OS X :: Any Way To Hide Menu Bar (Third Party) Icons Completely?
Sep 1, 2009
Does anyone know a way to hide/get rid of third-party menu bar icons? It seems like every developer out there wants to create a menu bar icon for things that are completely unnecessary, and only half of the time do they have an option for turning it off. Does anyone know of a way to just hide the icon completely? Or hack the application's resources to not display it?
I wonder if it is possible to hide the Dock completely. If you go to Dock settings and hide it, it will appear when the cursor near its edge. What I want, is to hide it completely - dont want it to appear all of a sudden and interrupt me. I found the app Dock Gone, which hides the Dock and makes it accessible via a keyboard-shortcut. Thing is, it costs $14.95, and I just want the dock to disappear.
Is there a way to do this? A terminal command or something? I guess there must be - Dock Gone is doing it somehow.
I have LogMeIn installed on my mac for use with the iPhone app and I'd like to have the server app on my mac running all the time. I don't like the menu bar icon being visible all the time though ... Any way to delete it (note there isn't an option to hide it in the app's preferences ..)
I am having a bit of an issue. I understand that holding down command, clicking on an OS X menu bar item and dragging right or left will allow me to reposition the menu bar items. However, how do I do this with third party applications?
I can only reposition Leopard's menu bar items. Does anyone have any ideas that they would be willing to share?
I don't want some applications to show their dock icon when they're running. Preview is an example. I've used the freeware app "Configure Dock Application Tile", but it always gives me an error saying I don't have permission. Is there another app that can do this?
Is there a way to only hide the menu bar, but keep the dock unhidden? I tried Menu Magic, but it hides both. Menu Eclipse can a put a black bar on top of it, but you can't maximize windows to fill up the space it takes up.
Basically I want a "Turn Hiding On" feature for the menu bar.
I've got an external HD hooked up to my iMac and it has some software on there that brings up a CD icon on the desktop.
Is there a way to hide just that specific icon?
I know you can go to Finder and uncheck so that it doesn't show CD/DVD icons on the desktop...but that would mean anytime I pop in a CD it wouldn't show up and I don't want that, just want to hide the specific App icon.
Attached is a picture of the desktop, the new drive icons are a result of a new drive partitioned out. I would prefer not to see them on the desktop but want to see the Macintosh HD, what method would I use to do this.
I've just been getting into Adium today for the first time and been customising everything but theres 2 things I can't figure out. I've been on Google for the past hour and I still can't find what I'm after.
First off can you hide the menu bar on your contact list? It looks horrible with some themes.
Secondly can you remove the service icons from your contact list? I hate having loads of MSN logos going down my desktop.
If anyone could help me on either of issues i will love you forever.
When I'm watching a video from the internet and I switch the video to full screen, the menu bar won't hide. So, I just want to know how to enable it to hide while I'm in full screen. I know I've done it before, but I reinstalled the OS and have forgotten how to.
Does an app exist that hides all desktop icons in certian spaces? For example, I use space two for all my non-work things and would be great to hide the messy desktop this space.
I'm trying to figure out how to hide the bookmark icons in Firefox in Windows so it just appears like bookmarks in OSX. I just want the icons to go away to save the space. Not sure if there is a preference or some other way. Here is a snapshot of Windows 7 with the icons present
I recently installed an application to my macbook pro. However when I installed it the uninstaller also shows in the launchpad. It is so unattractive and I was wondering how to get rid of it? Everytime I open lanchpad I see it. Dragging to the trash does not work, it only works if I want to uninstall it.
I calibrated my monitor today and now my menu bar is completely black. If I put the mouse there then I can see the items in white. Also, the titles above the icons in the dock are black. In addition, all the menus from the different programs are black also. How to get the normal menu bar, etc. back.
I did an uninstall of Firefox, wanting to just go back and start over, clean. I went into my profile & deleted that (after saving to USB). Now I'm wondering abt getting rid of the icon and how do I check to make sure there is nothing at all on my computer. Isn't that what I want in the event I just want to start over? I love Firefox and just want to get it back on my system, operating properly.
Today I restore from a Backup, and the icons despair from the right side of the menu bar, I go to system and I check the network to appear in the menu bar but the apply tab is not hightligted I try with other with the same result
The weird icon with the phone just showed up a few minutes ago but that eject button has been there for a couple weeks. How can I get rid of these? They dont do anything. Also the iChat bubble. Its defective and just shows a big white block on the left of my screen when I click it.
I newly installed leopard on my Mac Pro. The problem is that there are no icons on the menu bar. (top right). No airport, no volume icon and no language selector icon. I tried Preference -> Sound -> Show Volume in Menu Bar, but it didn't work.
I have Clean V2 menubar icons installed. Which are the same as in the picture but the date+time font and size are different to original OS X ones.
I am trying to delete an application icon in my menu bar (the top right with the little icons for battery, sound, airport, finder, date and time). For apple applications the command and drag (and move works) is good, but the others don't respond (installed a canon printer/scanner). So, how do I delete (which is what I want now) or move them around (for future) the icons?
I'm not sure what is going on, but some time ago my Spotlight icon in the menubar disappeared. Now for some reason the Eject icon is on the far right where Spotlight should be. Also the keyboard shortcut is not working. To do a search I have to now go to the finder and hit Command-F. I really miss not having Spotlight
