MacBook Pro :: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 / Safari 7.0.3 Doesn't Open Google
Sep 7, 2014
I am on a macbook pro, osx 10.9.2, safari 7.0.3.
When I try opening google, yahoo, facebook and etc, it keeps coming back with "safari cannot open pages because the sever where this pages located is not responding.". But i can open it with Google Chrome that installed in the same macbook. Â
Also the it doesn't allow iphoto to login facebook but it works fine with flickr. Â

I have a 13" Retina MacBook Pro running Mavericks., Safari suddenly will open ONLY Google-related pages (e.g., gmail and google maps). All other websites I try result in the gray page that says, "Safari can't find the server."Â
when I turned on my MBP, the wireless connection would not connect to my home network. That was temporary--it eventually connected to the network, but then even though it was connected to the network, it could not access the internet connection. All of that then resolved itself (I reset modem and router) and those connections resumed functionality. But then I could not access any web pages, as per my comment above, EXCEPT for Google-related pages.Â
Steps I have already taken in attempt to resolve:booted in safe modecleared Safari cacheRemoved all website dataunder Proxies on Preferences -> Advanced tab, selected Auto Proxy Discoveryunchecked and re-checked the Fraudulent sites warning check box on Preferences -> Security tabÂ
Does it have something to do with the Google Safe Browsing Service? Seems so odd that ONLY Google pages will load..

If I am in Google Maps Street View and I try to quit Safari, it always refuses to quit. (ie. Nothing happens at all when I click Cmd+Q)Â
If I come out of Street View, by zooming out into Satellite or Map view, or by going to another site altogether, Safari will quit normally.Â
As far as I know Street View is the only thing that causes this problem of Safari refusing to quit.Â
I'm running Safari 5.1.7 at the moment, (although the same thing happened in previous versions), and OS X 10.6.8.Â

Why doesn't safari history save google searches in OS 10.6.8 or Lion? It records image searches but not the google search unless you use the google search on the bar and not in the window.

Also, I receive a "Server cannot be found message" when attempting to access Facebook and Youtube. Almost all other pages seem fine but I just receive error messages when attempting to view these few. I am using a new wireless network and wondered whether this could be the problem.

Since updating Safari recently to 5.1.5, if I choose the Mail Link to This Page command, instead of opening Mail.app with a new email with the link pasted in, it launches Google Chrome and, in Chrome, goes to the email login page for Google webmail. If I choose the Mail Contents of This Page command, I get an error message stating: "Safari can't create an email message because Google Chrome.app doesn't support sending webpages from Safari. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages." Safari is set as my default browser. This behavior started immediately after the 5.1.5 update.I use these commands pretty regularly and, through many version of mail.app and Safari, there has never been a glitch. Any ideas, folks? Or is this a bug introduced by 5.1.5 or some other recent Software Update? (Software updates are completely up to date and on 10.7.3.)

I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Encountered problems opening a .MOV file attached to a Mail email. The file crashed. Now, none of these files will open: Mail, Safari, itunes, iChat, Google Earth, Skype. The icon bounces ONCE, then...nothing. At first I thought it was only internet-linked applications, but I am able to run Firefox browser, as well as open other applications that don't link to the internet, .I have opened similar MOV files from the same source before, and no problems. Â

My clients say that their Mac which is running Safari 5.1.5 won't open their web site which is: [URL]
I've asked about 5 other people to see if they could open it up on a mac using Safari. So far, everyone can open it except for my client. The site is created with wordpress. It's not redirecting. Â
I'm really not sure which Mac they have or their operating system. I just chose two so that I could submit this ticket. Â
What in the world would stop them from being able to see the site? They can go to other sites.Â

I just reformatted my system and installed all software again. My config is: Lion 10.7.3, Safari 5.1.5.
In the past, when I opened Safari, even a single window opened in a Tab, now when I open just one window (i.e. only one Tab), it doesnt open in a Tab, , only when I do a Command + T to add another Tab, does the first window convert into a Tab. The resulting problem is that if I want to drag one window to another (where the first one has only one Tab), I cant do that, since it doesnt appear as a Tab, which means there is nothing to select and drag to another window. I seem to be having a hell of a time with all google related things. About 50% of the time I can't get to the google search page and get the error message Safari can't open the page [URL] because Safari can't connect to the server. When I am able to get into gmail, I am constantly being disconnected from gchat, like every 5 minutes. When it disconnects, it will try to reconnect, most of the time unsuccessfully. I then get the error message, unable to reach gmail please check your internet connection. This happens no matter what browser I use. However, when I try to connect from my husband's PC (same network), everything is fine. I've tried emptying my safari cache, tried uninstalling and re-installing both safari and firefox, and I am out of ideas. Any ideas about what is going on, and how I might fix this issue. I searched through the google help, and there were similar problems posted (none recently), but no answers on how to solve the issue. This has been going on for about a week now, and it's driving me up a wall.

I got lured by adbait and clicked on a retailer site. Ever since, this retailer's annoying, flashing ads are popping on sidebars on a number of other web sites I routinely use (e.g., NY Times). Eerily, the exact two items I looked at are what are showing up -- presumably to lure me back!Â
I went into Safari preferences, cookies, details, and found the retailer and deleted. Yet, those ads still appear. Is there something else I need to do? (and yes, I've restarted since then, and gone back and checked, and that retailer does not appear in the list of cookies).Â
Is there some other malevolent thing they've managed to track on me, other than cookies??Â

Previously the solution was to install Safari plugins Inquisitor or Glims but Apple have removed the interfaces from Safari 4 that these plugins used - and there is still no built in Safari Preference to set the locale of the Google search. Effectively this renders the Safari Google Search field pretty well useless - at least for UK users. If you're searching for UK-based businesses or individuals, for example, the thousands of USA results that come up first are just not relevant - (that's an example of British Understatement. by the way

I get this ad every time I load the page. I figured it was a cookie problem so I searched my cookies for 'Google' and deleted all the results. I'm still getting it. It's not happening in Firefox, only Safari. It's been there since Friday or Saturday. Am I the only one?

I recently bought a 13" MacBook Pro and I've been using Safari as my default browser. Before I got my Macbook and used a Windows 7 laptop, Google Chrome was my default browser. I still wanna use it as my default browser but not sure if it's as good for the Macbook as it is for Windows. I know both are fast browsers but which is the best one for the Macbook? Should I stick with Safari or should I switch to Google Chrome?

Every time I try to connect to any social media websites and a few others, I experience one of a few things. The first being an SSL error. This happens on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and even Google. The second is an SSL error again, BUT I can proceed anyway, which brings me to the third issue. I get onto the website but all the graphics on the website are gone and I get something looking like the image below. Time and date are correct.
