Until recently, I had had no problems with the mail application for going on six years. Now, everytime my mail application checks for mail (auto or manual), all of my mailboxes are kicked offline and must manually be put back on line. In addition, when I try to send mail, the mail goes to my out box and I have to restart my computer in order for it to be eventually sent. These problems started when Verizon transferred its internet services to Frontier. Frontier says it is an Apple problem. (In doing some research I find that other mac owners, Panther and beyond, with other ISP's are having similar problems with no one, that I can find having found a solution). I have double checked my settings and deleted and reentered all of my mailboxes to no avail.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got my first Mac on friday, I'm loving finding out how to do everything, but one thing has become extremely frustrating. I can't send my email! I have no trouble receiving it, and I've read everything I can get my hands on and all my settings seem to be correct. I've tried port 25, port 587, tried using smtp.mac, mail.mac, (my ISP) tried with SSL and without, everything I could change I've changed. My username and password and all account information must be correct since I'm able to receive mail, it's just the sending that's the problem. I'm using a dot mac email account if that makes any difference.
One thing that concerns me is that under mail preferences, accounts, and account information, next to "outgoing mail server (SMTP)" it says "(offline)" next to the selected server. Here is the exact message I'm getting, and no matter how I change it the message stays the same. "Cannot send message using the server (null). This message could not be delivered because your SMTP settings are not set. please use the account preferences panel to set the SMTP options for your account. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click try later to leave the message in your outbox until it can be delivered."
I had about 100 emails in my inbox, about 50 in my sent box, about 10 in my outbox and I had about 150 folders, some with 10-20 emails, others with several hundred emails. I was working offline, adding emails to my outbox and got some sort of pop up box message about repairing the email. I quit Mail (since I was not on line and had no access).
When I started my computer again and got online, all of my messages were gone, but I did have about 15 new mails since the last time I was on line in the morning. I have a PowerBook G4, Leopard, OS X Version 10.5.2, 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, 512 MB DDR SDRAM.
I have a macbook air running OSX Lion 10.7.3. I have installed Messages beta and am using my Apple ID. I also use this apple ID (as well as my mobile number) for iMessages on my iPhone. The app just stays in offline mode, I cannot get it to change to available or any other status. I am therefore unable to send or receive any iMessages on my Mac. I have to uninstall and reinstall the app several times. The status shows as offline in both the menu bar status and the preferences status. All other online service are working.

ichat seems to not be receiving my messages, when I write and hit enter I can only see the ichat bubble (attachment below), my friend can see my message but when he sends a message back I still see the same bubble, doesn't even look like he's sent a message.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having an issue with my AIM that I use through iChat. It will give me a dialog box stating that I am unable to send a message. Then when I quit iChat and restart it... my AIM buddy list fails to appear.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWe have one user who cannot send outgoing iChat messages through Bonjour. If he adds the person to his buddy list, he can IM anyone with no problem. The problem basically extends because if someone were to IM him through Bonjour, he can see incoming messages, but those people can never see anything he types in response.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI log on whether via Bonjour or Japer and successfully logged on,I can make screen sharing and that's all from ichat on mac osx 1.5.6, whnever anybody on my list sends me a text message, I can not see the text message at all or any notification that the person is sending me a message although on the other side, the other person in see me and able to send messages to me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I'm a new Mac user, on a macbook and I really like it, but all of a sudden yesterday, I can't receive or send messages to one of my buddies on iChat. On another computer it will work, but not with iChat. My buddy will send me a message, and the red "1" will come up on the icon on the dock, but when I click on it, nothing comes up. Even further, when I click on this specific buddie's name, I will not be able to send a message, because no chat box will appear. When I have my computer show all things that are open, nothing will show up from that buddy, so...when I spoke to my AppleCare help, they said that it wasn't their fault or an app issue, that it was the other computer or the AIM server that had the problem. Is there anything I can do to pull up my chats with my friend?
View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to get rid of all those status messages in iChat? Since installing Snow Leopard, there are a bunch of them. I could care less about people knowing I'm surfing the web, reading email, on the phone, etc. I prefer just "Available" and "Away" as those tell if I can chat or not.
I've tried:
- deleting all the status messages from the buddy list (no longer appear in the status message drop down menu of the buddy list, but still appear when you click the balloon icon in the menu bar)
- deleting all the .plist files to reset iChat (no luck)
I recently downloaded Messages but I'm not able to delete it because it says: “Messages” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.

I've been using my MacBook Pro for about five months with no problems. It's equiped with VMWare Fusion, and I do most of my work there in windows. Saturday, morning, all of a sudden, I started getting the "application quit unexpectedly message" with nearly every application I tried to open in both platforms (Safari and the entry to VMWare). I haven't added any software/hardware lately, and the computer worked well Friday evening.
Any clues as to how I might resolve the situation from here would be greatly appreciated.
Using Messages I sent a text to my wife's iPhone 4S. It starts a new screen. How do I send a message so it just appends that message to all the others she's been getting from me?

I am running mac os X version 10.5.8 and I find that mail will download not all my mail and will not send from any of my mailboxes.
I have set up mail with my googlemail account my mobileme account and my yahoo accounts. all are set up as stp and I have set them up according to all the online help lines. I have had mail set up for many months now, and have been trying to fix this problem for a long time now off and on.
One thing that I have tried is changing the outgoing port number from the default to 587, but still no joy.

I handle all the maintenance for three macs. My own mac Pro, my wife's Macbook Pro and my mother's iMac, all intel and purchased within the last year.
All are running OSX 10.5.8, except my mother's which is at 10.5.5. My mother lives in another state and she only has dialup.
Downloading a 60MB file takes all night when I'm there. Last update I did took me a week to download and I don't like tying my mother's phone up all night in case she needs to call an ambulance.
Is there a way I can download updates using software update and my cable modem to my Mac Pro and then burn them to DVD and install them on her machine?
A lot of the times MSN shows me as offline to other people. It happens on Adium and aMSN, and sometimes IM+ on my iPod Touch. It doesn't seem to happen to my sister, I don't think. Does anyone know what could be causing this? It is quite annoying.
