the office and everything seemed to work. When i got hom eben though the notebook is picking up a strong Internet signal safari cannot load any webpage?
I just installed 10.6.5 on my MacBook Pro 5,3, but in iTunes the two finger scolling does not go down, it goes down and right. So basically two finger scolling in iTunes is now scrolling to the bottom right while in -as far as I can see- the other applications scroll properly (=down). Anybody else experiencing this particular issue?
I've been using Safari 5.0.3 for a few months now, and I hate it! Before I updated (using Software Update) Safari was smooth and did not lag while scrolling or loading web pages. Now, almost all pages (including MacRumors Home) lags when scrolling and viewing.
I know this is going to sound strange, but my Mighty Mouse has been acting up recently. Put new batteries in it the other day, and now it won't scroll down a page. It will however, scroll up.
I use MBP (2,6G, 4Gb DDR2, Leopard 10.5.5), and I want to disable horizontal scrolling because it become annoying when I'm working with spreadsheet (always move right or left by it self....really annoying ). When I used Powerbook (1,5G, 1,25Gb DDR2, Tiger 10.4.11) there is an option to disable / enable this feature..it's great. But with this MBP and Leopard 10.5.5 there is no option for horizontal scrolling.
Is there a way here on the mac to just select one image file, have it blow up to full screen, and the just use the arrow keys to scroll through them like you can on windows? it is just a pain to have to select all of them, open it in preview, and them move around them that way.
