When I shut down this Mac, sometimes Safari quits cleanly, but mostly it doesn't. All Safari's windows close but the app itself doesn't. Checking the Safari menu the Quit command is greyed out whereas formerly it wasn't. At this point my workaround is to Force Quit Safari.
Lion 10.7.3 on a Mac Mini and Safari 5.1.3.
Safari extensions in use: Ad Block, 1Password, Click to Flash.
Info:
Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM
Every time I try to hit command Q to exit safari, it doesn't work. I can't quit safari so my computer won't shut down. I also can't quit added tabs when I'm in safari anymore.
I was deleting items of my external drive through MacBook keeper and when I went to shut down Safari (which was open) stopped the shutdown process. So in the end I force quit the computer. When it came to restarting I get the usula apple symbol and sound when start up begins but there it stops. The spoked wheel just keeps spinning below the Apple Symbol.
When I click "shutdown" on my MacBook PRO, I get a popup saying "Safari Cancelled Shutdown" then if I try to close Safari the "Quit Safari" is gray and none functional. Even if I let it set for several hours and try again it has not resolved. If I hold down the power button and force shutdown, then when I reboot it works fine for awhile then repeats the whole cycle. All software is updated.
My mac is suddenly very slow . I have been just putting it to sleep. I decided to shut it down, but Safari won't quit. When I go to File, the "Quit Safari" is greyed out. I also tried "Command Z" but that doesn't work either.
It does everything properly while I'm working with it but then refuses to fully quit and I can't reopen it or shut down or sleep the computer. I end up having to manually shut down and restart each time. I'm running Yosemite on a quad core xeon Mac Pro. I've tried trashing the preferences and closing all libraries but it seems to have no impact.Â
Is there any way to go about dealing with an application that has frozen (or results in the spinning of the 'beachball of death')...and then to top things off, decides to prevent you from force-quitting it as well!! Not being able to force-quit a stuck App is a major problem, because it means that I can then not log-out, restart or shutdown my computer...inevitably, my only option is to hold down the power button on my machine to force-shutdown!

Every time I want to shut down my late 2011 MacBook Pro, Mac Mail cancels the shut down & I have to force quit mail. I was having this problem on my old 2008 MacBook before I upgraded to the Pro (but it only started after I upgraded to Lion OSX). So what's wrong w/ Mac Mail? And is there some setting I can change? This is an annoying time suck.Â
I always quit out of all apps before doing a shutdown. I make sure that nothing, except Finder, is running when i shutdown. And, I do a full shutdown, not just sleep. Â
Yet, occasionally, the apps that were running before I quit out of them will restart when I turn the MacBook back on.Â
so I've had my MacBook for over a year, and I've never had any issues like this before. On my personal account, Safari, FireFox, Opera, and the like cannot access [URL], [URL](or any variation that leads to the same site), any other Google-based websites, my school's online gradebook, nor will it allow me to log into my Yahoo! account, though i can still search on yahoo. I can use the Google search bar at the top of my safari window just fine, but not [URL], as mentioned before.
I have set my Safari Preferences originally to block cookies from advertisers and third parties, but it ignores that setting. Finally, I set it to block all cookies. It also ignores that setting. Is there any way to have Safari recognize it's own preference settings? By the way, I had to use Firefox to sign on here at the Apple Website today. Safari no longers seems to work with the Apple discussion site. Very odd.
I decided to reset Safari because occasionally I get beachballs. I also deleted the caches on my MBP. Now when I open Safari, the window pops up but then I get a never ending beachball. Do I have to now uninstall Safari and reinstall it from the Apple website?
I have ClickToFlash installed and recently I went to YouTube and attempted to view a video but all i got was a very ropey looking 'go upgrade' message instead of the video. If I click on it it takes me to Adobe site to update Flash. I updated but still no videos. I put YouTube on the Whitelist in clicktoflash but i still get the upgrade flash message. Does anyone else know what may be causing the problem? Lastest Flash, Click2Flash, Safari and SnowLeopard.
I have no internet issues anywhere else, just cannot load facebook, gmail, or google search. This has been going on for a few weeks. NEVER had the problem before, and no other computers in the house have any issues at all, but this is our only apple.....
What is the problem between Safari 5.1.7 and hotmail? I can't quit safari while the hotmail window is open. I can close Safari from all other websites.
Info:Mac OS X (10.7.2), Same OS on my iMac and MacBookPro
my macbook pro won't turn off what shall i do maybe above 1 week I didn't turn off it. All the programs work with me but only safari doesn't work also i can't close it if I started to shutdown it some small box told me error in the application please close safari etc
Anytime I quit Safari, it starts up again. If I quit it a second time, it will stay dead and won't restart itself. This includes when I am trying to restart my Mac; Safari and everything else quits, but then Safari immediately re-opens and cancels the restart (or shut down). I have to quit Safari a second time and then initiate the restart again. Why is this happening? Why might it happen with ANY app? I'm afraid it's due to something I did/installed to keep Safari alive, but I can't figure out what that might be or how to make this stop. I'm currently using Safari 5.1.4?
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3), 3,1; Hi-Res Disp; 4GB RAM; 500GB HD
I am unable to quit Safari on my Mac. The option is not highlighted on the drop down in the top left hand corner and when I try and quit from the Safari App in the dock this does not work. As a result I cannot shut down my computer or download new software updates.
I am trying to quit my safari but it won't do it.. The only response I get is the one of closing the window. I can't shut down my computer or restart it because of this.
Safari doesn't ask "are you sure you want to quit 2 pages?" How do you get that back? Because when im working on an application for instance and I accidentally command+Q another safari page instead of command+W, it all quits and when I relaunch all my information is gone.
I run Safari 5.0.3 on a Windows 7. Recently, Safari has started to have long term memory loss. Every time Safari is closed and then opened again - i.e. when I start up my computer, when the application crashes, or when I reopen Safari - I have to log in again to all of my accounts. Prior to this week, Safari had never had a problem with keeping me logged in before. I have enough accounts and enough variations of username/password combos that this is thoroughly annoying. To specify, Safari can remember within a session - I'm free to open and close tabs as much as I want - but as soon as I close out of the application entirely, I must log in to everything again.Â
I have cookies enabled and I always click "remember me" when available, but Safari refuses to remember. I don't typically use AutoFill, but that didn't seem to matter before.
