I was in bootcamp using windows xp when I got the bluescreen of death and when my MacBook Pro booted up and back into OS X I found my menu bar no longer contained anything but the bootcamp and spotlight icons. Airport, date and time etc. are all turned on in system prefs but don't appear: You can also see the Skith icon present here as that's what I'm using to take the photo.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I wanted to search for a desktop picture I downloaded. Naturally, I just pulled up the spotlight menu and typed in the name of the desktop picture and waited, and waited, and waited. It found the dictionary definition, and two applications but, the jpg was just taking FOREVER to show up. I ended up canceling the search and just finding it on my hard drive because I knew right where it was.
I tried re-indexing my drive, but that didn't solve the problem. However, after trying a few things, I found the culprit! I have a Boot Camp partition for Windows 7 (it's for games, don't judge me). Well, I figured out that since Snow Leopard can't write to my Boot Camp partition, it couldn't index it as well. All I had to do was go into System Preferences>Spotlight>Privacy and add my Boot Camp partition to the list. Now my Spotlight is lightening fast again. Sweet!
To summarize: Is Spotlight taking forever to search? Add your Boot Camp partition/drive to System Preferences>Spotlight>Privacy
Recently the application icons in Spotlight's search window look odd. There's no problem with the search itself, Spotlight hasn't slowed down, the indexing seems ok, in fact the whole system appears to be ok, let aside these odd looking icons.
Logging out or restarting the system works for a while, 3 Spotlight searches to be precisely, the icons are fine for a while, but the fourth search returns every application icon the way it is seen on the screenshots I made.
so I am try to fix a macbook that was updated to 10.5.7 it appears there is an issue with finder, files or folders can't be move (nothing is locked), spotlight icon and time are gone from the menu bar, no programs will print. I have tried restarting, repairing permissions, removing safari beta 4 (downgraded back to 3) with no luck. Trying the combo update is my next thought?

For apple applications the command and drag (and move works) is good, but the others don't respond (installed a canon printer/scanner). View 4 Replies View RelatedMy menu bar icons have disappeared after installing Snow Leopard. How to get them back. WiFi, Spaces, Volume, Battery and Spotlight blinks on and off. Black Macbook running Leopard with the standard upgrade to Snow Leopard was done. Have an iMac and seems to have everything working on it and did the same upgrade. Both are having small glitches in Safari, but can deal with. It's the no battery and WiFi that's really bugging me. Turning iStat Menus off solves the problem with missing Bar Menu icons.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLately the menu bar will randomly throw in a huge gap between icons. Initially I thought it was a specific app, but now it's happening with all sorts of random icons there...definitely not the same icon each time.
The icons you see on the left are the ones I launched after the gap appeared.
Restarting my machine seems to be the only solution to removing the gap.

Does anyone know a way to hide/get rid of third-party menu bar icons? It seems like every developer out there wants to create a menu bar icon for things that are completely unnecessary, and only half of the time do they have an option for turning it off. Does anyone know of a way to just hide the icon completely? Or hack the application's resources to not display it?

I upgraded to OSX Lion and my only issue so far has been after a restart the airport icon and battery/power (time remaining icon) do not load in the menu bar for anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute after the desktop has loaded. I will be get an IP address and establish a connection but I am unable to use the airport menu bar prefrences until the after I wait for the icon to load. It's rather annoying when I need to select a particular wi-fi SSID after startup.
Completed PRAM reset, disk repair, and disk utility verification.

Changing the icons for the Mac dives are easy, but can't find a solution to change the bootcamp and windows drive icons on the desktop. I've seen some solutions running previous versions of OSX but not SL.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've realized that sometimes I "lose" my wireless signal. I am not using an AirPort router (I'm using Linksys, if that's at all helpful). I've noticed that suddenly all of the wireless signals disappear from the AirPort menu up on the menu bar, except the network that I am connected to (i.e., I only see my router's name there). It also becomes impossible for me to browse the internet, so what I've done to troubleshoot this is disable the AirPort, put the computer to sleep, and disconnect/reconnect my router. When I turn it on, it seems to work. I've also tried simply disabling and then re-enabling AirPort, but it doesn't work after that.
