OS X Mavericks :: Constant Request For Password Verification

Jun 2, 2014

About a month ago, I made a typo when i changed the password to my administrator account. I logged in to a secondary account, succesfully chancing the password of the administrator account. When I logged in to the admin, I was asked for the password to my keychain. This I made a long time ago, and had no clue of what could be. After an hour of constant requests for passwords for different apps and the keychain, I gave up. I deleted the original keychain(or deactivated), made a new one, and made that one the default. But now I am asked the password for that keychain every other minute, and I know that one, but it's just annoying to have to type it so often, especially when it pops up during a movie.

OS X Mavericks :: Stop Google 2 Step Verification Messages From Appearing In Message App On MacBook Pro?

Dec 4, 2014

I use Google 2-step verification.  With my upgrade to Yosemite, all my text messages that previously only went to my iPhone now also appear on my Macbook Pro.  In general that's fine, but it's a big security problem.   If anyone gets my computer then they immediately have access to all my 2-step codes because the codes will be sent to my Macbook in addition to my phone.  Previously I only had to worry about one device (my phone) and but now there is a big problem with my computer falling into the wrong hands.

Is this an attempt by Apple to stop people from using Google 2-step verification?

OS X Mavericks :: Scroll Bar Works Only Occasionally?

Sep 6, 2014

My scroll bar is very undependable. Sometimes it works (moves), but more often it doesn't. I can usually get it to move after enough time and effort have been expended, but that's  not the way it's supposed to work. I might add that I am frequently seeing the little "ball of death". One more thing: I have Smart Scroll installed, and it's not working properly either. It did, but not now.

OS X Mavericks :: Keyboard Shortcut For Bullets No Longer Works

Sep 5, 2014

I have been using this keyboard shortcut which is Command-Shift-L for bullets in Outlook, Notes and almost any word processing applications. All of a sudden this seems to have gone and now replaced by a Google Search. I tried researching a lot on the internet and found many articles which confirmed that this was indeed a keyboard shortcut but I couldnt find even one which could tell me what happened to it and how to make it work again. I've got so used to this shortcut because my work involves mainly around drafting emails and documents.

I have Macbook Pro Retina 13inch 2013 model & running Mac OSX 10.9.4 OS.

Now I did find one website link which told me how to disable the Safari trigger for this shortcut and I was successful in removing that shortcut. But I am stuck at the point where it's just blank. So now when I press these keys, nothing happens because no shortcut is set to it.

I've already gone through many links which say create paragraphs, some links also say that Option + 8 key works for the bullets but that doesnt work for me either. However, I dont want that too. I would want the original shortcut which was there and how to get it back or even configure it back to the way it was.

OS X Mavericks :: Bluetooth Mouse Pointer Works But Can't Land Anywhere

Jun 5, 2014

It is happening more and more often: When I start my iMac the mouse pointer is moving normally but when I click on, say, Finder nothing happens, or when I click on the Dock nothing happens. It will not stay or land on any app. It is just hovering and nothing seems to be affected by the mouse pointer.

I turn the mouse off and back on and it works fine. So it is an erratic behavior which baffles me.

I have read numerous cases in the discussions and all point to a PRAM reset. Will a PRAM reset delete or revert modifications I have made to my iMac, such as disabling the startup sound, via sudo?

I don't mind restarting the mouse but it is a hassle

OS X Mavericks :: Messages App No Longer Works Following Apple ID Email Update

Jun 1, 2014

I recently changed the primary email associated with my Apple ID and then reset all my devices to reflect this change by signing out and reauthenticating for iCloud and iTunes/App store. The problem is that no matter what I do, nothing seems to get my messages syncing from my mobile devices to my MBP. I've chekd to ensure the accounts are showing up and active on my iPhone and on my MBP based on the instructions and suggestions found. The most frustrating part is that the preferences in the Messages.app are greyed out along with the accounts so I cannot access them to configure.

My last ditch effort was deleting the plist files associated with Messages.app, but this also did not work.

OS X Mavericks :: IMac Works Slow With WiFi But Not At All With Ethernet - No IP Address

Aug 26, 2014

My iMac is very slow.  It only works on wifi.  Ive got good cat 6 hard wire to cox business and its fast internet.  but it wont work on the network.  it says i need an ip address.  it says the internet is connected but needs an ip address.  Ive got it on dhcp auto. but not working.  All other computers work fine with dhcp.  It says the computer is connected but does not have an ip address.  Not possible if its set in dhcp as that is supposed to give you a rolling ip address.  Ive got a cisco gigabit switch that is working well with 10 - 15 other computers working fine on it.  Ive changed the port multiple times in the switch.  rebooted of course.  nothing works.

OS X Mavericks :: IMac Screen Stays Black After Sleep But Mouse Works?

Sep 5, 2014

I have an early 2008, 24-inch iMac. This problem started after I installed an OS X Mavericks update (and has continued). Basically, after the screen is asleep for a while, if you come back and move the mouse / tap the keyboard, the desktop never reappears. The screen stays black but the mouse cursor shows up and you can drag it around. I've seen some similar issues that said they could get the app switcher, but that never happens for me. Just mouse cursor and black screen, no matter how long you try to wait it out or tap buttons. The only solution is a cold restart, although I think in the past I was able to fix by turning off energy saver settings for putting the display to sleep. It doesn't happen every time, I'd say it happens over 50% of the time. The problem actually kicked in with one particular App Store update of Mavericks. I believe it was 10.9.3 if I recall correctly.

IMac (Intel) :: Right Click Function No Longer Works Running OS X Mavericks 10.9.3

Jul 1, 2014

Using OSX 10.9.3 on my iMac. Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Fairly new iMac, 21.5 inch, Late 2013. Just now, my right click function on my mouse does not work. I have checked my System Preferences and the right click is checked under secondary click. I did uncheck it, exit System Preferences, and then come in again and re-checked it, but that did no good.

I did restart my computer last night before I quit for the day because recently I uninstalled Sophos Anti-Virus because it seemed to be caught in a loop that was not finished "cleaning up" but that is only change I have made. Aside from the Sophos acting wonky there were no other issues with the machine last night.

The right click does not work in all programs, not just Finder. How can I get my right click function to work again?

OS X Mavericks :: IMessage Not Working On IPad Mini Or MacBook Pro / Works Fine On IPhone 5s

Sep 12, 2014

I haven't been able to send or receive iMessages on my Macbook Pro or my iPad. They do not receive any incoming messages or have the ability to send out any messages. Every time I try to send a message to a phone number REGISTERED WITH IMESSAGE, this error message pops up. Even though iMessage refuses to work on both my iPad and my Macbook, it has been working flawlessly on my iPhone. Every number that I try (and fail) to send an iMessage to on both my iPad and my Macbook, I have been successfully able to send a message to on my iPhone with no problem.

This is what gets me: I have signed in to my Mac and my iPad with several other Apple IDs and iMessage works FINE when there is another Apple ID involved. There is no problem when someone else signs in using their Apple ID. So far, the only thing that has been affected is iMessage. All other aspects of iCloud work great. FaceTime hasn't stopped working once, for example.

I have had two separate cases with Apple Support about this issue. I have brought all my machines to the apple store TWICE, and they still couldn't figure out what was wrong.

OS X :: Cannot Partition With BootCamp - Verification Failed

Jun 7, 2009

I have a Macbook running Mac OS X 10.5.7 and I'm trying to use BootCamp to partition it into part Windows XP and part Mac. When I clicked 'Partition', it loaded for quite a while and then a message popped up saying 'Verification failed, this disk could not be partitioned. Use disk utility to repair this disk.' so I used Disk Utility to repair my Macintosh HD. I put in the original Leopard disk, restarted my laptop while holding shift and used Boot Camp to try to partition it again, 47GB with 17GB of free space for my Mac and 8GB space for the Windows XP but it still came up with the same message saying I needed to verify it. I tried everything but it still doesn't work. I even tried backing up my data and erasing my current data but the erase, security options, erase free space and repair disk button is grayed out.

Hardware :: DVD Verification Fails After Every Burn

Feb 11, 2008

Has anyone been experiencing this? I have a 2Ghz macbook pro and I get verification fails after every burn I do. I tried using Toast, some other free burning utility and disk utility. Fails on each program. I even tried other brands of dvd's. They only thing that worked was to slow down the burn speed to 1x. This takes about an hour to burn a disc! I was wondering if I need to clean my optical drive? I used to clean my cd burner back in the day if it started failing burns, but my computer is only 1 yr old this month and it is usually usually on my desk. Anyone else having these problems?

OS X ::Disk Verification - Pick Fresh Copy Of 10.6?

Dec 3, 2010

I have a 2009 13" Aluminum MBP. Recently I installed a Seagate Momentus 7200RPM 500GB drive in it and used CarbonCopyCloner to move the data from my previous drive to this one. I then made an 85 GB BootCamp Partition, but removed it. According to disk utility I now have a whole partition dedicated to OS X that has 312GB of free space remaining, but according to Finder, i only have 230GB remaining. To try and rectify this and because I could not get BootCamp Assistant to format my drive, i tried repairing disk permissions, which worked, but then I tried Verifying Disk and I got this error message- Uploaded with ImageShack.us The thing is, i would love to do this, but I lost my install disks. My question is, instead of calling Apple for new restore disks, Can I just go pick up a fresh copy of 10.6? Or is there an alternative to use? Or should I just screw BootCamp and go with VMWare Fusion. I just need Windows to play COD4 and BF:BC2.

MacBook Pro :: No Boot Up - Normal Verification Failed

Oct 4, 2009

My Mac won't boot. It goes to the screen with the apple and loading circle, but doesn't go past that. I've got WIN7 installed on bootcamp, so I can access that, but when I hold down option, Macintosh HD appears as EFI BOOT. I've used disc utility from my installation disc. When I've checked the permissions, it has failed. It also fails normal verification, saying "incorrect block count for file temp555244.".

I was able to select repair disk once, but that failed as well. That would say "missing thread record (id=554666),
keys out of order,
rebuilding catalog b-tree,
stopped repairing because filesystem verify or repair failed."

Someone suggested I open terminal and enter "fscl_hfs -fy/dev/disk1s0" While it ran the common and gave me a bunch of what seemed like options (r to repair btree, etc) i couldn't do anything from there. I tried entering "fsck and then /sbin/fsck -fy" as apple suggests on their site, but that did nothing.

Here are my specs:
15" Macbook Pro, Mid 2009, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, 2.8GHZ Processor Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I was having similar problems a few days ago, when windows crashed as I was transferring files across partitions using macdrives. I had snow leopard when that happened, and reinstalled leopard. It worked fine after the reinstall, but the next day I started having these problems, which are similar in nature to the inital ones.
