View 2 RepliesMy own account login items list in my systems preferences window is limited to one item- an istat menus helper app. But my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder contains two items that I don't recognize and don't think have much to do with starting up the computer. One is a Qmaster folder and another is named RDUSB00A3Startup. Each folder contains a few items, including a unix executable file and a plist file. My mac hd/system/library/StartupItems folder is empty. Can anyone please advise on whether the items in my mac hd/library/StartupItems folder are necessary and if deleting them could affect my computer? I don't use Qmaster and have no idea what the RDUSB00A3Startup folder is for.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just created my address book with tons of email addresses and mail addresses. Was happy that was done, started to make groups and as I was dragging and dropping, creating a new group, suddenly there were only two vcards showing. I did undo add to group and undo selected card and that was the furthest I could go back to undo. Now I only have 2 addresses. I checked the trash bin and there is nothing in there from address book, no recovered files either. I searched and found a $99 service to to recover files but don't want to pay - seems that there should be some other way. What happened, and what can I do to find all of those contacts again?

Looking at the login items under my admin account all that is listed is 'itunes helper'.
Are there any non essential bootup items that I can safely remove?
I just discovered that I had deleted a bunch of "To Do" items by accident. I cannot find where they go. I cannot believe that there is no "Trash" type place for them and they are gone forever.
If that his how the "To Do" list works, I will have to find a replacement. Hard to believe that a single keystroke is so irreversible. I found myself somehow on the wrong row and deleted several items this way. Cannot find them anywhere.
is there any possiblity to recover the deleted items from trash

Today, I thought I would clear out some memory on my Mac Book Air. I had items in folders and dragged a number of items to Drop Box thinking this would free up space. I must have done something wrong as they items were not in the folders on Drop Box. When I returned to the documents left on my internal hard drive, the folders were intact but the documents in the folders were gone. The documents included keynote presentations, pages docs, numbers docs, and pdf docs.

I just upgraded to 10.6 - and was horrified to find out when opening iTunes again, my playlists, podcasts, purchased items, etc weren't there. It's a total iTunes reboot! All my audio content is stored on an external HDD (yes, its plugged in) - though the iTunes Libraries are on my laptop.
how to recover these without having to go through the hassle of Time Machine?

I am using OSX Mail and a me.com address, via O2 broadband in the UK. About once a day, Mail, apparenty randomly, reloads dozens of recently read and deleted messages. So, just now for example, I appear to have 68 new messages, and it's all stuff I've dealt with already, some of it is in the InBox and some is filed in other Mailboxes - doesn't seem to make any difference. So now I'm getting duplicates and probably throwing out items I meant to keep.
This is just happening on my desktop iMac and is not replicated on my iPhone or Macbook Air. It feels as if the sync between the iMac and iCloud is somehow corrupting, if that's possible.
This has been going on for a few weeks and so isn't getting better on its own (as I have read in other postings). It also doesn't seem to be linked to any other event. The iMac is on all the time, either in use or asleep, and maybe gets restarted once a week.
I am wary of deleting things from the Library in case I either lose ALL my mail or it decides to replicate every message in the archive.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy mackbook air keeps telling me that my start up disk is full. I delete items daily but keep receiving the same message. I have found that the problem may be that items are being saved in multiple areas on my computer. I don't know why this is happening and so I don't really know which copies to delete and which to save.It this point I cant even get software updates or compress files since there is not enough space available at this time.

How do I remove startup items to speed up my boot up in OSX 10.7.4?
Info:
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.4), I want to speed up my boot up.
I'm sure many of you know how using bootcamp can cause slow startups when switching OS's because it has no cache to use. For example I'll be in Windows and then need to swap back over to Leopard to get something done, but it takes forever. The worst part is the list of login items... I've tried using scripts to separate them by 10 seconds or so, but nothing really made it faster. I was wondering if it was possible to login but cancel or disable the startup items for that login that one time... Sometimes I just need to login to grab something off the internet or something quick, but it takes me awhile because I have to wait for everything to load.
Do I make any sense? :P
And no, safe startup mode does not count. I don't want to disable the entire system... just the login items.
Can't download updates because there are too many things on my start up disk. Where do I find my start up disk and how can I delete unwanted items w/o losing my important ones?

I have a hard drive on my 2008 MacPro that's problematic and so I bought a new drive and installed Mavericks on it and am booting just fine on the new drive. There is however, one folder in the Library/Preferences folder that I need to copy over to the new drive. All the tricks for accessing the Library folder work great on the start up drive, but I can't seem to access the Library folder on the old drive (both drives in the MacPro as it has 4 drive bays), even though the drive will mount. How can I see that Library folder on the old drive? Note while I can mount the old drive, I can't boot to it.
