Mar 31, 2009Today the OS X dock on my late '08 MacBook Pro 15" stop working like normal. It used to be, when an App was open, the icon would appear in the dock with a sort of highlight.
Now, the apps run fine but no longer appear in the dock. If I minimize it, it does show as a running app in the left hand side, but that isn't what I want it to do. Is there a quick way to get it to work again?

Feb 21, 2009I have no idea what happened. it was working fine last week, and then the other day I tried to open up iMovie and i get "The operation could not be completed / An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" This happens every time i try to open anything in my applications folder. the programs on my dock open up fine.

When I started two weeks ago I had an Apps folder with the Apps logo on the dock to the right of the dotted separation. All the applications are there lined up with the first application showing but for my consternation I cannot put the Applications in there folder like it was when I started out two weeks ago. This is the Snow Leopard OS.

Feb 11, 2010I accidentally dropped my "Applications Folder" off my Dock when I first got my Mac and it disappeared. When I put it back by dragging the applications folder onto the Dock, instead of assuming the Applications Folder logo, it took on the logo of the first application in my Applications Folder: the Address book. Now, my desktop permanantly has the picture of the Address Book instead of the picture of the Applications Folder.
How do I fix this? ive followed other thread advice with no luck. Is there a way to re-set the Dock? Where does the logo live and how do I get it back there?

While doing this they completely messed up my airport settings so now I cannot connect to my home network. Is there anyway I can reset the network settings to default like they way they were before? Nov 10, 2009Anyone else have this happen to them - i.e. their preferred sound volume setting was not saved after 10.6.2 was installed? It's not a problem per se, because sound output still works normally, and the volume can easily be changed back, but still... it strikes me as odd.

I want to reset the default ambient brightness, because it stopped changing by itself after I manually changed the brightness with the keyboard. I made sure that ambient light changing was enabled in the System Preferences. From past experience, I think that deleting the preferences.plist file will do the trick, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

Dec 21, 2009Quite a while back, I had a real problem after installing some software from source that changed a lot of environment variables and stuff. Undoubtably, trying to rectify the situation without enough knowledge just exacerbated the problem.
Anyway, I still have a lot of frustrating problems when working in command line. For example, I just got an error telling me gcc isn't installed. Well that's unlikely, considering how much compiling I tend to do outside command line! However, whereis gcc does nothing.
Basically, I want to just reset all the problems I have caused and just set my paths back to default. I mean everything. Problem is, I dunno what they should be, and I don't know where to start. I know I have to sort my .profile, but even that is a bit taxing.

When I make a change I select the make default box in the show view options, but they never default except for that one finder window. I have erased com.apple.finder.plist and just for fun the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist but can not get the finder to go to a true default. Is there another plist that I am missing?

Now after start up white screen with apple in the middle the monitor goes blank. Is there a way to restart while holding down keys to reverse this since I can't see anything on display?

May 11, 2009How do I reset my "login" keychain password? I can't remember it. If it needs deleting, I don't have many passwords stored in that since I use Firefox most of the time and it doesn't store passwords in the keychain.

Jun 30, 2009i went about fixing up my mac ibook g4. it sat around for a while and i forgot the password to my user name. no big deal, happened a few times. so i popped in the mac osx disk. i did reset password. now here is a whole new problem i never encountered. and im not very mac savvy. basically i have no login now. when i go to reset password again it list no accounts at all... when i click on the hard drive that is.... what can i do? i heard that u can make a user name using the mac terminal thing?
