OS X :: Safari Quit After Glims Install

Aug 13, 2009

I've been using FireFox for months now, but wanted to give Safari another shot. Checking out some add-ons, I found Glims. I wanted it to change my search engine bar to Bing, instead of Google. I got it, installed it, and was prompted to restart Safari. I did, but now it won't open. I get this message. I tried uninstalling Safari and downloading a new copy, and that did nothing. I still get the same message. Any thoughts? Went to Home/Library/Input Managers and found a "Glims" folder. I trashed that and now it works fine, sans cookies and bookmarks.

Applications :: Safari Without Glims And Adblock?

Apr 12, 2009

I just reinstalled Leopard on my Mac after Finder kept acting weird and during the re installation of my apps I started using Safari 4 without any input managers or plugins. I was going to install them but I'm now not so sure. Safari feels quite better. Even a page full of ads feels like it actually appears faster after I click it's link. Do these things actually bog Safari down a little or am I probably imagining it due to having a fresh install? It would seem silly that blocking ads would take as long or even longer than just showing them.

Applications :: Safari 5 - Lost Glims Facility Of Forcing Completion Of Reluctant Web Sites

Jun 9, 2010

Since installing Safari 5, everything seems to be slow. I have also 'lost' the "Glims" facility of forcing the completion of reluctant web-sites. Is it simply an impression, or is the new Safari slower? It seems to get so far with the address-bar and then think about it.

OS X :: GLIMS Fix For No Preferences Menu

Aug 30, 2009

In 10.6 Snow Leopard on Safari 4, the menu is there, you just can't see it. The text has no color. By sheer luck I was reaching down under my desk to grab something and looked up to see the GLIMS preference panel I had left open, then an outline of text. It turns out that if you tilt your monitor back you can indeed see the GLIMS preference panel text outline enough to navigate and get it set up the way you want. Perhaps changing the contrast or something will help as well. Either way, the menu is indeed there.

Safari :: Why Does It Restart When Quit

Mar 28, 2012

Anytime I quit Safari, it starts up again. If I quit it a second time, it will stay dead and won't restart itself. This includes when I am trying to restart my Mac; Safari and everything else quits, but then Safari immediately re-opens and cancels the restart (or shut down). I have to quit Safari a second time and then initiate the restart again. Why is this happening? Why might it happen with ANY app? I'm afraid it's due to something I did/installed to keep Safari alive, but I can't figure out what that might be or how to make this stop. I'm currently using Safari 5.1.4?

OS X :: Typing A Backslash Sometimes Causes Safari To Quit?

Oct 12, 2009

I have hit the key accidently instead of return and poof, Safari quits unexpectedly. Forward slashes are no problem but Backslashes cause an instant quit. It doesn't happen all the time, but just today I hit the key accidently and Safari quit. I reloaded it up again and the first thing I did was type a backslash. Again instant quit. Upon trying it again, it didn't quit.

The Backslash must be typed in the Google search box to cause the sudden quit.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Safari Unable To Quit

Feb 2, 2012

I got my new Office Mac, and I was hoping to install it. It said Firefox and Safari needed to close. Firefox was a snap (good job guys!), but Safari is doing HORRIBLE. I can't install my Mac Office 2011, and THAT on the other hand stinks, because I need it for school projects.

When I shut down this Mac, sometimes Safari quits cleanly, but mostly it doesn't. All Safari's windows close but the app itself doesn't. Checking the Safari menu the Quit command is greyed out whereas formerly it wasn't. At this point my workaround is to Force Quit Safari.

Safari Won't Open Or Quit And Cannot Shut Down

Mar 28, 2012

I have a 3 mo.old MacbookPro - OS X Lion 10.7.3 . Safari suddenly won't open or quit. I can't Shut Down; when I try I get an error message indicating Safari must quit first.  I use computer for just the basics -- web surfing, email, i-tunes, and just a few Word documents saved. So I still have most of my memory yet available, and have very few applications installed. Is there a simple solution to fix this and prevent it in the future.  So far I am not enjoying my switch from PC to Mac.  I have had far too many of these random, complicated glitches which seem to require an advanced degree in computer software to solve.
