MacBook Pro :: Won't Use Ichat And Aim / Can't Send Messages
Sep 3, 2010
I've been having an issue with my AIM that I use through iChat. It will give me a dialog box stating that I am unable to send a message. Then when I quit iChat and restart it... my AIM buddy list fails to appear.
We have one user who cannot send outgoing iChat messages through Bonjour. If he adds the person to his buddy list, he can IM anyone with no problem. The problem basically extends because if someone were to IM him through Bonjour, he can see incoming messages, but those people can never see anything he types in response.
So I'm a new Mac user, on a macbook and I really like it, but all of a sudden yesterday, I can't receive or send messages to one of my buddies on iChat. On another computer it will work, but not with iChat. My buddy will send me a message, and the red "1" will come up on the icon on the dock, but when I click on it, nothing comes up. Even further, when I click on this specific buddie's name, I will not be able to send a message, because no chat box will appear. When I have my computer show all things that are open, nothing will show up from that buddy, so...when I spoke to my AppleCare help, they said that it wasn't their fault or an app issue, that it was the other computer or the AIM server that had the problem. Is there anything I can do to pull up my chats with my friend?
I made a new account because it wouldn't let me log in on my old account and now it seems as if it's working but it won't send or receive ANY messages. This application used to work so I don't understand.
ichat seems to not be receiving my messages, when I write and hit enter I can only see the ichat bubble (attachment below), my friend can see my message but when he sends a message back I still see the same bubble, doesn't even look like he's sent a message.
I tried the 'Connection Doctor' for my Gmail account and it shows to verify username and password. What the settings should be for a Gmail account should be? port #, etc? when i clicked on 'password' extender, like 4 different subjects come up but not sure if i should click on one of those? I believe it did state using 'SSL' and Port 587.
I purchased my Macbook Pro (late 2013) Retina last month and it was fine to send and receive messages through imessage.I will see a notification for the message, but when actually going into the imessage, the message is shown after maybe 5 minutes.
I was using iChat to get my Facebook chat but I have a problem...I'm able to see my online friends but its not sending or receiving messages whats the problem?
I log on whether via Bonjour or Japer and successfully logged on,I can make screen sharing and that's all from ichat on mac osx 1.5.6, whnever anybody on my list sends me a text message, I can not see the text message at all or any notification that the person is sending me a message although on the other side, the other person in see me and able to send messages to me.
Does anyone know how to get rid of all those status messages in iChat? Since installing Snow Leopard, there are a bunch of them. I could care less about people knowing I'm surfing the web, reading email, on the phone, etc. I prefer just "Available" and "Away" as those tell if I can chat or not.
I've tried:
- deleting all the status messages from the buddy list (no longer appear in the status message drop down menu of the buddy list, but still appear when you click the balloon icon in the menu bar)
- deleting all the .plist files to reset iChat (no luck)
I recently downloaded Messages but I'm not able to delete it because it says: “Messages” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X.
I can no longer send messages in Mail, although I can still receive them. When I hit send, I get "address was rejected by the server" although the settings appear to be correct. I can send messages with web-based mail, just not with client-based (POP/SMTP). ISP is AT&T Yahoo. Outgoing server port is 995
All of a sudden I cannot send mail from my main Mac. My other 2 work fine so I know it's program issue. I called my internet provider and they told me i had to contact Apple so I thought I'd start here. She did suggest that I delete my mail account and set it back up. I'm willing to try this, but I can't loose all my mail. So, I have a back up on time machine if I need it, but I'm not sure how to re enter it into mail.
I try to send & receive my mail on entourage, I am able to receive all of the messages, but I get an error message that says "Entourage cannot connect to the server. Verify that your computer is connected to the network."I know I am connected because I am searching the internet on Safari and Firefox and I am about to receive messages and I can log onto yahoo chat.I am assuming it has something to do with my preferences, but it was working before and I haven't changed any of my preferences. My email provider is yahoo.I was told to switch my SMTP (out-going mail) port from 25 to 567.
After my hard drive got corrupted and I fixed it, my mail program stopped sending emails. It recieves them, but won't send them. I can't figure out why.
Just got my first Mac on friday, I'm loving finding out how to do everything, but one thing has become extremely frustrating. I can't send my email! I have no trouble receiving it, and I've read everything I can get my hands on and all my settings seem to be correct. I've tried port 25, port 587, tried using smtp.mac, mail.mac, (my ISP) tried with SSL and without, everything I could change I've changed. My username and password and all account information must be correct since I'm able to receive mail, it's just the sending that's the problem. I'm using a dot mac email account if that makes any difference.
One thing that concerns me is that under mail preferences, accounts, and account information, next to "outgoing mail server (SMTP)" it says "(offline)" next to the selected server. Here is the exact message I'm getting, and no matter how I change it the message stays the same. "Cannot send message using the server (null). This message could not be delivered because your SMTP settings are not set. please use the account preferences panel to set the SMTP options for your account. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click try later to leave the message in your outbox until it can be delivered."
I said I cannot send or receive emails with my @mac.com email address even though both email addresses are listed within the mobileme acoount. I dont understand. I haven't changed anything or screwed up anything , actually I havent done anything at all, just check for emails.
When I am not connected to the web if I am composing a message and hit send button Mail does not save the message, and just tells me that It could not be sent and discards it.
I changed my apple password - BIG mistake. Now iMessage will not deliver any messages from my mac. I have tried everything, even unregistered my phone yesterday and switched iMessage back on today only to find the problem still exists. It is a great new feature of Yosemite but if it doesn't work then it's pointless and I will have to turn off iMessage permanentely
I am unable to send mail.I have a verizon.net account. Incoming mail is fine, just cannot respond or send messages from this account. It gives me this message:"Sender address was rejected by the server".
Connection doctor responded: Outgoing.verizon.netconnection to server succeeded. No login necessary.
The Mail Client on Mac OS 10.7.4 V5.2 1278 fails on send messages. The compsoe window reappears immediately after Send is selected. The mail message ends up in the outbox. This worked prior to may 1st. Some update has broken it.
