Im having some problem with users who connect to windows server using smb..if someone opens a file using his mac other users can't open files because its locked by him even after restarting the mac it's still says that the file is locked by him..we are using several diffrent types to mac ( imac mac pro air ) but 99% are using the latest version of OSX

I have 1 tb data drive on server for student files but only using 40gb and says out of space. I cannot figure out where the space is located.

I had a goodworking SUS (10.6.8) working but the drive is getting full so i change the location of the files to another disk (in the xserve)and follow instructions from Apple (page 84 from the manual System Imaging) sudo cp -p /private/var/db/swupd/html /Volumes/My_Volume/My_Software_Updates_Folder/This works and i copy the files to a new drive. I also change the SUS so that theu host files for Lion clients url..works also, start SUS in Server Admin but when clients wants to connect i get an error that there is no SUS available and when i use the browser for an check i get een Forbidden error url...ForbiddenYou don't have permission to access /index.sucatalog on this server.Apache/2.2.21 (Unix) Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently attained a new client for IT support, and they have a xserve running Mac 10.4.11, for which the previous IT company supporting it did not give them the admin password. Also they don't have any restore discs of any kind. What I would like to do is wipe the server and upgrade to the newest version, because currently there are only two people touching the server, so now would be an optimal time to do the upgrade before it increases to more. But my main concern is getting access to the files of other users on the server so that I can copy them to an external hard drive, (i'm from the PC environment so essentially taking ownership of the files). What is the best way for me to do this in the Mac world?

Upon initial restart after installation, the grey screen with the Apple icon comes up and gets stuck there. I have tried to power down and get to disk utility to try repairing permisions but it always goes to the log on screen not the recovery mode. All user ID's get a pop up that says 'you are unableto log in to the user account'x' at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred. The spinning wheel spinns by the PW the whole time the error box is up but goes away when you click OK. It also knows if you put in an incorrect PW or not Have mac mini server 10.7 and an airport extreme the net was really slow at first on other nodes so I had to move to the guest net I cannot logon to the aitport cause it is single sinon enabled Worked yesterday not today after sleeping I can log onto my Wiki page with users though?

I updated my 15" MBP (MD 104) to the latest version of OS X and while restarting, it got stuck and has not recovered for quite a while. It shows my wallpaper and even if I close the lid, the screen refuses to turn off. I cannot access anything as it is stuck in the phasing out stage so I see my wallpaper as a blur.when the battery finally runs out, it will have to shut down which I cannot do right now despite holding down the power button for quite a while.

I switched my user to guest mode to check it out and I am now unable to log out and switch back to my main user. I click on the Apple button at the top left corner and it only says to restart or shut down and I have done both multiple times and continues to open back up into guest mode.

My late 2008 macbook pro 2.4 ghz 4gb Ram 250 gb HD has mavericks on it im not sure exactly which version but I know its mavericks. When I boot it sticks on the apple logo with spinning wheel. When I boot into OSX utilities I get stuck. I can move the mouse but cant click on anything. Hitting the up and down keys lets me highlight the 4 available options which are "restore from time machine backup" + " reinstall osx" + "get support online" + "disk utility"  I cannot choose any of these options no matter what buttons I press or how many times I try to click on it. Press up or down and I can change what is highlighted between the 4 choices immediately.Â

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently, I got an email from apple about finally being able to download Yosemite beta. I happily did so, and it was working fine, but my dad wasn't happy. I did this with his permission, but he couldn't get iPhoto to work, and was extremely annoyed at the Yosemite beta, so he tried to fix the problem himself. He somehow loaded all the data up into a time machine file on a hard drive, and then booted our mac in disk utility mode, and recoveried drived it and stuff, which in end, he used to downgrade Yosemite to Mavericks. What he didn't realise was that Yosemite and other OS X versions weren't designed to be downgraded, and in fact don't support it. Well, our computers running Mavericks now, and it is going fine apart from one major hitch. Currently, we are able to login (using our designated passwords) however, once logged in, our passwords don't work. This means nothing can be installed or uninstalled or anything etc.
For example, once logged in, we cannot edit settings, as when this pops up, our passwords just get denied when we try and enter them:
Our passwords when we login are the same, but it is almost like nobody is administrator. However, we clearly are administrator as labeled in the settings tab...
I have tried to reinstall Yosemite however, I need a password to do so.
I've been having trouble downloading files from an ftp server (URL) on Finder and while it does fully download eventually, it takes a while and if I click the x to stop it, the download won't stop. Is this a known problem with Finder, is it a glitch, or is it my internet connection.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a problematic iMac running mavericks. I tried to do a disk repair in Recovery Mode which didn't work (said it needed a disk repair but could not repair and that I should backup everything). So then I tried to quit out of recovery and restart by choosing the Mac OS HD...it won't restart...it just keeps giving me the Recovery options front page. What should I do?

I haven't had too many issues with MAVERICKS but have been hesitant to install Yosemite onto my Late 2009 i7 2009 27" iMac. Five days ago, when my iMac woke from sleep, I noticed an "erratic" image across the sign-in screen. I did a hard shut down and when I re-booted, the screen froze at the apple icon. I used Time Machine to restore my system which worked successfully This morning, when I woke my iMac, same dreaded frozen apple icon but three attempts to do a system restore with Time Machine failed.Â

The computer is completely unresponsive and won't shut down or turn off. It is stuck in Set Up Assistant after trying to sign in to AppleID. Attempting to shut down or restart produces the following dialogue:Â "The application Set Up Assistant has cancelled shut down. To try shutting down again, quit Setup Assistant and click Try Again."Â
HOWEVER it is impossible to quick Set Up Assistant— the icon is completely unresponsive even to force quit, right click or anything.I've managed to get into being able to see Dashboard and at the top Desktop and the dock below. But I can't click on anything from there. So it seems it is not the whole computer.
New iMac is stuck on grey apple screen after startup. It is a 3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i5 running OS 10.9.4. The problem occurred after a migration from my older 2009 iMac which is running Snow Leopard 10.6.6. A bit of a backstory: Recently my mid-2008 MacBook Pro stopped working. When I try to boot it up, the screen just stays black and the idle light flashes perpetually. I've reset the NVRAM and SMC, even attached it to an external monitor, but nothing works. After a lot of research, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the hall effect switch. But I digress; I don't actually need this computer repaired, as I have a second (newer) MacBook Pro I can use. However, there are some files on the old one that I'd like to retrieve. And yes, I've tried booting into target disk mode, which unfortunately doesn't work for reasons listed above. Essentially what I'm asking is, is there a way I could transfer the files off the old computer to the new one? I know, I should take it to the Apple store, but that's not really an option right now due to personal reasons.

Trash won't empty. I have had dropbox application and removed it, and now want to remove the dropbox folder I tried resetting the PRAM as it was expressed in one of the topics but it didn't work the files are stuck in the trash and when I go to empty my trash it just gets me emptying and doesn't want to move further than that.

So I have a MacBook Air, 2008 I believe, running Mavericks....Â
Today it decided to get stuck on the gray startup screen with the Apple and never ending rotating circle. I have sifted through TONS of articles and discussions and tried various things including:Â
- Holding Shift+cmd+V to do a safe boot while seeing the progress and a disk0s2: i/0 error is at the bottom.
- Holding down Cmd+R on start, then Reinstalling OS X Mavericks: would act like it was working, then would just revert back to main OS X Utilities window.
- Repair disk: cannot repair, instructs me to backup my files, reformat the disk and restore.Â
Well I have tried duplicating the main disk image with an external hard drive, and that won't work because it says the disk won't unmount.Â
I cannot find any way to backup my files before I resort to erasing the disk. The disk cannot be repaired, nor will it unmount. I unfortunately don't have an old backup to restore it to. Any way to backup my disk in its current state, then enabling me to erase and restore the disk? Or any other options that would work?Â

10.9 Server is gone on Mac App Store, how to find it? I'm running Mavericks and has no plan to upgrade to 10.10 yet. But there is only one version of OS X Server on Mac App Store, which is only for 10.10, leaving me no way to install my Mavericks as a Server.Â
