OS X :: Glims And Safari 4 Search Engines?
Feb 27, 2009So it's great they fixed Glims so quickly for Safari 4, but I can't get it to work with the added search engines thing. Anyone else having this issue? Any idea how to fix it?

Nov 21, 2009I was trying to add a Glims custom search engine for MacRumors forums. However, the search URL doesn't actually have the search terms in it, it comes up as [URL:...] with a string of numbers at the end. As a result, the standard Glims method of making new engines doesn't work. Does anyone know of a way to make this work?

I would be able to simply start typing a word and it would be highlighted on the page that was present on safari, so I could search for the word without having to read the entire page for a word, phrase or paragraph of information I was looking for?

Apr 12, 2009I just reinstalled Leopard on my Mac after Finder kept acting weird and during the re installation of my apps I started using Safari 4 without any input managers or plugins. I was going to install them but I'm now not so sure. Safari feels quite better. Even a page full of ads feels like it actually appears faster after I click it's link. Do these things actually bog Safari down a little or am I probably imagining it due to having a fresh install? It would seem silly that blocking ads would take as long or even longer than just showing them.

Aug 13, 2009I've been using FireFox for months now, but wanted to give Safari another shot. Checking out some add-ons, I found Glims. I wanted it to change my search engine bar to Bing, instead of Google. I got it, installed it, and was prompted to restart Safari. I did, but now it won't open. I get this message. I tried uninstalling Safari and downloading a new copy, and that did nothing. I still get the same message. Any thoughts? Went to Home/Library/Input Managers and found a "Glims" folder. I trashed that and now it works fine, sans cookies and bookmarks.

Aug 30, 2009In 10.6 Snow Leopard on Safari 4, the menu is there, you just can't see it. The text has no color. By sheer luck I was reaching down under my desk to grab something and looked up to see the GLIMS preference panel I had left open, then an outline of text. It turns out that if you tilt your monitor back you can indeed see the GLIMS preference panel text outline enough to navigate and get it set up the way you want. Perhaps changing the contrast or something will help as well. Either way, the menu is indeed there.

Mar 9, 2012I only have the address bar now. When I open Safari it looks for a second as if everythings normal (search bar appears), and then it dissapears suddenly and only the Address field remains in it's place. (it takes up the whole screen now) I tried resetting safari, deleting extensions, repairing permissions and emptying the cache. Still can't see the search bar. Do I have to uninstall/reinstall Safari? The rest of the browsing experience is fine.

The only trouble I am having is getting google search results in Safari to open in another tab, instead of the same window, or a new window. Anyone else see this, or have a way to make this work? I like to click on a google link, and have it open in a new tab.

Set the main window's view mode to List (middle button in toolbar)
Navigate into (by clicking the 'reveal' triangles) Window � Content View, and you'll see two Split View entries. Open each of those, and you'll see a Custom View and a Web Search Field. Delete the Web Search Field from both Split View entries. (Just select them and press Delete.)

Jun 12, 2012Ever since I upgraded to 10.7.4 I've had some major annoyances rear their heads with my 2011 iMac. The issue I'm looking for help with, though it may seem small, is with the Safari search bar. I know there have been discussions before about this and I've always had a difficult relationship with the search bar as it is supposed to change to your 'local' search engine, e.g. for me that would be Google UK, yet it has often defaulted to Google US which means that searches can be a little less relevant at times. Anyway, for months things have been fine. The search bar defaulted to Google UK until the 10.7.4 update hit... All of a sudden my Google search bar now defaults to Google.com in GREEK...
Since I don't speak a word of Greek, I'm sure you can see how this has become an issue. I've tried all manner of things, resetting safari, changing language settings but have been unable to get it to change back. I tried changing to Bing search but to be honest, Google search in Greek is a **** of a lot more useful than Bing in English is, which I think says a lot. I did have greek as a secondary keyboard layout so that I could use the greek characters for my physics work but UK English has always been my default and I have since removed Greek yet the search bar stays the same. It's really becoming irritating now as every time I search it sets my whole Google experience to Greek with a cookie so any google.com service I use ends up in Greek and it's a pain to reset it.

In Firefox this opens a new tab but with Safari it uses the current tab which messes with the flow of my work.
