OS X :: Power Out Caused Itunes Library To Delete?
Feb 16, 2009
The other day the electricity to the house was turned off with Itunes running on my computer. Im running a G5 Mac OSX version 10.4.11 if that helps. When i turned the computer back on it read itunes library corrupt and the only option it gave was to press 'OK'.
Out of 8000 or so songs, 3000 remain in the library. There are some songs on the hard drive under 'Music' which is some of the missing songs but not sure if its all of them
My question is, is there any way possible way to restore my itunes library back to its state prior to the power out? restoring all playlists and everything!
So the power cord coming out of the AC adapter to the Magsafe melted and almost started a fire. There is about an inch selection where all I can see now is the metal wiring underneith, all the insulation is off. Is this covered under AppleCare? Since it was smoking and almost caused a fire, would this have harmed my MacBook Pro? I'm lucky that when I returned home nothing was damaged. How do I document this? What's protocol on issues such as this? This has never happened to me before.
My iTunes was freezing at the beginning after I have tried to load some mp3 files.I got an advice to click "option" with the iTunes icon and I could build a new library. Now, How can I delete the old corrupted one which is almost 100Gb??
I have done too much to itunes. I have both wav files from recorded records and burned cds. To make my life easy and to fit all this music on my ipod. I want to start over on MBP and convert Wav files to mp3.
How do you creat a new itunes library and convert the wav to mp3?
Bought an Air to replace a MacBook Pro. Want to clear out stuff before I sell it. If I delete files from the iTunes library, am I deleting them from the hard drive or the cloud? In other words, how do I clear the material from this machine without losing what I purchased?
I would like to delete my iTunes library on my iPhone. It has songs from my daughter's purchases that I cannot for the life of my get off the library, cloud, wherever. I have deleted them in my iMac iTunes library. So after I delete them from my iPhone I will do a sync.
How do I delete, once and for all, tv shows that I keep trying to delete from my iTunes library? They never finished downloading and I keep deleting them but, they keep coming back when I click "download all" or when I enter a password? I don't want to allow them all to download then delete as there are about 30 of them?
I've just upgraded from a Power Mac (V10.5.8) to a Mac Book Pro. I'd like to transfer all the music I have in iTunes (V10.6.1) and don't want to have to buy Leopard just for this one-off. I've used the thunderbolt to copy everything else ok.
I'll probably push all my content to iCloud to share on my great new iPhone as well, but 1 brideg at at a time!!
1- I have a Mac mini server running in the basement on a flat screen TV, I use this as my home enertainment center. There are Apple TVs on the rest of the TV's in the house and I have home sharing on
2- thunder storms have caused a power outage
3- The library has been cleaned. The items i still had for down load are still down loading, but all my movies, songs, apps, ect are not listed.
4- I was always going to get around to backing it up, and didn't. Iknow, I know
I think all the items are still there, I tunes just can't find them. One of the two hard drives was approaching full and i was looking at relocating the itunes files to the second hard drive, BUT being a novice with computers I was stumbling and never got it done. I had looked into it and remember scrolling through the screens that had been listed in forums. How do i search for Itunes files? the program runs, but the data is not there? How do i teach Itunes to look where i dropped the files when and if i find them?

i want to delete songs from my itunes library but want to be able to put them back on if i ever want them again. i have an external hard drive and i have like synced them or whatever is that enough?
If I'm playing some music from a playlist, and I decide I want to delete it from my entire collection, I can't don't it easily. Deleting it right from the playlist doesn't remove it from my library. I have to go hunt it down in the main "Music" folder which is a pain in the ass, especially with multiple tracks. Is there some way, when looking at a track in a playlist, that I can delete it from my entire library and put it in the Trash?
Basically somehow my iTunes got jacked up.. just the music part of it.. Anyway, they are all songs from my CDs or mp3's, but just as a failsafe, I would like to backup my entire iTunes library to my external hdd.
I would then like to delete all the songs from my iTunes, and from my iPhone. *edit* figure'd out how to remove all the songs from my iphone.. just unchecked all songs and sync'd.. now I just need to backup itunes and delete everything from it, then reput what I want back into itunes and resync.. sweet
After which, I would like to rebuild my iTunes library using my mp3's and CD's and basically start from scratch.. so that this time around I can properly name songs/albums/artwork/etc
Then I want to take this new iTunes library, and fill my iPhone back up with my new Library in Itunes..
so basically I just want to backup my itunes just incase for some reason I cannot find a particular CD or mp3 in my collection.
Just for the record, I am using a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard 10.6.2, and I have an iPhone 3GS 32GB running the latest 3.1.2 firmware (jailbroken using blackra1n rc3)
When I used to delete a song from my iTunes library it would ask me if I wanted to also remove it completely from my computer. Now it no longer does and I cannot find a option to get that back. Can someone tell me where I can get iTunes to do this again?
I would like to change the computers that my iphone is connected with, but itunes wpn't let me do that without loosing all the data thats on my phone and replacing it with data from the itunes acount, even though there is only 5 songs on it?
Im new to the Mac operating system. I am proficient on a PC, but Macs have always captivated my attention. I finally gave into the Macbook. Anyways ---
The Automator application seems phenomenal in theory I just haven't learned all the ins and outs yet, but i see the concept that it was designed for (Jobs = Genius). Long story short I was streaming all of my music over from my PC and it got interrupted twice. I kept streaming to the same folder but it never prompted me to replace existing files of the same name. So I figured it would do it automatically. To my dismay that wasn't the case at all. I now have 9,000 songs and at least 4,000 of which are duplicates/Triplets. I wanted to know if there was some way to streamline the process of deleting and purging all these files out of my Music Folder/Itunes Library, Via the Automator program or any other program you know of.
If you want the rest of the multi page thread I will paste it.
I have tried restarting the machine and no dice. I thought of reinstalling itunes from apples site but each time I go there its says congrats on downloading it but will not download a single thing. On the problems downloading its only gives me answers to PC problems.
Do I really have to completely reinstall from my iMac install discs just to get itunes back ? I dont use time machine as I have a 1T hardrive in my imac and use most of it for itunes, even I cant afford a 1T stand alone hard drive just for backups.
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Just did the weekly auto update.
My iTunes library has apparently filled my entire iMac (according to the computer I have over 97 days' worth of music). I would like to know 1) how to properly save my iTunes library to an external hard drive and 2) how to use iTunes so that it uses the library on the external drive.
