OS X Mavericks :: Photoshop Throws Up Strtable Error Screens On Opening Files?
Sep 1, 2014
Opening CC2014 Photoshop files keeps throwing up error screens warning of a 'strtable error'.
Having just moved to the new MBP and at the same time upgrading to CC2014 means I'm not even clear on whether the file issue is an Adobe or Apple message.
Clicking 'OK' on the warning screen allows the file to open seemingly without problems, but it obviously doesn't promote a relaxed attitude to file integrity.
I've read suggestions that the issue is related to files having the wrong extension, but that's not the case here. Some of the files are legacy files from CS Photoshop; but many are created in the last few days by the same CC2014 PS app that's trying to open them.
Info:
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), 1TB/16G
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and CS5.5 about three weeks ago. All was working fine and then two days ago Photoshop stopped opening files. The Adobe crash report indicated that it's an Apple bug on file save/open, and when I did some research on the internet it indicated that (even from back i 2009) this is known bug.
Here is how it goes, I download the file DMG file and it opens it with DiskImageMounter and it shows up in Finder after it is done downloading, I click on the package to install it and it will never open up; the prompt "There was an error opening this document. There was a Macintosh system error(-1409)"
I am a novice Mac user. I think I was using Mountain Lion (i paid for it - about £20) but upgraded to Mavericks last year when prompted by my software update. I now understand from reading various online posts that this means I am now stuck with it. At first I had lots of problems with PDF files crashing but this has been fixed. Today I am not having a nightmare trying to use Finder. Any time I click on a file or folder the colour wheel spins for about 10-20 seconds. This happens for every command I make. I just tried to access my files directly from the desktop and the same thing happened. I am not sure what to do and I dont want to end up deleting something important!
I am running Creative Suite CS5 and noticed all plugins will not work, as CS5 works natively in 64 bit. I have tried opening in 32 bit and the beachball of slow goes on indefinitely and will not open in 32? I can still use plugins in CS4 then export product into CS5, but a bit of a long winded route...anyone else?
Currently using 10.5.6 on an emac 1.25, 768 sdram with 150Gb. I have been using PS 2 for ages to improve my photos from a Pentax camera without any problems. All of a sudden, when opening a pic downloaded from the camera, I am getting a message:-
EMBEDDED PROFILE MISMATCH The document "..............jpg" has an embedded colour profile that does not match the current RGB working space. Embedded sRGB IEC61966-2.1 Working : Monitor RGB - Apple RGB
1) Use the embedded profile (instead of working space) 2) Convert documents colours to the working space 3) Discard the embedded profile (don't colour manage)
So far I have converted the pics one at a time without difficulty but it adds an extra process to it all. Why am I getting this message and how can I get rid of it?
I'm using an iMac(seen in sig.) and I had installed Photoshop, and while of course a little slow due to Rosetta it worked. Then maybe a week ago, it just seemed to stop opening up and crashing immediately. I'm running OSX 10.4.8, everything is properly updated and I've reinstalled photoshop a few times to no avial. The problem didn't seem to occur after any change, I might have just not noticed it though.
I operate with two screens (MacBook Pro) and generally want the dock at the base of my larger plug-in screen. This works fine except that occasionally, just with mouse movement, it will flip to the base of the smaller machine screen. It can be put back by opening System Prefs/dock and selecting 'right' followed by 'bottom' - but still, it would be nice to know why this happens and if there is an easy way to stop it?
I keep getting "problem reports" when trying to open applications that have worked fine for years. Microsoft Word, Photopshop, Illustrator an Avery CD Sticker maker all give me the problem report window with the yellow trianlge and exclmation point when I try to open them and say: "____ has quit unexpectedly. Click reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically." Clicking reopen offers the same thing again, and again, and again. It started yesterday with Photoshop and Illustrator, so I took them off my computer and tried to reinstall them. Now I get "Install Photoshop has quit unexpectedly. etc.." I ran the disc utility and it said my hard drive was OK.
I have images on my desktop, that are also stored in iCloud. When I open them from my desktop, say in Photoshop, that have an annoying iCloud icon in the lower lefthand corner.. Why is this and how do I make it go away?
It is very common for Huffington Post to throw me out. Msg says "IGNORE, REPORT OR RELAUNCH". This is annoying, I have an IMAC-v 10.5.8. Could this be a Flash Player issue? I am getting pop-ups to install Adobe Flash Player 10.4-10.5 but when I click "install", msg says "not compatible with this computer".
I have been using Photoshop 7.0.1 on my Old iMac G4 Mac OS X 10.4.11. I have now bought a new imac 20" iMac OS X 10.5.3 and although it installs, it will not open and a message appears "An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit." No explanation or help offered. I have tried downloading other versions but no success. Having now retired I use photoshop a lot to produce fun cards for the grandchildren and a Newsletter.
Today I went to open a casting call document from my acting agent using MS Word in Office 2004 as I usually do every week and I got the following error message: The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<Microsoft Word><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_QuickTime><>"
I then tried scouring the web as I usually to find a solution. I tried repairing the permissions and rebooting. That did nothing for the problem. I then returned to the web and found that others having this type of problem also had problems opening Adobe Photoshop. I checked my copy and, lo and behold Photoshop gave me the same error message.
Recently I updated my versions of Quick Time and Adobe Reader. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but other people with this problem have mentioned installing updates as well. Due to the fact that I was given the two above programs as well as Illustrator by my last job before they went belly up I don't not have any of the discs to re-install. That said reinstalling Mac OS X is the last resort.
I'm trying to install Photoshop 5, and a message pops up saying "You can't open the application Install Photoshop because the Classic environment is no longer supported." What can I do??
For the last two days every time I try to connect to AIM in messages I get this error "An undefined AIM socket error has occurred." I have quit the app, changed servers, trashed the Prefs but none of these have cured the problem.
I have a brand new unibody macpro which came with 10.6. I am unable to print large files onto my HP z3200 (500 mb or greater) with Photoshop CS3. I can print the from LightRoom 2.5 with no problem but would far rather print from Photoshop. HP doesn't seem to have much of a clue about this.
A couple of days ago I noticed that all the images on my mac had no icons anyway, whether they be PNG's, JPEG's or GIF's, they won't open in preview or quick-look only photoshop CS4; even photos that have never been through photoshop. What isalso weird is that I haven't used photoshop in months! So i have no idea what has caused this.
I have a nice opportunity to purchase low priced student Adobe Suites right now as i am enrolled in Photoshop CS4 and Illustrator CS4 classes.
Here is my concern: I would like to purchase the Masters Collection or the Design Premium. Both of these suites have Photoshop Extended. They do not have just plain old Photoshop.
Will I be confused or unable to use PS Extended if I am learning standard PS in my class?
Will the DVD of lessons for my class (including images that are to be manipulated in standard Photoshop) work with PS Extended?
I just got a bunch of Photoshop styles in the form of .asl files and tried to load them on Photoshop, but Photoshop didn't recognise any of these files. The file icons are grey rectangles with 'exec' on them.
May I know how I can open these asl files that seem to work fine for everyone else?
