Well the lady I talked to at Apple apparently didn't know what she was talking about, and after 3 attempts to install Leopard onto my ibook 4g. I discovered that the laptop does not come with enough RAM to install it. So, since it was never installed, but obviously has been opened.. is it going to be hard to try and return it?
View 7 Repliesok, so i have a black macbook. im not sure what year, maybe 08 or 09. at first i tried installing lion via usb. i installed it onto a 8gb flash drive, inserted it into the computer, botted up, held the option key, and EFI Boot option appears. i click on it and i get the circle slash symbol. so i tried installing it onto a dvd and no luck. same result. I've done this several times before with other computers and its worked fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.3 from Snow Leopard my Python3.3 scripts, called through a shellscript, fail. They work fine when called from Python 3.3 in Terminal. The issue appears to be the path. Currently Python 3.3 is located in /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.3, whereas all the other installations are in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/..., and include v2.3, v2.5, v2.6 & v2.7, plus a "Current" folder alias. I read somewhere that simply adding the new path was not advisable. If that is true, what's the best way to include other version.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Time Machine backups started failing the other day with the "error occurred while copying files" error (asking me to run Disk Utility). I ran DU and the drive checked out fine. I eventually checked the backupd logs (Console> filter "backupd") and found that TM was stopping with Error: (-41) SrcErr:No Copying /Path/to/a/file/inside/aMacAppStoreApp. Then saying the backup stopped with error:11. So I deleted the App and ran the backup again. This time it gave me the same error on another MacAppStore App that I had installed. So I deleted that one too and then TM backup run successfully.
Background:
- There were only two MAS Apps installed (the two referenced above: Quick Note, ARD).
- Both were installed after being downloaded to a different computer, copied to this one, and then a copy made into the Applications folder. They were working fine.
- When I "installed" the Apps, I did not do a drag/drop copy, I did a copy/paste.
- There were two copies of the each App on the filesystem. 1 copy in my "software installers" folder and 1 copy in the Applications folder. Only the copy in the Applications folder failed to backup. The unused copy in the installers folder backed up fine.
Once the backups were working. I then moved the Apps from the "software installers" folder to the Applications folder. I opened the applications and they worked fine. I then ran the backup and it worked fine as well. So I'm not sure if Time Machine was failing because of my unusual way of copying them into the Applications folder or what? Thoughts? Either way, it seems like a strange thing to cause TM to completely fail.

10.6 Aluminum iMac w/wireless keyboard and trackpad.Working fine long-term, no recent change to the h/w or system software.All of a sudden pointing started operating as if permanently in mouse-down state. In Finder, this means that the mouse would move around the last-selected object. It is impossible to put the object down and so impossible to operate the Mac. Restart doesn't help.I turned off the wireless devices, replaced the wireless keyboard and trackpad with old, wired keyboard and mouse, and restarted. Normal operation was restored. Tried putting back the the keyboard, but pointing was disabled the instant I re-enabled Bluetooth. Now stuck permanently as if in mouse-up state, so impossible to operate. Fail.Temporarily OK with wired keyboard and mouse. Ihow to return the system to wireless keyboard and trackpad operation?

Without such clearing of idle memory I used to hear lots of disk access being done to get around the small amount of free 'core' memory. Massive arrays would eat up many Gb of core memory by turning it to 'idle memory'. Maybe there is a compile time option that I do not know about. But when i pop it in my MBP it comes up with the apple logo with the spinning loading sign at the bottom, and then the apple logo turn's into a stop sign, no disk movement no nothing just a stop sign. I'm was wondering if anyone can tell me what the stop sign is, i've tried booting it off my external hard drive but comes up with a folder sign and a question mark in the middle
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook with 1GB of SDRAM. I have OS X Tiger v. 10.4.6, and I just recieved Leopard v. 10.5.4, and I am attempting to install it. If it makes any difference, I have my harddrive partitioned - 40GB for OS X, and 30GB for Ubuntu Linux (8.10 Intrepid Ibex), and rEFIt to switch between the two. I booted into Tiger and popped in the Leopard installation DVD. A window popped open with an icon to install Leopard. I double clicked on this, and it told me to restart. So, I pressed the restart button in the window, and the computer restarted, automatically booting into the OSX DVD.
The Apple logo popped up, with the little spinning wheel. It churned for a few minutes, then it had a kernel panic: So, I did as the notification told me, and restarted. It automatically booted into the DVD again, and the same thing happened. Next time, as a booted up, I held the eject key down, and I was able to get the DVD out. So, I'm back to where I started, but I don't have Leopard installed. There are several minor scratches on the DVD, but nothing I would expect to mess with the DVD. Another thing: I popped in the Leopard DVD, and opened the Disk Utility after this fiasco, and verified the DVD. I got this error output:

this is my first posting but I am desperate and need some help Apple could not provide. Here is my situation:
- new iMac 9,1 2,93 GHz, 4 GByte, ATI Radeon 4850
- pre-installed OS: Leopard 10.5.6
I have access to a MBP and an older iMac. The MBP had a defective logic board some months ago so I decided to copy its content (after repair) to an external hard drive. I used this hard drive as my primary OS and used it with the MBP or iMac and did have the same data all the time - excellent time-saver for me. Now the new iMac was shipped yesterday. I tried to boot it from the very same external hard drive as well. It worked but there are some annoying facts I need some help to deal with: I cannot activate sleep mode with the new iMac. The graphics card seems not to work well: stuttering screen saver, slow high definition video playback, slow spaces etc. I cannot dim the monitor's backlight with F1/F2 keys nor the monitor setup. All these problems disappear when I boot from the internal HDD but that is not an option for me. It looks like the "old" Leopard installations lacks of some drivers. Is there a way to add them, is there another solution or will an update of Leopard 10.5.7 - at least most likely - solve the problem? Apple support did not feel the need to help for "exotic configurations". I was told a fresh installation of a retail Leopard copy on an external hard drive COULD work (no guarantee) but it would take me too much time to re-configure and I don't feel the desire to set up my system fresh and new like in old Windows days.
I tried to upgrade my MacBook from 10.4 to 10.5 but the CD has a problem. The installation failed halfway through and now I can't remove it. I pnly get a blue screen and nothing else. I want to restore 10.4 but can't get the CD out to reboot with 10.4. I'm new to Mac, now on my PC

On the first partition I installed Tiger with no problems but when I install Leopard on the second partition the installation is stuck at 1 hour and 8 minutes remaining and there is no disc activity and all I hear is the CPU fan. It has been stuck for half an hour now I have never had problems with the Leopard Upgrade DVD before. Before the Leopard installation I did the DVD consistent test and it appeared fine. I don't understand why the DVD is stuck.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I've only had my macbook pro aluminum body for about 4 months and after downloading the new system update, my laptopl just started acting weird and then it would just keep freezing with the pinwheel for extended periods of time. I've decided to verify and repair the disc, but to no avail, it didn't help. So, I backed up files in an external hard drive and erased my disc. However, after repeating to reinstall Snow Leopard at least 10 times, it keeps on telling me that it has failed to copy supported files. If I eject my installation DVD, it will just show up with a gray screen that has a folder and a question mark on it. I'm not sure what to do. I feel like I should take it over to an Apple store to consult with a Genius...but it is far from where I live. Any easy step to step advice on what I should do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed Snow Leopard but now my mac won't start up. (It's a early 2008 mac pro so it should be able to handle it). All that happens is it loads past the apple logo, the rainbow wheel pops up, the background loads and the search icon (magnifying glass) appears but nothing else at all beyond that. It just waits for ages (a few times that note has appeared that say's I need to restart the computer).
I've tried.
1) Re installing it
2) Reinstalling it on a different partition (that had windows on before) but nothing seems to work.
I really need to keep all my data so I want to be careful.
So I had an aluminum 2008 unibody macbook. I replaced the hard drive with a 320gb and it has leopard on it. I damaged it and had to get a new mac. I now have a white unibody mac. To copy every thing would be a pain. I'd rather use snow leopard. What I want to know is if I can use the reinstallation disc 10.6 that came with the white macbook to upgrade my 320gb leopard hdd to snow leopard?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought a used MaxBook (2,0 GHz Intel Core Duo , 2 GB RAM, 80GB HDD) and try to install 10.6 Snow Leopard (Family License).The MacBook HD doesn't have any data on it, as the pre-owner completely cleaned the HDD. I put the SnowLeopard CD in the CD-Drive and press the C-Button during booting and start the install process according to the dialog that shows up.The installation starts and shows me in the beginning it will take 34 minutes to install. The process continues till the countdown shows 28 minutes’ and then the installation process freezes. I only here some repeating noise from the CD-Drive but nothing happens. I tried this process now several times, I was waiting for hours that the install may continue, but no success so far.... Does somebody have any idea what I could do install 10.6 successfully? I don't think it's a license issue, but I want to add that I also own a MacMini and with the same install CD was successfully installing 10.6 on the MacMini.

Instead of migrating however, I want to swap my existing hard drive to the one of my new Macbook Pro since it's a 320Gb 7200rpm drive.
Is this going to work if I just drop in my old hard drive to my new MBP?
I assume an upgrade to SL will not remove any applications i currently run, unless I do a so called "clean install", but I just wanted to be sure: What will get removed when I upgrade?
