View 2 Repliesim looking to get one of those new(er) 24inch apple displays and it says it connects with a mini displayport connector which is in the newest revision of the macbooks. problem is, I have one of the "older" white macbooks, which doesn't have this connection. what can i do ? is there a converter available?

My brand new 15 inch MacBook Pro was working fine for a week. Today the display went to sleep and when I tried to wake it, it remained dark, items barely visible. I could see the display brightness meter changing, but the brightness did not. Restarting didn't help. Called Apple and they're going to replace the computer. Has this happened to anybody else? Note: I have the hi-res anti-glare display.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDesperate to replace my now too old G5 power Mac, I decided to order a new 27in i mac. I was cheerfully informed by the assistant in my local mac shop that I would have to wait six weeks or so and he would put me on a waiting list. I felt this was unreasonable and thought I had found a clever plan to get something better. So I bought a new 24in display, attached it to my newish laptop and away we went. After a short while I found the whole experience a little lumpywith six connections every time I wanted to take the laptop home. I bought a used power Mac instead, an intel duel 2.66 power mac. I have found out today that according to Apple that there is no connection to be made from the mac to the display, I am gutted and fed up. The display has a bunch of cables coming out, only one choice, mini DV1. The computer has DVI. No adapter is available apparently. Anyone have any suggestions apart from spending nearly ?300 on a Radeon 4870

so i am REALLY new to all this monitor stuff. I have always had "package deals" where I never really needed to worry about the connections on my monitors working.. or i've had imacs. Anyways.. i have a MBP that I would LIKE to have hooked up to an older Apple Studio Monitor. Now, I know that the MBP video card does NOT supply power to the monitor, and that this monitor NEEDS power to come from that cable (the monitor does not have a separate power plug) So i know i need some type of converter that will send power to my monitor.. WHAT IS THIS CABLE??
I have read about the AT-DP200 but the more i read, the more confused I get.. At first i thought it was right.. but then im starting to think this does the opposite.. that its for older computers and newer monitors. or is THIS what i need? I DONT KNOW!! Please point me in the right direction.. I just need to know what will work.. I REALLY want to get this set up..
Now that Apple has released Macs capable of putting out audio over HDMI (via Mini-Displayport) I was wondering if there is a hack to do this on older MacBooks. Certainly this is software based.
I remember a little pref pane that allowed two-finger scrolling on iBooks--hoping the same type of thing exists for audio over HDMI.
I cannot get Airplay to work on an older MacBook, ca. 2007, even though I recently had Apple install a new hard drive, 4 Gigs of RAM, and Lion OS X 10.7.4.Â

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to hook a MacBook Pro to an older Sony TV that has an s-video or composite video port available. I prefer the s-video because the quality will be better while playing movies. On my older MacBook Pro I use a DVI to Video adapter that apple produces. With the new MacBook Pro's apple doesn't make a mini displayport to video adapter. What do you recommend I do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 23" cinema display from November of 2006. Is this compatible with my newer MacBook Pro, which is from June 2009. It's not the most recent MBP - I bought it just before they refreshed the line a week or two later. If the display will work, which adapter do I need? Micro DVI? Mini DisplayPort?

All I want to know is, apart from the obvious 1 or 2TB of space available in the new versions is there any other differences? Both are 802.11n and are dual band. What I have noticed thought is that there are refinements which allow it to be backed up 75% faster than the previous generation and it says there is a 50% better performance over Wifi with 25% greater range?
How is this possible if they are both 802.11n? Also Is this true even when connecting via Ethernet? In terms of when I backup over Ethernet will it be 75% more faster? It'll be on my desk so I don't really care about the wireless capabilities. Lastly, will it work with my network, please click on this link as it explains my setup.

So just to reiterate, will I notice a difference in back up speeds when connected via Ethernet between the two versions. I'm getting it quite cheap, for about $50 Brand New sealed.
I live and die by my mailbox, I'd been using MS Outlook but it was fraught with too many bugs. A few months ago I decided to switch to Apple Mail as a lesser of two evils. I saw the demo for Apple Mail on Yosemite and it looks like a very robust program. However for now, I still find Apple Mail limiting especially with Exchange services.. but I digress.Â
I archive all my mail and rely heavily on the "search" feature. I recently started to notice messages I was searching for were missing. Initially I wrote this off to user error, however today I looked in my Sent folder and my Archive folder to find that there was only 30 days worth of mail?! I began to panic as I logged into my Office 365 webmail, but found relief in that all my messages were still there. The issue seems to be that Apple Mail is not keeping or displaying messages older then roughly 30 days. I've been using Apple mail for almost three months, so these messages should be there. Â

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Apple Mail keeps quitting when I try to open a email with an attachment. All other mail opens normally. It started recently and with photos from family and now I can't open older emails w/ attachments either. I can go to my gmail account and open there.
I downloaded the latest combo update from Apple's website, but nothing changed.
I recently did a Time Machine complete system restore and I noticed that the contents of some of the storage folders in Apple Mail were empty. Interestingly, folders that have been accessed in the last few months were completely restored, but some much older files that have not been accessed in a considerable amount of time were totally empty. I'm not sure why that occurred, but is there a way to find and restore the contests of those older folders?
View 14 Replies View RelatedHey everyone, I searched first, but all I found was threads on the ACD's, and displays running $900+.
I'm looking for a display for my mid 2010 13" MBP. I currently have my MBP and a windows Desktop, but having two computers is more of a hassle than it needs to be when I can just set up a desktop station/dock.
I currently have a 20" monitor, but I want something bigger. I'm looking at 27" monitors. The ACD is way out of my budget (college budget), along with the Dell U2711, and other monitors.
I would like to stay around $300ish for just the monitor. I'm thinking I should get a LED display.
So the question is, whats a great monitor that you would recommend thats moderately priced ($300) thats 27"?
I'm trying to hook it up to a late-2011 MBP. So far it isn't working (can't get into Target Mode) and I'm just wondering if anyone out there has found a hack that doesn't involve VNC.

I can sort most issues and using Macs don't really have any but I'm stuck on this one and Applecare, being Sunday, is only accepting phone calls about iPhone at present.I have a brand new 2010 MacBook Pro 13" (2.66 GHz - yes I know I'm a sucker for the extra MHz) and am having some strange issues with video and the display.whilst watching a video in full screen. At first I thought it was the file, but it happens with numerous files (not DVD though) and whether played in QT or VLC or Front Row. That picture was taken in Front Row and please excuse the iPhone shot but I couldn't make Grab work.

I want to buy the 27" iMac - but only if I can use it as external monitor for my Lenovo laptop when working from home. A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). The laptop also has a displayport.

I know there are a couple of topics around here about this, but none of them are very clear.
So, I'm looking for a mini displayport to HDMI adapter that supports sound. No extra USB or 3,5mm jack for sound.
It also would be nice if the product was available in Europe (Netherlands) otherwise the shipping cost are just too high.
