OS X :: Won't Work With ODT / Broken In QuickLook On Main Account

Oct 27, 2008

I realized recently that ODT files (whether they're from NeoOffice or TextEdit) weren't working in QuickLook for me, but they're supposed to. I tried making a new temporary account on my MacBook (same computer) to test it, and while in that account, I can QuickLook any .odt. I should also note that .odt's in the Finder on my main account have a plain document icon, but when I'm in the temporary account they show the .odt icon. It's possible I accidentally recklessly deleted some file or something I shouldn't have when I was uninstalling NeoOffice or something, and if someone knew where the applicable file is supposed to be, I could copy it from the temp account to my main account.

OS X :: Quicklook Full Screen Navigation With Keyboard Broken In 10.5.6?

Dec 16, 2008

In 10.5 to 10.5.5 was a nice workaround to use the arrow keys in quicklook full screen mode to navigate through files.

Go to fullscreen, switch the app via apple-tab, switch back to quicklook via apple-tab and you could use the arrow keys.

In 10.5.6 this is broken? Is there any other workaround to go through e.g. pictures in Quicklook fullscreen with the arrow keys?

OS X :: Won't Use Quicklook / For Work In Spotlight

Aug 25, 2009

Is there any way to use Quicklook from within Spotlight search results? I'd like to be able to do a Spotlight search and hit the space bar for a quick Quicklook look before actually launching the program.

I'm guessing this isn't possible, since hitting the space bar only inserts a space in the Spotlight search box, but thought I'd ask.

OS X :: Two Computers / Won't Work With QuickLook In Snow Leopard

Aug 31, 2009

I've upgraded two computers to Snow Leopard and the one issue I'm having is .doc files, .xls files, and PDF files, the icon does not show the file when in column view. When I'm in icon view, cover flow, or even on the desktop, I can see the the thumbnails of the file just fine, but in column view, it does not work. This did work in Leopard. I should point out that the bug does not happen for movie files in column view, just mainly .doc files.
I've tried restarting, and this is happening on a Mac Pro early 2008 and on a MacBook Pro, early 2008.

OS X Mavericks :: Main Account Is Unable To Log In Any Longer

Dec 5, 2014

My main account is unable to log in any longer.  The message says "You are unable to log in to the user account "username' at this time.  Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."

I was able to create another admin account to at least start the iMac.   I had upgraded to Yosemite but I restored back to 10.9 - still no luck.  I found a thread to attempt to repair the sparse file - running legacy file vault (which sounds like a mistake).  double clicking the sparse file does not open disk utility.

Mac Pro :: Dual 1Ghz MDD As Main Work Computer

Mar 17, 2008

I am about to acquire a dual 1ghz MDD powermac g4 and was thinking of turning it into my main work computer. I do graphic design and own licenses to both cs2 and cs3. I also have retail versions of tiger and leopard. My question is what combination would be reasonable with this machine and if its reasonable using hardware this old for print design. I am not pro or a demanding user, but I do a fair amount illustrator, photoshop, and indesign work.

File sizes almost always well under 100mb. Right now I am using a Macbook Pro and I am aware that its much faster than this Power Mac, but I really would appreciate something I can have multiple hds in. It has 1gb of ram, and a radeon 9600 video card. Its also the non firewire 800 version. (2002)

OS X Mavericks :: Safari Broken In One Account

Jun 19, 2014

After installing the Safari update 7.0.4, Safari stopped working in my regular user account. It still works in my Admin account and in another regular user account. I reinstalled OSX Mavericks but that seems to have had no impact.

Instead of opening, the icon in the dock bounces for a long time, then it just stops. The menu bar never changes.

Another app -- Citrix Receiver -- also stopped working in this account, it opens but it cannot connect to the network; this app too does work in the other regular user account.

OS X :: System Preferences Account Pane Broken / Not Loading

Feb 1, 2006

Alright, this is possibly the strangest bug I've ever encountered on my mac. Right now, in my System Preferences, the Accounts pane won't load. Every other pane, including custom ones, works fine. But if I click on the Accounts pane, it chills there saying "Loading Accounts". If I click it again, it pulls up an empty pane. Also, under the Sharing pane, if I go to SMB sharing and click "configure accounts", nothing happens. I assumed it was permissions, but that didn't fix it. I did a full disk verification too, and that didn't help. The pref pane is there, I have read permission for everything, and the .nibs all open up in Interface Builder fine.
