Does anybody know what happened to my icons in Spotlight? This recently started occurring and seems to pop out every once in a while for arbitrary searches (restart fixes it temporarily).

Has anyone encountered this problem before? How can I get rid of at least one of them!
Recently the application icons in Spotlight's search window look odd. There's no problem with the search itself, Spotlight hasn't slowed down, the indexing seems ok, in fact the whole system appears to be ok, let aside these odd looking icons.
Logging out or restarting the system works for a while, 3 Spotlight searches to be precisely, the icons are fine for a while, but the fourth search returns every application icon the way it is seen on the screenshots I made.
I was in bootcamp using windows xp when I got the bluescreen of death and when my MacBook Pro booted up and back into OS X I found my menu bar no longer contained anything but the bootcamp and spotlight icons. Airport, date and time etc. are all turned on in system prefs but don't appear: You can also see the Skith icon present here as that's what I'm using to take the photo.
View 2 Replies View Relatedso I am try to fix a macbook that was updated to 10.5.7 it appears there is an issue with finder, files or folders can't be move (nothing is locked), spotlight icon and time are gone from the menu bar, no programs will print. I have tried restarting, repairing permissions, removing safari beta 4 (downgraded back to 3) with no luck. Trying the combo update is my next thought?

How does one arrange icons from left to right a Windows. I would like the Mac disk icon in the upper left of the window followed by app and file icons to appear in alphabetical order from left to right. I know it will go vertically and then to the next row.Â

I have to hit program folder twice to see the icons in this folder.I have a 17" 2.9 GHZ Unibody,
When I go into the finder and hit "Programs" the folder opens but no icons are shown, If I hit it a second time (via left menu in window) they are shown roght away.
I place document icons in my finder sidebar, and sometime later they change to folder icons. Does not matter which application they come from, it seems to happen to them all, but they are still linked to the correct documents.

On my desktop the little disk image icons are coming up when i open certain applications. I wanna make them disappear, but still be able to see ipods, cds, and external drives.
Also(somewhat irrelevant), occasionally when i open firefox, it asks me to drag it in the applications folder, but it's already there. please help. its so annooying
i am a tad stumped by this issue i'm having right now with my new imac. i noticed one day that none of my desktop aliases show any longer. in fact if i go to the desktop folder through finder my files and such show in there however none of my aliases nor those files show on the actual desktop. another thing i've noticed is that whenever i now try to drag and drop anything to the desktop whether it be a URL from safari or an alias i made in finder the dragged item simply just drags itself back to where i pulled it from.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I've searched the forums, but can't find an answer -- sorry if I missed something.Just got a new machine running 10.6.3 -- ugh, the dock and folders and so on look like clunky Windows junk :-(I miss my simple, elegant 10.4.11 dock ...I don't want to add novelty icons or that kind of thing, I just want a borderless dock that's semi-transparent or clear. And apparently all the apps out there to change the dock background don't work with Snow Leopard.I know CandyBar can help me with the folder icons and app icons, but as far as I can tell, not the actual dock background.

ran disk utility off off OSX cd..it fixed some block count on a .pub file but still get same thing after restart..
I've noticed for a few months now both in 10.5 on my PowerMac and 10.6 on my MBP that often when I click to rename a file in the finder, it will a few seconds later "un-select" the renaming as if I had hit return to finish renaming the file. I then have to click it again to finish renaming the file. Sometimes, it will do this 2-3 times before it quits exiting on its own. I wonder if Spotlight could be interfering sometimes because it often seems to do it when the window is first open and OSX is in the middle of updating the little icons to show video snapshots and the like. But I've also seen it happen after they're all updated as well. I don't recall seeing this problem on either Mac more than say 6 months ago or so. It certainly never used to do it as I've had the MBP for over 2 years now and the PowerMac for around 4 years and I would have noticed. I wonder if one of the system updates might have changed something, for example.
Has anyone else noticed any issues with renaming files being unselected like that in the middle of typing?
I've got a i5 MacBook Air 13", and for some weeks now I can hear a strange crackling noise when I took it by the thinest side.I'm very worried about it, cause on my friend's mba, that noise is non-existent. Is this the aluminium, is this normal ? I'm under warranty, should I take it back to Apple

I am heading a strange sound from my speaker, sounds like an application is causing it. I check the logs and I dont see any errors. a good method of tracking down the error? Is there a log file for system sounds or do I have to kill each application one by one and wait 2-3 mins between application kills to see if the sound comes back.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy powerbook makes a strange sound every now and then, from the side the super drive is... but not when i have a disk inside. i don't know if it's the drive itself or something higher up under the keyboard... is that where the hard drive is? i've verified permissions and the drive and everything seems ok. should i be worried? (i do have time machine running so i guess i won't lose any data if something does happen, but still it's pretty odd for this to happen...)

I assume this is symptomatic of a slight behind-the-scenes code issue that I could easily fix if I could figure out what it is.

It's too quick to click it with my mouse or see what the icon looks like. Nothing different shows up in my recent apps menu. Is there a way I can track what programs open on my Mac to find out what this program is? Or does anyone know what this could be?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a MacBook Pro about 10 days ago and it had several dead pixels. That got swapped out for another one which had bubbles of liquid under the glass. I'm on the third now which has a slightly warped case and is now making this clicking noise (0:15) every minute or so.
I don't know what to do - I feel so awkward going in and asking for another swap. Has anyone else got this noise?
I recently bought an iBook G4 off eBay. There is one issue with it and I am not sure what is causing it. The battery shows it has about 35 charge cycles, and when it is fully charged it says around 5-6 hours of battery life left. I will use the laptop for around an hour, at which point the battery life is at around 80% with around 3-4 hours remaining. All of a sudden, the computer will go into sleep mode and when I plug the charger in, the battery is at 0% and charging! I am not sure if this is a bad battery that is old and can't hold a charge, or what. I have already tried resetting the PRAM and PMU but with no luck.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSince I plugged my Cinema Display (20" alu) to my MacBook Air... I hear a strange sound inside the computer.
It comes as I guess from the graphic card, or the power, because when I turn off the screen (by putting down the brightness at its maximum), this time there is no sound anymore. When I turn it on, the sound restarts (by being high when the brightness is down, and down when the brightness is at its maximum).
Here's a strange one for you. Sometimes when I visit websites (with Firefox 3.0 or 3.5), certain characters are replaced with strange symbols or white question marks on black background.
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

I got a strange beep (about one second in length) when restarting my new MBP. It came after a two hour, 1.47 gb update to itunes after which itunes prompted me to restart my machine. It was not from my speakers, is it something with the motherboard?
