OS X Mavericks :: Grey (mostly) Blue (sometimes) When Starting MacBook Pro
Jun 4, 2014
I had my mac book hooked up to the tv via hdmi cable as I often do. After finishing using I closed the lid as usual and when I came to use it again I it wasn't responding and was a little warm.
When I rebooted manually I got the chime, the apple logo, the rotating grey wheel then a plain grey screen.
I've tried all the different resets, i.e cmd r, shift, cmd r p, cmd v, cmd s.
When I did a different safe mode start up with the black screen and white letter modes I could see a few errors but went sure what they meant and they disappeared and it went to a blue screen which is also what happens when I do cmd r.
I don't have lion. I have the latest osx upgrade from about 2 months ago (can't remember the name)
grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (I think it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.
I have a mid-2010 15 inch Macbook Pro. After putting it off for some time, I went to install the 10.9.3 update. However, after installing the update, the computer won't start! A progress bar appears under the Mac Logo during start-up, but it only gets about 1/5th of the way through, when the bar disappears and then the mac shuts down. I've attempted this at least 5 times and it always does the same thing. I held option during start-up to boot into the Recovery disk, and tried to repair the partition (I also have a bootcamp partition), but it said it was unable to repair.
I had properly installed maverick version on mac book pro early edition 2011. my computer is starting and stopping after 2-4 min. can't open or close any application, as soon as i do that, it shuts off.

just installed 10.5.6 on their last gen. iBook. She left the iBook plugged in to the mains and came back to find that the iBook was alternating between the grey Apple screen and a light blue desktop screen where she could see the cursor. Sometimes it would also switch to a blue screen without a cursor.
I've tried holding shift during startup - no effect. I've tried rebooting NVRAM - no effect.
I attempted to increase the size of my bootcamp partition using Disk Utility and failed, only creating a second partition for my Macintosh HD. I deleted the second partition and attempted to re-allocate the space to the original Macintosh HD, but not only am I not able to do that but I can't boot back into Windows via Bootcamp. When holding the option key while starting I only get the options "Macintosh HD" and "Recovery". I do get the option to select Windows 7 as the startup disk under System Preferences, but while starting I get the error message "BOOTMGR Missing, Press any key to restart" and I my keyboard doesn't respond so I have to hold power to restart into OSX.
I have a Mid-2009 13-inch MacBook Pro, with a 2.53ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OSX 10.9.5.

On my Mom's iMac, while starting up with Mavericks 10.9.3 (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5), the usual apple first appears on the gray screen. Then, it flashes hot pink with pixelated edges before completing the startup.
I have iMac 27 and screen problem on start up i have blue vertical lines, when it start i have a lot of blue dots and nothing else. when I connect outside monitor its showing the same.
Just installed lion and still the same problem when it starts blue dots, when startup in safe mode loads of blue lines and dots on the screen.
iMac (late 2012) will not wake from sleep unless I press on/off button. Then the Mac freezes and two messages pop up telling me I have not ejected properly my two external devices 1. 500G HD and 2. 16G Flash Drive.

having trouble installing a trial of Adobe Premiere, every time i try to start the installation a security popup window appears saying: "Setup wants to make changes. type your password to allow this"..i enter my password, box goes away, then reappears.I'm definitely entering password correctly as it says i don't if i don't!
my account is Admin, have tried the other account on the mac, have tried creating a new account, tried numerous restarts, tried downloading a different trial.

While using Adobe CC (Photoshop or Lightroom so far) all the applications freeze for a second, and then crash AT ONCE (Finder, adobe, skype - everything), then grey screen, then everything starts loading up from scratch (drivers, apps, Finder etc.)
It happened three times in two days.
I checked the console after the crash and got A LOT (about 4000) errors like this (all have the same time-stamp):
8/29/14 10:10:22.366 PM Core Sync[335]: Our bootstrap port disappeared out from under us: 0x603 { urefs = 1, rights = (0x603): 0xf: (os/kern) invalid name }
iMac os x Mavericks 10.9.3. I tried to boot up yesterday morning after completely shutting dwn the night before. Stays on grey screen with Apple logo. I tried safe mode, no luck, will not boot up in safe mode. I tried backing up to external hard drive from utilities, but it stopped and said something like couldn't perform function... I never used or set up Time Machine.
My 2014 21" iMac powers itself down after about 10 seconds while trying to startup in safe boot mode. I'm not even sure why it is trying to start in safe boot mode. I shut it down after a power outage while plugged into an APS UPS. I'm guessing that since I interrupted the auto shutdown it is restarting in safe boot mode. Either way, I get a grey screen with a big apple and a progress bar. The progress bar gets to about a tenth full and the power just shuts off.
I've tried starting up while holding the alt key to select the Macintosh HD. The same thing happens.
After a few minutes of rebooting the machine i will use spotlight and it will be very flickery. Like when updating results, the blue bar flickers white and blue very quickly and almost unnoticeable. Also, related, when scrolling a list in the dock through a stack shown in list mode, it flickers a lot there as well. Is this normal behaviour for these machines/leopard in general? I'm used to using a crappy old iBook so i dont know if im just being pedantic.
New iMac is stuck on grey apple screen after startup. It is a 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5 running OS 10.9.4. The problem occurred after a migration from my older 2009 iMac which is running Snow Leopard 10.6.6. When the restart occurred from Migration Assistant, the new computer will not boot up to the login screen. Disk utility did not solve problem.

Display flatters for up to one second while doing the regular boot.Means it gets blue with Apple logo bright - like a negative of original screen. Was not observed with Mavericks first releases .1, .2.iMac Late 2013, 27 inch, NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB.Again possibly a problem with SMC and it's reset as first solution candidate,or rather graphics?
I recently upgraded to Mavericks and was greeted with a horrible strip of vertical blue bands across the screen with shimmering in places that are grey.
When I attempt using Photoshop, all my gradients were appearing as low res bands.
My videos are worse hit as they all appear in low res.
I have been getting blue screen which flashes about a second (once) at the start-up apple screen, but it is not stucked, it jumped to log-in screen immedaitely or rather normally. However I do understand that it should not be a normal start-up because when I just bring this mac home I do not have this problem before.

How does one arrange icons from left to right a Windows. I would like the Mac disk icon in the upper left of the window followed by app and file icons to appear in alphabetical order from left to right. I know it will go vertically and then to the next row.

My 2008 Macbook restarts and shows the desktop, then goes blue. It then shows the desktop again before going blue again. Cannot open Finder or anything.
while i am using my macbook the screen will suddenly go blue and flash between different blue colors like it is trying to work. sometimes it comes back on but most of the time it stays like that. I have to force shut down with the button and then restart...about half the time it is still flashing blue after the restart and if it does work, it goes blue eventually.
dont know if its a problem with the screen or what because the computer continues to work...if there is a movie on, you can here it in the background and the screen just flashes.
I've had Last fm for a while, and whenever I plug in my iPhone or iPad, it will randomly start on its own, even after I force quit the app, it keeps doing it, and it drives me insane, it'll start up in the most inconvenient times, and I have to quit it at least three times before it finally stops starting itself. Is there a way to fix this, or do I just need to uninstall it and be done with last fm ?
"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."
I get this message everytime I turn on my MacBook Air and cannot get past it.
When i turn the power off, it hang for quite a long time and this screen appears,
Macbook Air OS x 10.5.
Before this happened, i went on skype and firefox. But then it hanged, so i had to hold the power button to shut it down. I meant to restart it back but then i couldnt. This problem appears.
Just before it happened, i dont have any start up application. But before, they were adium, skype and transmission. And my 'HUAWEI mobile connect broadband internet' connect automatically. and i dont use time machine.
so I have read most of the start up problems, and mine is different. Whenever I shut down and try to start my computer again, I am not able to get my computer to turn back on. I hit the power button, and hear the computer humming, but not the typical hum-hum that usually occurs. My screen remains black with no activity. After 5 to 10 attempts at this, the computer starts up fine, and I have no problems with it running. I do not have this problem when I use the restart function, say after I download a software update. This problem is driving me nuts as I am afraid I can not shut off my computer!
After getting a message to upgrade airport, quick time , security and another two things that I do not remember I got a message that upgrade was not done and restart the MB. I did the restart but when the sign MAC OS X starting up shows it freezes there for ever. I tried disk utility from the disk but it tells me that disk is OK needs no repair. Tried single user mode , the same, tried to reistall OS after first disk blue emty screen.
Safe mode not opening. Is there a way to get back my data ? and make the system work again?
