OS X Mavericks :: Main Account Is Unable To Log In Any Longer

My main account is unable to log in any longer. The message says "You are unable to log in to the user account "username' at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."Â
I was able to create another admin account to at least start the iMac.  I had upgraded to Yosemite but I restored back to 10.9 - still no luck. I found a thread to attempt to repair the sparse file - running legacy file vault (which sounds like a mistake). double clicking the sparse file does not open disk utility.Â

I've run into a nasty problem in that my main user account is no longer visible at the login screen, only the guest user account. Basically there is no way I can figure out to get back into my Air other than the safe Safari guest account.Â
I'm in desperate need for a solution as I need to access files for a conference call in 3 hours.

I've been getting kernel panics for a while nowand I did not install any new hardware or apps, so I decided to create a new account and I've been going strong for a week without any panics. I then decided to log back into my main account and after 2 days I got a panic. I always just use Safari 5 web this happens. I did not install any plugins prior to all these panics

I realized recently that ODT files (whether they're from NeoOffice or TextEdit) weren't working in QuickLook for me, but they're supposed to. I tried making a new temporary account on my MacBook (same computer) to test it, and while in that account, I can QuickLook any .odt. I should also note that .odt's in the Finder on my main account have a plain document icon, but when I'm in the temporary account they show the .odt icon. It's possible I accidentally recklessly deleted some file or something I shouldn't have when I was uninstalling NeoOffice or something, and if someone knew where the applicable file is supposed to be, I could copy it from the temp account to my main account.

How do I set up mailbox so that all incoming emails from my secondary gmail account bypass my inbox and go directly to a pre-labeled smart folder? Also, how do I send copies of these to my primary gmail account into a pre-labeled folder in that account; once again bypassing my inbox (primary reason is that I do not want to get all my work emails into my inbox but I need to have them connected to mailbox at the end of the day. Â

I have a MAC G5, OS 10.5.8. I wanted to change some settings on the computer, but when I entered the administrator password it did not work.I was told that I had to boot up with the system CD and then enter a new admin password, which I did. It seemed to work fine.Now I would like to eliminate the password entirely, but when I go to that section and enter a password, it reads "Incorrect Password"! It seems to work for individual applications, but when it comes to eliminating the password completely, no luck. Could it be looking for the old (UNKNOWN) password? If so I have tried everything and still nothing.

my Macbook no longer recognises any "alien" accounts.It started with mail no longer accepting my gmail and hotmail accounts and constantly asking for the passwords and rejecting them even though I'm 100% sure I used the right password.
Even tried resetting the passwords for all google and hotmail accounts and using those passwords.I deleted all accounts in system preferences and then tried adding them again to accounts.It still wouldn't accept any passwords.I deleted the passwords stored in keychain but that didn't work either.Now I have the same with twitter and Facebook accounts set up on my mac.
And now it doesn't let me add my iCloud account to mail anymore.Is there some sort of reset button to just wipe the whole macbook clean or something as it is quite unworkable this way.

We had a HDD fail on one of our office Mac laptops (a power pc G4). Apple repaired it and I restored all files etc from a backup. I was the administrator during the restore. Before I could get back, the user changed that account to a standard account and changed the name. Now there is no way to change the account back, because there is no admin to authenticate the change. Anything I can do? I am not an advanced computer/Mac person.

I have two POP email accounts that have been working quite well on my MacBook for several months. About a week ago one of them stopped receiving emails. I have deleted the account and set it up again to no avail. If I check the account information it lists all the emails on the server. I can open it on my browser and the mail is being delivered just fine there - just not on my imail account. The two email accounts that I have are set up the same and only one is receiving mail.

I have paid for and downloaded Pages on my iMac last year. I want to add it to my MacBook but the app is no longer in my purchased list. When I search pages it show as needing to be purchased again! How I can resolve this without paying twice?

OS 10.4. I know it has worked in the past month. My user account ( first one set up on system) no longer has administrator privileges. I went to do daylight savings update last week, and reply back says must enter administrator name and password......... Stuck because I can not even do a archive and reinstall because you need admin to do anything

Is anyone else having problems with the email? I am not receiving any emails, nor can I send anything out. Spent 30 minutes on online chat last night with someone most unhelpful, only to be told that the reason I'm not receiving anything is because my email is being forwarded to another address. I set my preferences to do that several years ago when this mac.com/me.com server began having so many issues, to ensure I was receiving email so I could check from my other address. The only comment I got was well, we no longer support 10.4.1 so there isn't anything we can do to help you. The status update says 33% of their customers are unable to migrate. So I'm pretty sure I'm not alone and that is a pretty large base of customers to no longer provide support to. Is anyone else who has not migrated to iCloud experiencing these email problems? Currently my iDisk works to transfer my larger files, but my email does not.

I can no longer receive my emails from the icloud to my mac even though it has been doing it fine since I moved to the icloud a number of weeks now. I only get my mail if I log into icloud or I get it on my phone, it is not synching to my iMac.

As of last a few days ago, AOL has officially banned my account for a ludicrous reason; they said I was in breach of some sort of age restriction. Anyway, now I use g-mail, and everything's been great, besides the fact that my old AOL account was what I used to set up every online account I've ever made, including my Apple Account. How would I switch my account email address without any current access to my old one?

Before last week, I was always able to go to http://localhost. Now all I get is Unable to connect. I don't care if I go to http://192.168.1.xxx or 127.0.0.1. Still won't work. It use to go to whatever my index.html file was. Now nothing. What might have happened?

I go into System Preferences, choose a new photo, close System Preferences, the old photo is still there. I have rebooted multiple times, closing all programs first, just in case something open is preventing the switch. I just cant figure this out, I have always been able to change before with no problem. The ScreenSaver is changeable, by the way, that works fine. Â

I used a partitioned HDD for time machine, using a partition already containing other data files. I am now no longer able to view that partition in Finder. Disk Utility shows it in grey and "not mounted". How to access the files? Does using time machine mean that that partition is no longer able to be used as it used to be?Â

I briefly tried to set up Mail to contact the university mail server there, but gave up. So I deleted the account in Mail.Â
Now, I randomly get messages telling me that Mail is unable to validate the authenticity of NEU's smtp certificate. Every time, I say, 'why are you TRYING to contact NEU's smtp system? I'm not trying to send a message through that mail system! I don't even have an account there anymore!' but of course my computer doesn't know English, and even if it did, it wouldn't know why it does the things it does, so that's a double dose of not getting a response.Â
