OS X Mavericks :: 10.9.3 - New Folder With Selection (x Items)
Jun 26, 2014
I am running on 10.9.3. I was working on my remote server and I selected files I wanted to create a new folder. By Right-clicking on the selected files and choose “New Folder with Selection (x items). The process was new to me and in the middle of it, I cancelled it. Now the original files are missing and there is not a new folder with the selected files. Did they get deleted or are they located somewhere else on the server?
My own account login items list in my systems preferences window is limited to one item- an istat menus helper app. But my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder contains two items that I don't recognize and don't think have much to do with starting up the computer. One is a Qmaster folder and another is named RDUSB00A3Startup. Each folder contains a few items, including a unix executable file and a plist file. My mac hd/system/library/StartupItems folder is empty. Can anyone please advise on whether the items in my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder are necessary and if deleting them could affect my computer? I don't use Qmaster and have no idea what the RDUSB00A3Startup folder is for.
System Preferences / Printers: Says No printers are available.
Clicked on + to add printer: Add screen is devoid of any printers; says "no selection" in both Name and Location fieldsÂ
Printer involved:
Epson Work Force WF-3540 - have had it for about a year and it has been working with no problems
Had a printer jam I couldn't find; rebooted a few times, etc. Eventually found the jam and then the above problem started. (I'm embarrassed to say that I found a toothpick inside the printer. It was once sitting on top and must have rolled under and in.)
All software up to date, except for a Pages update.Â
History of where I looked and actions taken (not necessarily in order):
Library/Printers was (and still is) empty, not the least because of multiple printing system resets.
-Have attempted to restore Printers directory from TimeMachine, with no luck. Epson printer drivers were restored, but System Preferences/Printers still blank. -Have attempted to install original printer software from disk, but it hangs in the middle, saying that no printer connection can be found, despite printing being online. -Have attempted to run Software Update to get latest printer drivers, but Software Update says that it is up to date and won't let me rerun. -Have run disk utility to verify: disk = okay -Have run verify disk permissions. Had loads of permission errors related to the printer library -Have run repair disk permissions -Have done the last two steps many times, but disk permissions don't get fixed and original problem has not changed.
Unplugged everything, took a break, factory reset printer, started all over. Nothing worked.
Also did the RESET THE PRINTING SYSTEM. Doesn't work. OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Also tried to download the drivers from Epson, but they just tell you to use Software Update and I already mentioned that doesn't work.
The only thing in the disk permissions list that looked suspicious was this message:
Group differs on "Library/Printers"; should be 80; group is 0 (repeated for various sub-directories (Icons and PPDs))
In the Print window the option to Print Selection is messing since the Mavericks update. I have only 1 option and that is to ring the whole page. What I am having to do now is copy and paste what I want to print into Text Edit then print.
I restored my mac from time machine, downgrade from Mac OS X 10.10 to 10.9.3. After that the position of the input method selection box is not right. The right place should be: After typing continually, the selection box jump to left edge of the screen: The problem occured in IM, word, web browser, etc. It's all right before I restored from time machine, in both 10.9.3 and 10.10. Some of my firends has the same problem.Â
I'd like my mac to monitor a specific folder, say 'TV Shows' and if a new file is added I'd like it to automatically put it into iTunes under TV shows, is this possible or is anyone aware of an application / script
So a few days ago, I noticed my Applications Folder shows 0 items. EDIT: My "Macintosh HD > Applications" has my Applications. However, "Macintosh HD > Users > ~~ > Applications" doesn't. What's the difference between the two? And if my Apps are in the Apps folder under "Places", what's the point of the one under my name?
Is there a simple way to keep folders and all the folders within a folder organized - my desktop stays arranged but it seems like every time I go into a folder it looks like it has been hit by a bomb - so I go to View/Keep arranged by/Date and everything is fine until the next time I open the folder to discover that - as often as not - it has returned to its' bombed state - I only use one configuration and would like to set it as the default - I have tried doing that by going thru View/Show View Options making any changes and setting new defaults but that doesn't seem to do anything.
I frequently want to grab a ton of junk on say my desktop and sort them into folders. Process is "make new folder, select all the items I want to go in it, drag them to it, name folder, move folder to where I want". What I want it to be able to do is select all those items and have a contextual menu command "Make New folder from selected". Ideally, popping up an Open/Save dialog letting me choose where to put the new folder and allowing me to name it. On closing dialog, I have my new renamed folder with all my selected stuff in it, wherever I want on my HD with no extra dragging and clicking. Does this sound worthwhile to anyone else? Am I missing some way that this can be done? Seemed like an obvious thing to me, was kind of puzzled to discover (AFAIK) no way to do it.
i Have over 40 gigs of files in my downloads folder (a lot of which is music) Is it safe to delete this folder? should i do something first? get an app to do it for me?
I click view and click to have them nice and neat in a list, but when i exit the folder and them come back they are viewed as icons and are all over the place not even in nice rows. Is there a default setting so that all items in a folder and folders within folders will be arranged in a certain view?
I was trying to find a way for items in a folder to get sorted by recently added. In other words, I would like a certain folder to sort everything in the order I throw them in. The problem is that all the items have different dates, names, size, etc., so the usual sorting methods don' achieve what I want and I would prefer not to have to modify the item names cause it gets confusing with all the items I have. The way the folder behaves by default also starts to fail when you reach the maximum window size, it starts to put some items on the right side and others on the bottom, in no particular order. I was thinking of using a Smart Folder or Automator, but nothing I've tried seems to work.
Finder > File > Find (Cmd-F) brings up the Search window. How can I search for items in a specific folder? Tiger let me select a folder in which the search is performed. How can I, on Snow Leopard, select a folder in which the search is performed? What about Lion?
I got my mail accounts set-up on Mail 5.2 and it's working properly in that I can send and receive mail from three different IMAP accounts. The only problem is that sent mail items are not showing up when I login online to access my mail. I would like everything on my desktop mail account to be exactly the same as what I see online as far as read messages, unread messages and of course, the sent items that I have sent should be logged on the original mail account as well as on my computer.Â
I have already enabled "store sent messages on the server."
Is there a way to see the number of items in a folder shown in finder?
Seems to me that in earlier versions, if you had a folder with 100 items (e.g., photos) in a folder in a finder window, when you clicked on the folder, something like "100 Items" would appear at the bottom of the finder window. I don't see this now in Lion.
I have searched for this as much as possible but am not finding any conclusive answer and am not a techy enough to try and figure it out myself. My laptop restarted itself last night for no reason and when i restarted it, all the items on the desktop were no longer there and in the Macintosh HD folder there was a ~ file with what seemed like a system dump (approx 500kb in size) Now Firefox and iTunes no longer work. iTunes says it can not find the library file. Here are some images of what it looks like: [URL:...] and here is the log from around that time too. [URL:...] This happened 6 months ago when i tried to install CS 3 suite and i had to reinstalled OSX and start all from scratch. If i delete the file and restart the laptop, the file returns, and then it begins to no longer recognize external hard drives and the only way to access them is via Terminal. i am backing up what i can for the moment but would prefer to know what has happened and how to fix it.
When you click on any folder on the desktop and you click the gear icon and go to the "Arrange by" option and select "Date created", it puts the newest items toward the beginning of the folder. Is there any way to change that so the older items are at the top and the newer are at the bottom?
I have a hard drive on my 2008 MacPro that's problematic and so I bought a new drive and installed Mavericks on it and am booting just fine on the new drive. There is however, one folder in the Library/Preferences folder that I need to copy over to the new drive. All the tricks for accessing the Library folder work great on the start up drive, but I can't seem to access the Library folder on the old drive (both drives in the MacPro as it has 4 drive bays), even though the drive will mount. How can I see that Library folder on the old drive? Note while I can mount the old drive, I can't boot to it.Â
so i used to be able to copy a group of items or a folder and paste it and if it was a larger file, it would take a little while. well, while that was pasting in the new location i could then copy a new set of items and paste them in another location. it would then process the paste of both of these things at the same time. it no longer does this. when i paste the second group of items, it sits there "estimating" until the first group of items is done.
How do I remove locked items from trash? I want to delete unneeded (duplicate) backup files that were on an external disk. I have not succeeded using empty trash or secure empty trash. I am the administrator. Mac OS X (10.9.3) Mavericks.
Am having several glitches with mail. I move emails from either inbox or sent to the trash and they return back where I moved them from. Trash does not always empty and I have to restart the computer to get the trash to empty.

Items in my calendar have the correct information (in info) and show up correctly when looking at the Today calendar view. However, when looking at the monthly view, an item dated July 20, 2014 looks as though it is set to occur on July 30, 2014 (see below).  Â
Enlarging the monthly calendar view does not work. Is there anything that will?Â
