OS X :: Leopard Not Recognizing Installer Disc

May 17, 2009

About two weeks ago, I lost my Utilities folder. I tried everything, then I tried to take the utilities off the disc that came with my MBP, but after about 30 seconds, the disc ejects, without doing anything. What should I do?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Make Boot Disc Without Installer?

Mar 15, 2012

I'm trying to make an OS X Lion boot disc. A failed Windows 8 Bootcamp install killed my Mac, but luckily I had a Time Machine backup which was accessible via the Recovery Disk. However, I would still like to have a boot disc handy in case something like this happens again and the Recovery Disk is somehow corrupted.

I Googled(among other things) how to make one, and the instructions seem fairly simple. Only, I can't find a Mac OS X Lion Installer anywhere. When I bought my refurbished iMac from Apple, OS X Lion was already on it. Since I didn't download it from the App Store it seems I don't have the Lion Installer to make a boot disc... Anything I can do (besides wasting $30 to redownload Lion from the App Store for the file) ?

Windows On Mac :: No Drivers - XP Not Recognizing OSX Install Disc

Dec 13, 2010

So I installed xp via bootcamp just fine. One problem; no drivers! I inserted the OSX install DVD in, xp did not recognize it. Under 'properties' it said it was a blank cd with 0 megabytes on it and 0 megabytes of storage. If I opened the DVD there was nothing there. I did get this CD from someone else, it is the 'official' OSX Snow Leopard DVD copied onto another cd, but theoretically everything is there. I am running a non unibody macbook pro 15", might I be able to download these drivers elsewhere?

Windows On Mac :: Full Install Leopard / SL Disc To Run Bootcamp / Update Disc?

Oct 13, 2009

Please take pity on a confused newbie. I'm running 10.4.11 (Tiger) on a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 13" Macbook with 1GB ram. My school requires me to run Bootcamp to take my exams. They told us that we need 10.5 minimum OS and must have our 'original system discs'. The installation dics that I have are for Tiger. If I buy an upgrade disc to Leopard/SL, will that contain the windows drivers I need to install after I install bootcamp? Or do I need to buy a full installation disc of Snow Leopard (since I think you can't buy the Leopard full installation anymore)? Another issue someone mentioned is that both Leopard & SL require 1BG ram minimum, which is what I have. I'm worried the os will run very slow, but I don't really have the money to buy new ram and get it install (and don't want to crack the fragile top case) now that I have to buy the new software too.

MacBook Air :: Ripping Leopard Install Disc Via Remote Disc

Jun 2, 2008

Well, my question is very simple: I have a MBA and this other laptop from work, a crappy HP which is old as hell. I'm planning to use Remote Disc to reinstall my Leopard, since the upgrade to 10.5.3 really screwed things here, and I can't figure out why. Point is: instead of running all Leopard installation thru Remote Disc, I would prefer to share Leopard disc 1 over Remote Disc and restore it to a partition on my external HD, making a clone of it, which would install *much* faster. Has anyone tried anything like this? There's any Windows program which allows me to rip a Mac DVD to a Mac partition?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Installer Won't Launch?

Sep 13, 2010

i have a 27 inch iMac. I'd like to reinstall Mac OS X SL from scratch. I do have the disks that came with the mac, but they got scratched really bad so whenever I put them in, restart the mac and start installing the system after formatting the HDD the installer gives me an error saying, that the system could not be installed. The disks are scratched really bad.

So I went out and got the Snow Leopard upgrade DVD, put it in, restarted, but I can't pass the Apple logo, I don't even get to the spinning wheel under the logo, it just freezes and the optical drive stops (I hear it stop).I've tried pressing "c" while restarting, but nothing works. I've even tried downloading Snow Leopard from torrents and installing from a usb drive - same thing happens.Does anyone know how to fix that?

Mac Pro :: Can Still Use Snow Leopard Boxed Installer

Oct 6, 2010

The first thing I do when I get a Mac is wipe the hard drive and do a fresh install (so I can customize). With my new Mid-2010 Hex, I used the included System disc to do the install.

But I'm wondering...am I able to use my boxed "universal" Snowleopard installer for the new Mac?

I'm trying to troubleshoot the display problem I'm having (random hits of static) and might try a fresh install from the boxed installer this time.

OS X :: Broken Installer (Snow Leopard)?

Ever Since I updated to Snow Leopard, I haven't been able to run software update nor install anything via the Installer app. The installer never gets past the "Accept/Decline" window. Once I click "Accept, it'll just bump me back to the initial installation window. I tried updating the OS with 10.6.1, downloaded from the Apple site, and the Installer won't run!! Disk Repairs, nor maintenance scripts, neither zapping the RAM did anything

OS X :: MBP Disc Drive Won't Recognize Snow Leopard Disc?

Aug 29, 2009

I have a 2007 Intel MBP, running Leopard. I purchased the family version of Snow Leopard. When I tried to install it, it just spins the disc for a minute, makes the noise like it's trying to read it and then spits it out. All other discs work fine with my MBP so I know it is not the disc drive itself. I have all software "up to date." My brother installed SL on both of his MBs, one newer than mine and one older, just fine (with the same disc). I haven't seen anything out there with this issue so I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone knows how to resolve this issue (beyond taking it back to Apple and exchanging).

OS X :: Snow Leopard (Installer Crashes Repeatedly)

Jun 13, 2009

I just downloaded the 10a380 build of snow leopard, and burned it using disk utility to a DL DVD. The burn completed successfully and the computer recognizes it. Every time I click on Install, it opens the installer and I press continue.. it says "Finding Disks" with a blue progression bar for about 30 seconds, and then exits the installer. I even rebooted the computer, holding down option, and when it gets to the screen with different partitions, the disk ejects itself. I have bootcamp with windows 7 installed if that makes any sort of difference.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Installer Cannot See System Drive

Aug 28, 2009

Sounds like people are enjoying Snow Leopard. I would love to join them, but the installer can't see my system drive! Disk Utility doesn't see it either. The only possible issue is that my system drive is an SSD, but it would be impressive if Apple managed to make their OS incompatible with a drive with a perfectly standard interface. Anybody else managed to get Snow Leopard installed on an SSD, whether one that came with their system or one they installed themselves?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Boot From Snow Leopard Installer DVD

Jun 23, 2012

I got a used MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz 17" (Mid-2010 - MC024LL/A - MacBookPro6,1 - A1297) running Lion only.

I want to put Snow Leopard on one of the partitions, because I still need to use Rosetta from time to time.  The computer didn't come with any installer disks... "no problem," I thought, because I own a Snow Leopard installer DVD (which says "Version 10.6" on it).

But it won't boot from that DVD.   The Apple logo stayed on the screen for seven minutes before I gave up.

Is that because this computer requires a later version of Snow Leopard?

What are my options for getting Snow Leopard onto this thing?

Software :: Leopard Installer Killed My Hard Drive?

Aug 11, 2009

Yesterday I bought the Leopard install disc and loaded it up. When I tried to install 10.5.6, the installer told me that I couldn't install that version on my hard drive. I assumed it was because I only had 1 gb free, so I quit the installer and restarted so that I could free up some space. That's when the problem began. The gray startup screen came on, but then the little circle icon just spun and spun for a few minutes, then the mac shut down. I looked up some solutions on another machine. I tried selecting a startup disc, zapping the pram, etc. No good.

I started in verbose mode and it said something about an invalid sibling pair, and the last command I saw was something like 'CPU end'. I ran the disc utility from the OS X system disc, and it was unable to verify the drive. So what the heck did the OS X installer do to my hard drive? Did it corrupt the catalog? I quit the installer, so it shouldn't have touched it. (The worst part is that my super duper smart update wasn't working properly, so I need to get the data off that hard drive or I lose 2 years of work).

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: System Installer Cannot Find Backup Volumes On TC

Mar 24, 2012

The disk on one of our iMacs has failed, so I am seeking to replace it with a new drive and then restore from the current Time Machine backups stored on our Time Capsule. My plan was to attach the replacement drive to the iMac via a USB enclosure, format it, and recover the volume and once that is complete, replace the disk. The problem however is that the OS X installer's Restore System From Backups option does not display the correct backup volume. The Select A Backup Source displays only "Data" on network "tc" under the list of backup volumes.

Clicking on Connect to Remote DIsk brings up the authentication dialog, and I enter the correct credentials, but the volume list does not change, and the Continue button remains grayed-out. The syslog data from the Time Capsule confirms successful afp connections, and df confirms that the Data volume is being mounted from the TC. We have three Macs running 10.6.8, all writing their Time Machine backups to a Time Capsule running 7.6.1. Each computer has its own Time Capsule login ID, and all Time Machine backups have been working properly (new backups are being created and can recover files).

Using the Finder to examine the volumes on the Time Capsule, I can see that each computer has an empty Data volume and another volume with the computer's name which contains the sparse bundle that Time Machine is writing to. It looks like the issue is that the Installer is only looking for the Data volume and not showing the other volumes. Is there a super secret keyboard sequence I need to issue to get it to show the other volumes?
