I thought I was updating my software yesterday on the iMac , but instead I'm now getting loads of tabs opening for random sites. Pop ups are blocked and i tried resetting safari. I've also tried to reset in time machine to an earlier date.

Had to reinstall system. All back up with Time Machine. Finally got everything re-installed but cannot figure out how to re-install and restore Safari Bookmarks.

The only new thing I did was use an HDMI cable to connect to my TV. The mac had been shutdown for low battery because i fell asleep on movie. Anyways, I woke up plugged in my charger only to find that i can't connect to certain sites... Further compounding my problem is a taskbar that says "The certificate for this website is invalid. You might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be <url here>.

How did I receive a MacKeeper popup in Safari when have "block popups" checked in Safari preferences?

Why can I still get Google cookies even when when I have "Always block cookies" checked? I can close Safair, then reopen it without even entering any site and Google will stick their *#@*&@ cookies and cache files in my Website data file?
The "tons" of cache files that I don't even go to the site keep cluttering up the website data file also.
If I don't shut down Safari before unchecking "always" and returning to "from 3rd parties" sites that were visited will have their cookies appear, even though don't have that site page open.
The iOS Safari seems to be better at preventing cookies and cache files from accumulating.

All of sudden OpenDNS started blocking certain sites. I never signed up with them.I live alone so no one could have done it for me.I cleared cache, reset safari, added DNS servers 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220I even joined OpenDNS and found to I had no preferences.

I just had to install a new hard drive to my mid 2010 imac. I restored with time machine. I cannot find the original OS disc. Upon restoring it appears there is a problem with the webkit framework as Safari, App store, and Skype all freeze upon clicking on them and after bouncing, they never open. Chrome is working. What do I do?

I decided to reset Safari because occasionally I get beachballs. I also deleted the caches on my MBP. Now when I open Safari, the window pops up but then I get a never ending beachball. Do I have to now uninstall Safari and reinstall it from the Apple website?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few days ago, I noticed that after every computer restart, my default browser would reset from Firefox to Safari, and my default video player from VLC to Quicktime. I suspect the problem may have to do with my installation of Logitech Control Center around the time this all started. I did some reading and found that LCC doesn't always play well with other software, so I uninstalled it. As far as I can determine, there are no traces of it on my system anymore. However, the problem persists -- every time I change the default browser to Firefox (either in Safari or via Friefox checking whether it is the default), a system restart will set it back to Safari. I've updated Firefox to the latest version, but the default setting stills changes.

When I try to set things in the Safari Preferences - like 'enable extensions' and so forth. When I re-start Safari, they've gone back to the original state.
I've tried:
- Resetting Safari
- Fixing permissions
- Restarting the machine
I've also looked at the Library folder, to see if things in the 'Safari' and 'Preferences' folder are changing and they are.
Even when I set up a new bookmark of some tabs, it works, and I can set it as a default start-up - but, when I restart Safari, it has lost the bookmarks folder.

Whenever I try to install the latest preview of Mountain Lion, it says"Some features of OS X Mountain Lion are not supported for the disk "R2iMac". I am currently running version 10.7.4 from what I read and what I was able to make out from my serial number I wont be able to upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion as it says my imac is a late 2006 model.I am just curious if I am able to run Lion why Apple isnt supporting the older models that can? Seems odd to me and it is not in my budget to buy a new mac and my current one is running perfectly. I'm not sure how much I will miss out not having Mountain Lion.

I inadvertently deleted my OSX 10 Lion operating system on my Mac Mini -- tried redownloading it but continually received an automated response saying something like ".... unable to download the software, try again later" That is not an exact quote but close. I tried several times to download the software but always received the same message. I did verify that WIFI was up and working properly on my separate laptop.
