Applications :: Move Time Machine From Bigger To Smaller Harddrive?
Apr 2, 2010I have snow leopard. I have a 1TB time machine set up. After all I just realize that it is too big for what I actually need. I think half of that would be more than enough. I have another 500GB hard drive. I was wondering how can I move my time machine files from a Bigger hard drive to a smaller hard drive.
All discussions, post and forums explain how to do it from smaller to a bigger hard drive using Disk utility. But that did not work for me, there is a error saying that the source is bigger than the destination. Does anybody know how can do this? basically using the apple computer and trying to avoid 3rd party software.PS, The back-up file inside the 1 TB hard drive is much less than 500 GB.

Jun 7, 2012I have absolutely no idea how it happened but i have suddenly got upwards of 1000 deleted emails showing in my Inbox, greyed-out. I cant move them or do anything else with them, much less remove them.
I tried Cmd-Z when it happened, nothing happened, then I listed them by sender (Facebook) and tried to move them to Trash with no luck either.

OS X :: Leopard - Minimize Icon Greyed Out
Nov 30, 2007I have reinstalled the OS twice now and I am running 10.5.1. Oddly enough sometimes the minimize button just becomes greyed out and I have to closed the app and reopen it. It seem to happen to all apps including finder.

Jun 26, 2012this problem just started for me a couple days ago. I cannot tell what action causes it, but now restarting and resetting my PRAM settings does not fix it. I also tried a fix I read where I created a login item that resets the audio. I ALSO tried plugging in headphones. I am running OSX Lion 10.7.4.

Mar 18, 2012I have the dreaded greyed out volume ison on a late 2009 mac mini that has been upgraded to Lion OSX. I have read many people are having this issue. I have tried various so called fixes for this issue but the problem remains. This should have been picked up by Apple a long time ago- come on Apple.

MacBook Pro :: Speaker Icon Greyed Out At Boot?
Jun 20, 2012Macbook Pro 13' (late 2011, I think) and its operating system. I am having problem with the speakers. I had no trouble with it when I bought in December 2011, even when I updated the OS 10.7.4. But when I upgraded its RAM from 4gig to 8, that was when trouble started. Everytime I boot, the speaker icon is visible at the start, but when the wifi and battery icons appear, the speaker icon greys out. No sound come out from the speakers. When I checked the speaker section in the System Preference, the buttons are also greyed out.

Aug 31, 2014I have this icon behind the Application icon on the dock and I cannot figure out what it is. It is not something on the desktop as I have moved the dock and can't see it, so it is definitely connected with the Application icon. I have deleted all downloads which could have been half done and I have removed an Alias I had in the Application folder. Now all the Applications appears as "Applications" in the "Kind" column when viewing in Finder.

OS X :: Cannot Find Unread Emails As Indicated On Mail Icon
Nov 12, 2010I have switched email for the first time in 15 years, to a new provider. I finally got MacMail configured and got that working with the new servers, etc. Weird thing is that on my MacBook Pro, on the dock where the mail icon is, it says I have 4 unread emails, which is the same thing it says in my Inbox. However, no matter what I've tried, I can't find those unread e-mails, and therefore can't open them. I tried clearing out old emails, rebuilding mail, etc. to no avail. I can and have got other emails and had no trouble opening them. My outgoing mail is fine. I'm using Safari if that makes any difference.

Apr 20, 2012I am experiencing some problems when I use gmail, yahoo, or hotmail. When I click compose new message in any of these email services my internet connection is disrupted and all the pages I have opened either reset or the browser says it does not have connection. I have used the disk utility to repair permissions and that does not seem to change anything. I have not been able to find anything about this problem being discussed on the internet. I log into an email account, and I click compose message; the internet then disconnects for a few seconds. If I am streaming radio that resets.

Aug 20, 2014Mail is not receiving new emails from either of my 2 email accounts (Media Temple and Gmail). The program sits idle while the messages come in on my phone and iPad. Restarting the program seems to wake it up, but I'm not content to do that each time I need to check my email. I have Mail on my MacBook Pro and have never had this particular problem, it's just on my brand new iMac.

OS X Mavericks :: Mailbox Not Deleting Emails
Aug 22, 2014Bought a new 13" Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display back in June, and ever since I set it up, I've been having issues with mail. Both issues relate to deleting messages, so I figure they're likely related.
First thing is, sometimes when I delete emails, close the program, they magically reappear in my inbox when I reopen mail.
The second thing is, if I close mail right after deleting an email, it gives an error message like 'The message “...” could not be moved to the mailbox “Trash — On My Mac”' and 'An error occurred while moving messages to mailbox “Trash — On My Mac”.
This never happened on my last Macbook Pro, which was the mid-2009 model, even though both laptops run Mavericks. I'm assuming that it's some setting that I'm not aware of causing this issue. I thought it was the fact that my iCloud account was set up to work with Mail, but I turned that off, and it's still doing this.
One of the funny things I've noticed, is that under Mail Activity, it will say "Incoming messages 12 of 48" or whatever number at the time, even when there are no new messages. It never did this on my last laptop.

Aug 25, 2014I opened up mail today to find that my entire inbox has been totally wiped. This is quite inconvenient for many reasons, but I'm not sure how to fix it. I still have the emails in my outbox, sent and drafts folder, but there is nothing to be found in my inbox. It doesn't appear as if my emails are in the trash anywhere either.I'm with telus, for what it's worth,and I'm running 10.9.2.

OS X Mavericks :: Mail - Sent Emails Missing?

I have a number of email accounts, most of them IMAP.
It seems recently (say the past month) its been very slow. The Activity windows shows the accounts seems to just not move. They do eventually process but it takes a long time. They will sit for a minute on stuff like:
"Opening mailbox"
"Getting unread counts"
"Checking status of mailbox"
It seems sometimes they are fast, but when an account gets "stuck" it just takes forwever........
Shutting Mail down (or trying to reboot) takes a long time because it always has to wait for these processes to try and finish.
Perhaps the bigger problem (maybe related maybe not) is that sometimes when I send an email, there is not record of that email. Its not placed in any Sent folder, its not uploaded to the IMAP account. However, they do seem to be actually sent. I *think* this may account while Mail is "stuck" trying to process an account, but I'm not sure....
I have tried Rebuilding all the IMAP folders (not all my offline folders). I have deleted the Envelope files to have Mail reindex.

Jun 26, 2012I have 3 email accounts that I have added to my Mac Mail. It seems to have chosen my school email account as the default email so every time I send an email, it says it's coming from this school account. I have a primary gmail account that I would like to use as a default. Is there a way to stop this automatic selection every time I compose a message? Even if I select the account I want to use when I compose a new email message, it still sends it out showing the wrong account as the sender.
