On my Mom's iMac, while starting up with Mavericks 10.9.3 (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5), the usual apple first appears on the gray screen. Then, it flashes hot pink with pixelated edges before completing the startup.

I have a mid-2010 15 inch Macbook Pro. After putting it off for some time, I went to install the 10.9.3 update. However, after installing the update, the computer won't start! A progress bar appears under the Mac Logo during start-up, but it only gets about 1/5th of the way through, when the bar disappears and then the mac shuts down. I've attempted this at least 5 times and it always does the same thing. I held option during start-up to boot into the Recovery disk, and tried to repair the partition (I also have a bootcamp partition), but it said it was unable to repair.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am just new here, and not really a tech guy so I was in panic when I encountered the issue with my MacBook Pro. I will be as detailed as possible here so you might be able to help me out with my problem. I encountered network issue of not able to connect so I first did a RESTART but the restart did nut push through. It ended up in black screen only for a long time. Having no response, I hard booted the machine by doing a long press on the power key. The machine totally shut down after. After a couple of minutes, I pressed the power button and my laptop started. I can hear the usual sound during restart. After a couple of minutes, the MAC logo appears with a gray background, the usual start process. However, what alarmed me is that it stayed in that screen forever, it did not continue. The keyboard lights are also off, which is usually lighted when I had successfully powered my laptop. I am sure there are sufficient battery since I also checked on the battery indicator. having waited for more than 30 minutes, nothing happened and the display is the same (the Mac Logo in gray back ground). I did another forced shutdown by doing a long press on the power button. After 6 hours, hoping some time would make it work, I tried turning on the laptop, however I am still getting the same screen.

I had my mac book hooked up to the tv via hdmi cable as I often do. After finishing using I closed the lid as usual and when I came to use it again I it wasn't responding and was a little warm. Â
When I rebooted manually I got the chime, the apple logo, the rotating grey wheel then a plain grey screen.Â
I've tried all the different resets, i.e cmd r, shift, cmd r p, cmd v, cmd s.Â
When I did a different safe mode start up with the black screen and white letter modes I could see a few errors but went sure what they meant and they disappeared and it went to a blue screen which is also what happens when I do cmd r.Â
I don't have lion. I have the latest osx upgrade from about 2 months ago (can't remember the name)

I attempted to increase the size of my bootcamp partition using Disk Utility and failed, only creating a second partition for my Macintosh HD. I deleted the second partition and attempted to re-allocate the space to the original Macintosh HD, but not only am I not able to do that but I can't boot back into Windows via Bootcamp. When holding the option key while starting I only get the options "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery". I do get the option to select Windows 7 as the startup disk under System Preferences, but while starting I get the error message "BOOTMGR Missing, Press any key to restart" and I my keyboard doesn't respond so I have to hold power to restart into OSX.Â

I have a Mac Pro dual quad 3 ghz and had it for almost 2 years with no problems. Today when I went to work on it, it had a grey screen with the flashing apple folder question mark appear. I've tried everything, from Pram reset, to rebooting from Snow Leopard install disc but it just wont recognise the main HD. Is there anything else you can recommend me doing? Is my HD dead?
If I was to reinstall the OS from Snow leopard will I lose all the information I had on my HD. Is there a way to save some of the files?
Oh gawd I hope this is not the end of my HD as I had some files I forgot to backup lately

Up until about a month ago I never had a problem with my 2011 MB pro. Then it started randomly shutting down and not starting back up when I plugged anything into the usb slot. I looked online and found that the solution was to unplug the battery connecter to the motherboard and plug it back in. And it worked! I had to do that a couple times and the problem seemed to go away until yesterday. Â
It just randomly shut itself down without plugging anything into the usb slot so I opened it up and did it again. Once it turned back on it started acting funny...just a flashing globe on the grey screen. After awhile I finally got it to start up slowly into my actual system. It seemed fine for the most part but a few things were kinda funny. The screen would randomly dim itself all the way like I was manually doing it and trying to use the backlit keyboard buttons would also dim the screen all the way. Plus it was still rebooting into that globe which would take forever to start up to my desktop. I tried to use disc utilities to repair and check for errors but it wasn't finding any errors. Â
Finally I decided to back everything up and just do a fresh mavericks install. It ended up getting stuck on the install...which I believe is because I forgot to erase the disc first. So I rebooted to safe mode and erased it, then tried another install. When I came back to it an hour later all it was doing was booting to the apple logo and then shutting off and restarting. Attempting to boot into safe mode was bringing up some weird script in the upper left corner before it shut back down.Â
I should also note that if it froze and I had to do I hard shut down using the power button I had to unplug that battery connecter to be able to turn it back on. Finally I got the recovery mode and once again the scan turned up no errors so I decided to erase and reinstall again. Lo and behold it shut itself down halfway through the erase and now all I get is a flashing folder with a question mark....cant go into recovery or anything. Â
2 or 3 times recently the clock has been flashing and the apple menu text has been split up on starting. I've rebooted and the problem has gone. I'm using a G5 with OS 10.4.11. Might it just be needing a new battery?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy 2014 21" iMac powers itself down after about 10 seconds while trying to startup in safe boot mode. I'm not even sure why it is trying to start in safe boot mode. I shut it down after a power outage while plugged into an APS UPS. I'm guessing that since I interrupted the auto shutdown it is restarting in safe boot mode. Either way, I get a grey screen with a big apple and a progress bar. The progress bar gets to about a tenth full and the power just shuts off.Â
I've tried starting up while holding the alt key to select the Macintosh HD. The same thing happens.

I have an iBook G4 that runs on OS X. Today, my software update box popped up, and I downloaded the new version of itunes. It worked. Then the other update didn't finish. I'm not sure if that's connected. Now, my itunes won't open. When I first tried, nothing would happen. So I restarted the computer, but it wouldn't full restart (stuck on the box with an apple, acting like it was starting up but never did). So I did an archive install with my discs. That worked. But now when I try to open itunes, a box pops up and says that "you cannot use this application with this version of OS X." What?? I feel tricked and panicky. What can I do?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy late 2009 Macbook Pro started to have screen issues a couple weeks ago. Basically, the screen just goes pink as in the picture below. The laptop came with a dual GPU (GeForce 9400M & GeForce 9600M GT) and switching between them does not resolve the problem. I also tried re-calibrating the screen display, but to no avail. I tried googling the issue but nothing useful came out of that. I've also tried running the apple hardware test but it said everything is fine.Â
This issue has come out of nowhere (I haven't spilled anything on my laptop, nor have I dropped it...). At first, it appeared to go pink randomly, and go back to normal randomly. But now, it remains pink all the time. I would have taken it to an Apple Store if I could, unfortunately there's no such thing as an Apple Store in my country.So now I'm stuck with this annoying pink screen
