View 1 Repliesi have to get a wireless Wifi card or wireless USB stick for my 2.5 Quad G5 Tower. What are the best options for me? Should i get a USB wireless stick from OWC or should i get an internal Wifi Card? Can i use the latest PCI Express Extreme WiFi card on an old G5 Tower?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI need some help/suggestions as to why my G5 tower won't connect to a wireless network. I recently moved into a guest house with free wireless internet. My landlord gave me the password to tap in, and it works great on my netbook, which is what I am using to post this entry. It also works with my iPod Touch. However, my G5 times out every time I try. It recognizes the network and when I type in the password, it tries to join it and after a few moments it says "connection timed out"
Why is this happening? I'm up to date on software/hardware updates. I've even tried shutting down my netbook to see if that was the reason it wasn't connecting, but nope. Still doesn't connect.I like my netbook and internet browsing is speedy on it but I need my desktop for most of my work and internet productivity.
while the drive in my macbook pro a few years ago was just plain terrible, i've had no issues with the one in my 24" imac. however, i'm looking to burn some audio cd's for my little record label.
so how good is the cd burning capability? i've made some discs in the past, when i was still using a PC and i bought a very high quality external burner for $80 or so canadian, and when i checked the errors it was comparable to a pressed cd. unlike the homemade ones i used to do before that didn't play on some systems.
i'm looking for a cheap way to do batches of twenty or so discs that will play on everybody's computers and cd players. however since most people these days rip them to mp3, i don't want to make a big investment. i will however be buying high quality cd-r stock and printing attractive images to the tops.
Is it possible to install 4 SATA drives into a G5 tower? I didn't open it up yet cause I have to move so much material to get to it. I'm assuming you can purchased a SATA PCI card but is there room in the case for 2 additional drives?

Have a Power Mac G4 MDD - Apple genius bar looked at it and told me probably need a new power supply (shutting down at will and having trouble powering up but before that the computer was running well) and I'm not sure if I should get a used or new one on ebay or if you have a better idea. Can't afford a whole new system so want to resurrect this one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just saw a 17" iMac on ebay that said it has a TOUCHSCREEN. It claims "the monitor is also a TOUCHSCREEN monitor where you can simply push the screen with your finger to run commands".
Is this true?
And if so should I consider this?
Is it slow, compared to new model?
Is possible to just swap the 500g hard drive into the G5 Power Tower instead of cloning the hard drive - Both PPC ?

I received a new iMac about 2 weeks ago, and I'd like to know how long the battery is suppose to roughly last for the keyboard and magic mouse. When I installed iStat Pro widget, it showed the battery power for my mouse, but the keyboard has never showed up. My mouse has been steadily losing battery power and is now at 28%. However, bluetooth states the power to my keyboard is 100%. This doesn't seem correct.
One other thing I've noticed in the bluetooth menu, under devices, is that the keyboard is labeled as "Apple Wireless Keyboard", while the mouse is title's my name's mouse (I.e.: "Darkroom's Mouse"). This may just nothing, but I'm assuming it's another symptom of my keyboard not being fully read by the OS.
i loaded wireless software onto my i mac and after restarting it wont open up to the desk top the timer just goes round and round.
View 13 Replies View RelatedDesperate to replace my now too old G5 power Mac, I decided to order a new 27in i mac. I was cheerfully informed by the assistant in my local mac shop that I would have to wait six weeks or so and he would put me on a waiting list. I felt this was unreasonable and thought I had found a clever plan to get something better. So I bought a new 24in display, attached it to my newish laptop and away we went. After a short while I found the whole experience a little lumpywith six connections every time I wanted to take the laptop home. I bought a used power Mac instead, an intel duel 2.66 power mac. I have found out today that according to Apple that there is no connection to be made from the mac to the display, I am gutted and fed up. The display has a bunch of cables coming out, only one choice, mini DV1. The computer has DVI. No adapter is available apparently. Anyone have any suggestions apart from spending nearly ?300 on a Radeon 4870
View 11 Replies View RelatedBasically I want to connect my Win7 PC tower to my 27" iMac. After doing some research, is it true that only the ATI 4890 and ATI 5970 are the only video cards that have worked in the past? The newer 5870 Eyefinity 6 just got released and seems to be a bit cheaper than the 5970, seems to be untested still. Has anyone got this to work with the cheaper ATI cards with displayport? I don't want to spend more than $600 for this new venture.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried making a thread in the buying advice forum which only garnered one response, so I figured this forum would be of more help since it appears more frequented and the visitors would be more specific in their knowledge. I can also be a bit more precise in terms of questions. I have a 13" MacBook from late 2006, which I believe was the very first line they came out with. It's running a 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM (personally upgraded; that's also a lot of twos). It's been a good machine and I've had it for three and a half years now; AppleCare has run out and it's already starting to show wear from when I had the casing replaced for a second time (that wristpad plastic still cracks no matter what Apple does to fix it) as well as the fans and logic board when it was showing issues. The machine is old, though, and going on four years doesn't have as much processing power as I'd like.
I'm not a real power user any more. I gave up trying to learn about all those things like Linux and programming in my mid-teens and now I'm just in my early 20s and more of a writer and casual gamer sort. I don't play anything more graphically intensive than WoW, or perhaps StarCraft 2 when it goes retail. I own a perhaps three year old desktop now that belonged to my friend, but was given to me when he replaced it not long ago. It runs most of these games pretty well, so I do have the option of using that machine if I need to. My question is if the power of the new machines -- the 13" in particular -- is enough to do what I want them to do while still making me feel like I've made a substantial upgrade for what I've paid. I know the base MBP is running a C2D. It's faster than what I have, but I don't know how much faster, and I imagine that the i5 in the 15" is likely far superior. I also can't really get a definite opinion on the power of the 320M which is also in the baseline MacBook. Either way, if I upgraded, it would be to the MBP solely because of the ligher, higher quality aluminum enclosure. I just don't know if I should shell out $500 more for the 15", for the reasons above. Thank you in advance for any opinions you might have.

There are hours and hours of talks and I'm looking for software that will help make my job easier. OS X comes with some very good text to speech capabilities. Is there any capability to do speech to text on OS X? It would be great if there were free/cheap shareware products that do this task.

The older one will be for her children's use, and she and her husband will use the new one. Now for the problem. The old iMac doesn't have an Airport card; one would have to be added in order for both iMacs to have internet access.
1. Where can they find an airport card for this iMac?
2. Where can I find instructions for adding this card to the iMac?
So My name is Lindsey and I have been an avid apple supporter. However in the last two weeks I've come extremely close to selling everything apple I own and going back to windows. I purchased a refurbished Intel Imac through the apple store about 4 months ago. Awesome computer, everything worked great. Well I recently decided to add an additional monitor so of course I started browsing the forums and did my due diligence. I read that there were some compatibility issues with some of the older imacs and the apple 24 in led display so naturally I called my nearest apple store to find out if I could use this display.
The sales associate listened as I explained that I had a 2008 intel Imac and assured my the display would work without an adapter. Of course you guys know this is totally wrong but I was unaware of this fact at the time. SO I drove a 6 hour round trip to Dallas and paid 970 in cash for my new monitory. Get it home and realize that something is obv wrong. I call the store back and the clerk tells me I need an adapter that can be bought at Best Buy. I drive 45 min to best buy. They are sold out. Next day I drive an hour and a half to the next closest Best Buy. They dont have it either..............................
To cut a long story short I have a CSV Excel Databse of email addresses that I would like to email. I follow the instructions to import them into The Address Book in order to add them to my contacts but keep getting the following message. The file you selected does not appear to be a valid comma separated values (csv) file nor a valid tab delimited file, please choose another file. Is their something I am missing? In the excel file I have saved the file as CSV, there is just one column of approx 1000 email addresses. I then go to address book, file, import text file and can select the file I want. Then the error message appears. Is there any other way of doing this? Presume web mail providers wont have an import capability?
