Apr 3, 2012if i set up a gmail account (my main one) with mac mail and now want to delete that account because im not too thrilled with the mac client can i do so without deleting any of my gmail? in other words will my gmail account remain unaffected if i delete the account through mail preferences? i just dont want to run into any issue where all of a sudden all my mail is gone from gmail. i know he prompt says it wont affect mail on the server but i have a knack for messing these types of things up.

Mar 28, 2012My Gmail and Cox accounts and won't work well with my Apple Mail, The mail won't download into my gmail account and I frequently am requested to put my IMAP password in, and it is then rejected.I go to mail preferences and put the password in the appropiate place and I am told the password is new and do I want to use it. I reply yes but its not saved.

Jun 2, 2014I recently returned from a weekend long trip. My mom had used my Mac Book Pro (December 2012) on the guest account. When I opened it on Monday it was unresponsive, and the screen only showed the dock. I rebooted, but the result was a white screen with a flashing folder with a question mark. I followed instructions on the forums, and used command r. Now I am stuck. I didn't back it up with time machine, so that option (Of the 4) is out of the question. I'm using the safari one now. I can't modify or delete my disks for the Disk Utility Option, and am unable to select a disk to reinstall Mountain Lion on. Long story short, I seems my computer is having problems with the disk.

Jun 17, 2014I would like to encrypt only one of the accounts I have associated with MacMail. To do this, I plan to create a new disk image using disk utlity, then dragging the particular Mail account to that folder. Since I don't want to encrypt all accounts, I'm not sure what folders I ought to put into my new encrypted drive image.
In the "homelibrarymailV2" folder, I do see the POP or IMAP folder for the account I want to encrypt, but I was wondering if I also need to add the "Mailboxes" or "MailData" folders that are also there since they seem to have information in them related to my accounts as well.

I have an issue where I can receive mail but cannot send mail to any yahoo account on this Macbook Pro.
My other devices (other macs) work just fine.
This particular Mac - gets a 554 Error (229) under my user when I send mail to Yahoo. But under Guest, it works just fine.
I've deleted my account (gmail) and reinstalled it - but the error keeps coming back.
There must be some setting cached somewhere that reverts the settings back.

(I keep forgetting passwords, and hate resetting them). how to find my password for the first gmail account (Finder>Utilities>Keychain>imap.gmail.com>enter email account name>select 'show password'>enter Mac user password). I was hoping that I could just change the first account name to the second under the imap.gmail.com entry, but when I do this, the password shown continues to be that of the first account, not the second.

Sep 7, 2014I have been unable to send emails from my domain account due to it being blacklisted. I am not a spammer but think my account was used recently by one. I have been unable to find out how to get my ISP de-listed as I have passed from place to place with no-one taking responsibility.

OS X Mountain Lion :: Unable To Eject External Hard Drive?
Sep 8, 2014I am having problems ejecting the external hard drive that I use to back up my laptop. It is a 2012 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.5. My external hard drive is a WD 2 TB My Book Studio. I use it to back up my laptop with Time Machine. Every time I try to eject my disk now I am told that "The disk (Diskname) wasn't ejected because one or more programs may be using it." I have tried some solutions like to stop Spotlight from indexing the disk and to try and turn off TimeMachine, but neither of these worked. The only thing that has worked so far is to log out of my user name and log back in with a guest user and eject it from there. This takes up a lot of time and is ultimately not really a sustainable way of working on my computer.

Aug 23, 2014I just received my new Mac pro at work and is trying to install Mountain Lion as the OS instead of Mavericks but it seems impossible. Every time I try to boot up on a bootable 10.8 installation drive I get the no entry sign. I even cloned my old MacPro and tried to boot from the external drive, I still get the no entry sign.
I tried booting from a thunderbolt, USB and even super drive, with no luck.
I need to install 10.8 because Mavericks doesn't work with Active Directory in my company, it just hangs the system every time, we've tried many different ways to fix this but it just seems to get worst.
Any way I can downgrade a 2013 Mac Pro to 10.8?

Jun 4, 2014I am having a problem adding one of my university managed Gmail accounts to Mail 7.3 on my Macbook Pro. I have two that I use regularly, @oakland.edu and @albion.edu, and I was able to sync @oakland.edu with no issues. However, Mail will not recognize the @albion.edu gmail account and gives this message:
I have tried to override and trust the certificate and that didn't work. I also tried adding the incoming/outgoing IMAP servers manually and that didn't work. IMAP is enabled in the @albion.edu acount. It added to Mail on my iPhone 4S with no problems, so I don't know what else to do.

My work email account is an imap account which I would like to use on my Macbook, and also my iPad. The ideal situation would be for all of my folders, inbox, and sent emails to sync as if I were working on the same device.In other words, I would like to write an email from my iPad only to come back to my office and find a copy on my laptop. Is this possible? Is it merely a matter of adding the imap account to my iPad?
I currently have the account set up on my Macbook and iPhone. The iPhone functionality isn't great. Emails which I send from my iPhone do not appear in my sent emails on my Macbook. I'm looking to remedy this.

Oct 21, 2010I just configured my Gmail IMAP account in Mail.app. In the Settings > Labels section of Gmail, I unselected the "All Mail" label. In Mail.app, I chose the Gmail > Trash mailbox and then "Use this mailbox for Trash" from the Mailbox menu, and did the same for Spam and Drafts.
Now there are no mailboxes listed in the Gmail mailbox, but it still appears there at the top of the mailbox list with a little triangle next to it. When I click on the triangle to expand, there's nothing in there - but the mailbox won't go away. It's an off-white color whereas all the other mailboxes are the standard bluish color.

Nov 6, 2010Well I've noticed lately when sending out emails, I select one of my accounts that I use online(specifically craigslist) but when I get a reply, they are going to another inbox from my other(private) account. I don't want this account exposed, especially to the likes of craigslist as that's a big time spam magnet and for potential scammers. What's going on with the Mail application? I checked my settings and all my account information is correct. This has just started happening recently so it must have been an update or something? I checked my "sent" folder and it's showing as the mail has gone out through the right email account but I got a response showing it was sent to my private account.

Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot receive messages." And my mail wont sync or anything. I tried with both imap and pop and neither work. In my gmail setting I have both pop and imap turned on so I dont get why im having a problem. My gmail account that I used to have on my account before I upgraded to snow leopard still works and my mobile me account works but I cant add any new gmail accounts. I've tried adding a few different gmail accounts and none will work.
