MacBook Air :: MBA's Stutter When Watching Video?

Oct 20, 2010

I see they are using the same CPU and GPU, so I'll assume they are going to stutter watching video like the other MBA's do. I'd be curious what someone more technically inclined has to say after looking at the specs and hardware, or if the flash memory hard drive might help with that.

MacBook Air :: Stutter On YouTube Video Every Few Seconds

Jan 18, 2009

After nph brought up his concerns about HD content on the Airs I went to the Apple Store to check it out for myself. I tried watching HD youtube videos on the highest end Air (rev B 1.8 ghz / 128 ssd) and on the lowest end Macbook and Pro. I let the videos fully load before watching them to eliminate variances in network lag. Please do the same if you wish to verify the results.

The MBA stuttered every few seconds throughout the video. The MB and MBP unibody machines were able to play the video without stutter. CPU use on the MBA fluctuated between about 130 - 170% while it was about 130 - 140% on the MB and MBP according to activity monitor. What are your results with rev A and rev B MBA machines on the following short HD video? Does it stutter for you or are you able to watch the full video without any stutter? What changes have you made compared to the stock install from the store? [URL]

MacBook Pro :: 720p Video Playback Stutter On 2008 UMBP

Dec 13, 2009

I have a 2008 15" 2.4GHz unibody macbook pro with the Nvidia 9400 & 9600 GPU's. It works great, but i notice when playing 720p HD video in Quicktime X, the video is often kind of stuttery at first when i skip through the video, and sometimes beachballs. I am disappointed, because i often like to skip to certain parts in videos (especially TV Shows/Movies). It doesn't do this with smaller videos.

I only have 2GB of RAM. Do you think upgrading the RAM to atleast 4GB would help with this problem? I am on the 9600 with the "Higher Performance" option. Do you notice this at all?

I get the standard desktop on the TV but I don't get my desktop or the Quicktime Player? Is there a function key that I press to toggle to my desktop?

MacBook Air :: MBA Too Slow For Video Watching?

Apr 1, 2008

I just got my air a few days ago, as a 2nd computer, a portable to go with my desktop. however I am finding that it is actually a bit too slow for my needs (i got the 1.6/80gb), even as a secondary computer.

I kinda wanted to use the air as my appletv device - to watch all the things I've downloaded on my desktop on my HDTV, which is in another room.

Loading up youtube and flash heavy sites seems to make the fan speed up to full blast. Watching divx movies also makes it spin up to max.

Some video files (notably RMVB real player files) play very jerkily and result in dropped frames, but usually the audio is alright.

All in all, quite disappointing as its a nice little machine otherwise. Just the dropped video frames and fan spinning up to max to watch files is kinda hard to live with. Anyone else finding this with their air?

MacBook Pro :: GPU For Watching 720p/1080p Video?

May 28, 2010

Which one better handles HD video, the dedicated Intel HD or the nVidia 330M?

I watch a lot of HD video on my i5 and it mostly handles it without a hiccup but on occasion there is some slight stuttering when there is fast motion (with 1080p, the 720p stuff is handled well)...I think the default chip for most video is the Intel HD but I would think the nVidia would better handle these bigger files...any thoughts?

(of course with battery use I know the nVidia is a resourse/energy hog)

From what I have heard, this upgrade still wont support full 1080 right? will there be a big difference playing 720p on this upgraded screen vs. a non upgraded screen?

MacBook Air :: Freezes When Watching A Video - OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Sep 3, 2014

I got a brand new Macbook Air yesterday, and everything was working wonderfully. Now, I noticed when I go onto Youtube the computer freezes for about 5-10 seconds as soon as the page loads. This just started happening about an hour or 2 ago. This is also happening when I'm listening to iTunes radio, and an advertisement commercial comes on. If the advertisement plays a video, and iTunes is maximized on my screen my screen will freeze for about 5-10 seconds.

I am brand new to using a Mac so I don't know where anything is or how to use it 100% yet.

MacBook Pro :: Watching Youtube Video In Full Screen?

May 12, 2010

was wondering if when your watching a youtube video or anything that makes the nvidia 330m kick in do you experience a lag when hitting the full screen button? I have the graphics switcher/indicator program installed and whenever I go to full screen it goes from intel to nvidia and there is a good 1-2 second delay from clicking the button to going to full screen. If I force 330m to be on at all times the lag goes away. This seem normal? You would think Apple would have ironed out this kink. It makes my computer go from feeling snappy to slow when my netbook can full screen faster.

MacBook Pro :: Lines Appearing On Screen (Watching Video)

May 23, 2010

I have an older MacBook Pro (1,1 first gen, Intel Core Duo, 2006). It's slowly dying, I think. What I'm wondering about are these lines that are appearing/disappearing on the screen. I think it may be a sign that the video card is going out. The lines are horizontal bands that appear often when I'm watching video. Occasionally they'll appear while scrolling or loading a webpage. They're usually quite thin, although it does appear to be getting worse. Does anyone know what this would be? Is it safe to assume a dead logic board is in my future? I videotaped it occurring here, in case you're interested (17 sec).

MacBook Pro :: Dual Display / Watching Full Screen Video?

I have a Samsung 2033SW hooked up to my mac and whenever I play video full-screen on on screen (either the laptop or the samsung), the other screen blacks out. This happens whether I use VLC, RealPlayer or Quicktime. How do I set it up so that I can play full-screen video on one and still be able to use the other screen for other stuff?

I'm pretty sure it's not because there aren't enough resources because I can still play "fit-to-screen" on one screen and still have access to the other screen.

MacBook :: Firefox Shut Down While Watching Video - Screen Went Black

May 18, 2010

I have a last gen. white macbook. I was watching a youtube video today and firefox shut down. When it restarted it shutdown again. I decided to restart my computer. When it was restarting, a message popped up saying I needed to restart by holding down the power button. After pushing the power button the screen went black. I then pushed the power button again and my computer made this horrible beeping noise until I pressed the power button again. In doing this process more than once the mac start up "chord Bing" happened over and over until I pressed the power button. I got the comp turned off and let it sit for an hour or so. It started up fine. I downloaded google chrome and when trying to change some settings the "restart your comp by holding down the power button" message came up. When restarting the crazy beep came back. Now everything seems fine but while typing the comp made the noise like it wants to eject a cd.

MacBook :: Snow Leopard Causing Loud Fan Noise When Watching Video?

Jul 16, 2010

Are others experiencing this? I'm having issue getting a good solid answer after googling for quite a while. Some of the threads I have read also lead to no end result.

When I watch any videos, no matter what it is, after about 2 minutes my black macbook heats up and then run at fan speeds of 3600-4800rpm and it's super annoying and hot. As soon as I turn off the video, it cools down back to 1800 RPM and runs at 62 degrees. Sooooo odd.

I went to the genius bar and the guy there said that it is probably due to the fact that Snow Leopard takes advantage of the dual-core processor. I don't understand why it needs to utilize this processor where as it never had an issue on leopard before I upgraded.

I've also read that reloading the OS doesn't seem to help. Is this a common issue? Should I go back to Leopard?

I've only noticed that expose` is a little bit fancier on SL but other than that, I do not notice much of anything that is different.

Hardware :: Video Capture / Watching On Mac?

Is there *anything* that can do this on the mac?

Software :: Watching Video Without Audio?

Jul 21, 2006

I recently have experienced trouble trying to watch online videos. QuickTime (.mov) correctly plays videos with sound, in the other hand Flash, Real-Player (.rm) or Windows Media (.wmv) videos are played with absolutely no audio. I first noticed problems trying to watch videos at CNN, so I tested different web-pages, like You-Tube, and alternative file formats, but no success. Later I tried to open the videos' URLs directly through the players, assuming that Safari was my problem... still no sound. I also frequently listen to iTunes, yet I quit the application before watching other media.

I am running:
- Mac OS X 10.4.7
- Safari 2.0.4 (419.3)
- iTunes 6.0.5 (20)
- QuickTime Player 7.1.2

I currently have (that I know of):
- Flip4Mac WMV 2
- Windows Media Player 9
- Real-Player 10.0.0 (331)
- DivX Player 1.0.3
- VLC Media Player 0.8.5
- Audacity 1.2.4

I checked my System Preferences, all players' volume sliders and mute check-boxes, and I have no idea on what is happening.

MacBook Pro :: MacBook Pro Very Hot When Watching YouTube Video

Dec 27, 2009

in October 2008 I bought my MacBook Pro Unibody (Details in my signature).

Since about 3-4 month is gets REALLY hot really fast, also the fan is very noisy now.
Now I can have my MacBook turned off for the whole day, then turn it on, watch a YouTube video and the fan is going nuts and it gets really hot.

I made sure that the MacBook is on a flat surface, like a desk, but it still gets very hot. I can't even have the laptop on my lap anymore or else I would get burned through my jeans.
Another problem is, that the fan is so loud, when I use my internal microphone with skype, people say they can't hear me cause of the noise!

When I touch the surface of the laptop around the ESC keep, I think I could actually cook an egg!

Here's a screen shot of the tempratures after booting up and watching YouTube for about 2 minutes.

The temprature goes above 80 Degress as well, depending if its on my lap or the desk. And yes I made sure that the back of the laptop is not covered.
