MacBook Pro :: Unable To Work With Messages / Apps Giving Messages
Jul 26, 2010
I've been using my MacBook Pro for about five months with no problems. It's equiped with VMWare Fusion, and I do most of my work there in windows. Saturday, morning, all of a sudden, I started getting the "application quit unexpectedly message" with nearly every application I tried to open in both platforms (Safari and the entry to VMWare). I haven't added any software/hardware lately, and the computer worked well Friday evening.
Any clues as to how I might resolve the situation from here would be greatly appreciated.
I was using a program which opened my console and then I noticed in my console had messages referring to a couple of programs I removed a long time ago by dragging them to the Trash. It seems to be reporting thousands of messages every minute for one of the programs with the message "User or app not found." recurring.
This must be using resources, is there any way to stop this?
I made a new account because it wouldn't let me log in on my old account and now it seems as if it's working but it won't send or receive ANY messages. This application used to work so I don't understand.
How does one permanently delete imessages from the MessagesBeta Ap for a Macbook? I found the files to delete in the folder in "Documents," "iChat", but every time I start a new message, it brings up all previous conversation regardless
I have a new MacBook Air and an IPhone. When I send text messages on my iPhone they seem to show up in Messages on my macbook. I don't want my texts to be connected to my Macbook . What steps do I need to take to make sure my text messages only stay on my iPhone.
I have two apple ID's, so i can't get messages directly to my computer because the messages are under a different apple ID. How do i delete one of my ID's?
The Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.
Using Messages I sent a text to my wife's iPhone 4S. It starts a new screen. How do I send a message so it just appends that message to all the others she's been getting from me?

I am running mac os X version 10.5.8 and I find that mail will download not all my mail and will not send from any of my mailboxes.
I have set up mail with my googlemail account my mobileme account and my yahoo accounts. all are set up as stp and I have set them up according to all the online help lines. I have had mail set up for many months now, and have been trying to fix this problem for a long time now off and on.
One thing that I have tried is changing the outgoing port number from the default to 587, but still no joy.
So I updated to Yosemite and everything was going fine, I had my FaceTime, Messages and Contacts apps working away fine with my iPhone, was having no problems but in the last week or so the three apps refuse to open, I've tried restarting and even holding down alt-cmd-p-r after turning on but no good.
I've also just noticed that when I click on 'About this Mac' from the apple menu on the top left of the screen the window that usually comes up refuses to come up. Which I find quite weird and not sure if this is linked with the problem of the apps not opening.
My messages app doesn't work when I open the icon. It has to be force to quit.messages_dont_open messages_service messages_broke messages_ accounts messages_not_responding messages_crashing messages_application
Okay, I set up Mail 3.5 to use IMAP to get messages from my gmail account. . The downloading went on for several minutes but there are only a few messages in my Inbox. Where are the rest? I don't want them on my computer. I want to access them and get rid of them.
At the bottom of the left hand panel it says USER NAME 905 which I take to mean 905 messages have arrived and are stored somewhere.
I have suddenly problems with using gmail, facebook, adc, etc. Everything was ok until yesterday afternoon. Since then I am unable to open i.e. gmail messages, facebook (anything but the home page), log in into the adc, etc ... It looks like pages where complex Javascript is used cause the problems. I am using a macbook pro with the latest software updates installed. I have tried on Safari 4, FF 3, Opera 9. I checked on my other two iMacs I have in-house ... same problem, although they are running Safari 3. The curious thing is that the only PC we have in-house works without problem on all those web sites. I have also switched off all devices on the network to see if there is no influence and i can't find no anormal traffic on the local network either. I thought about some kind of virus and erased my hard disk and re-installed from the original DVD.
I am unable to retrieve new messages in mail on IMac. Went to mail preferences and checked account info which are the exact settings as of yesterday and matches the same preferences in my other IMac. I have my wifi connection working just can't get mail. What to do next? I did run Main Menu and Repair Disk permissions. Mail is working on my MacPro and other IMac.
I set up my icloud account at work using Mail because I was tired of writing personal messages from my iPhone. Initially I opted to not save any messages locally, since I prefer keeping my personal correspondence in the cloud and on my private devices. Unfortunately if I choose that option, then no messages are displayed in the inbox or sent folders.I am accustomed to the IMAP way of things, where Mail displays the server contents when online and in offline mode, no messages are displayed because they aren't saved locally. Is this possible with iCloud?
I have a folder under my Gmail account marked "All Mail" which currently has over 10,000 messages that I would like to delete. I am using the Apple email program. I am able to delete them only to have them return when I reboot my computer. I am concerned that these ever growing messsages will slow down my computer. I have worked with my internet provider, Apple tech, and gmail and no one seems to have an answer. They do not show up with I access my gmail account through the web.
I have some people send text messages to my email, and until recently I could read them fine. Now they started showing up blank. When I view the messages on a windows machine I see a .txt attatchment that I can open, that has the message. Why am i unable to see that in Mail?
I cannot share in any way shape or form - on the share to DVD option I get a compressor -1 error message. This is for someone else who is desperate to have the project on DVD
On my Mac, ALL of my emails have been marked as "read." However, while my AOL account syncs fine, my Gmail account's messages must be "read" individually on both ends.
Today, I changed the password of my Gmail account on a PC computer in a public library. Afterwards, I was/am unable to log into my Gmail account to check the messages via SL 10.6.4's Mail client. I have an April 2010 13" MBP. Similarly, I was/am unable to log into my Gmail account via the Mail client on my 16 GB, 3G iPad, or the 32 GB, 3rd Gen iPod Touch. I keep getting the error message that either the user name or the password is wrong! I checked and re-checked, but I did NOT see anything wrong? The funny thing is that I could log into my Gmail account via Safari on ALL three devices, but NOT via the Mail client on the three device!
I use Mail to access 4 different email accounts, two of which are Gmail accounts. About a week ago Mail stopped retrieving the messages of one of the accounts. It looks like it is trying to download them in that the little status wheel spins, but nothing happens on that account. I can send mail from it, however it is extremely slow to send. I installed Snow Leopard about two months ago and have had no other problems. Now all of a sudden Mail won't download any of my messages from this Gmail account. I haven't changed any settings, and I can access my mail at [URL] using the net interface and also on my iPhone and there are plenty of new messages there. I don't know what to do.
When I check multiple messages for deletion in my IMAP inbox on my iPad or iTouch, I get an instant screen message:"Unable to Move Messages. The messages could not be moved to the mailbox trash." The selected messages do disappear from the stack but what is this message trying to tell me?
I was just talking to my friend over the Message app on my MacBook and then the red bubble at the top right of the icon said '2', but she had only replied once. Now every time I read her latest reply, there's still a '1' red bubble on the icon, even though there are no unread messages.
