OS X Mavericks :: After Upgrade From Snow Leopard - Python 3.3 Scripts Fail
Jul 1, 2014
After upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.3 from Snow Leopard my Python3.3 scripts, called through a shellscript, fail. They work fine when called from Python 3.3 in Terminal. The issue appears to be the path. Currently Python 3.3 is located in /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.3, whereas all the other installations are in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/..., and include v2.3, v2.5, v2.6 & v2.7, plus a "Current" folder alias. I read somewhere that simply adding the new path was not advisable. If that is true, what's the best way to include other version.

Will my apps and stuff and things I've downloaded disappear when I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks? I am afraid everything will go away Do I need a USB to put my stuff in and then put it back when Mavericks has been applied? Because i'm downloading Mavericks right now and my iMac is so old it doesn't support half the stuff the new ones do. It was made in early 2009. And also, if it will stay, would it go away if I entered a different apple ID when it will reboot and say "Enter APPLE ID"

My Time Machine backups started failing the other day with the "error occurred while copying files" error (asking me to run Disk Utility). I ran DU and the drive checked out fine. I eventually checked the backupd logs (Console> filter "backupd") and found that TM was stopping with Error: (-41) SrcErr:No Copying /Path/to/a/file/inside/aMacAppStoreApp. Then saying the backup stopped with error:11. So I deleted the App and ran the backup again. This time it gave me the same error on another MacAppStore App that I had installed. So I deleted that one too and then TM backup run successfully.
Background:
- There were only two MAS Apps installed (the two referenced above: Quick Note, ARD).
- Both were installed after being downloaded to a different computer, copied to this one, and then a copy made into the Applications folder. They were working fine.
- When I "installed" the Apps, I did not do a drag/drop copy, I did a copy/paste.
- There were two copies of the each App on the filesystem. 1 copy in my "software installers" folder and 1 copy in the Applications folder. Only the copy in the Applications folder failed to backup. The unused copy in the installers folder backed up fine.
Once the backups were working. I then moved the Apps from the "software installers" folder to the Applications folder. I opened the applications and they worked fine. I then ran the backup and it worked fine as well. So I'm not sure if Time Machine was failing because of my unusual way of copying them into the Applications folder or what? Thoughts? Either way, it seems like a strange thing to cause TM to completely fail.

10.6 Aluminum iMac w/wireless keyboard and trackpad.Working fine long-term, no recent change to the h/w or system software. All of a sudden pointing started operating as if permanently in mouse-down state. In Finder, this means that the mouse would move around the last-selected object. It is impossible to put the object down and so impossible to operate the Mac. Restart doesn't help.I turned off the wireless devices, replaced the wireless keyboard and trackpad with old, wired keyboard and mouse, and restarted. Normal operation was restored. Tried putting back the the keyboard, but pointing was disabled the instant I re-enabled Bluetooth. Now stuck permanently as if in mouse-up state, so impossible to operate. Fail.Temporarily OK with wired keyboard and mouse. Ihow to return the system to wireless keyboard and trackpad operation?

I get the following error when running the xattr command under Leopard (10.5.5): Code: % xattr test.doc
zsh: /usr/bin/xattr: bad interpreter: /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/Resou: no such file or directory I presume that this is occurring because of an error in the installed version of python on my system, and I'm looking to reinstall it.
Does anyone know where I can go to find the official, Apple-supported package for Python under 10.5.5, so I can download and reinstall it? I've searched and I can't seem to find this.

... long time reader, first time poster!! So I'm doing it. I'm switching from PC to Mac. I've been waiting for a while now and the new MacBook Pro's have convinced me. I'm buying the 13 inch this week.
However I'm slightly worried about the upgrade to Snow Leopard in September.
My question is if I buy a new MacBook Pro this week and upgrade from the current version of Leopard to Snow Leopard will it be the EXACT same as the version of Snow Leopard that ships with new MacBooks after September?
Is the upgrade just the same as the full software version available post September? Does the upgrade it just detect if you have the previous software and installs as if it were the full? Or does it just "patch" things depending on what's different from previous versions?
I can wait till after Snow Leopard is released in September 09 if it is different to Leopard upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I'm currently using a MBP 13 inch and am running Leopard on it.
I just bought a copy of snow leopard today but i don't know if I should do a direct upgrade from leopard to snow leopard, or wipe my MBP and do a fresh install so i have snow leopard on a clean slate.
Have any of you tried the second option before? Or do any of you have advice on which path I should take?

I am curious about the system requirement of Snow Leopard. Since the performance and speed are better on SL, I think Snow Leopard will consume a little bit more resource of our macs., although I know Snow Leopard is just only the refinement of the software.
So, my question is that WILL YOU UPGRADE YOUR RAM OF YOUR MAC?

I've recently acquired an iMac and wanted to upgrade to Lion, however I believe I need to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard first - which could prove to end up costing a fortune! I've read recently that Apple are offering the upgrade to Snow Leopard free of charge for MobileMe users, however when I've followed a link to fill in a request form, this just takes me to the Find My Phone feature on iCloud.

My brother and parents have a Mac Mini each.
They have not the latest generation but the prior Intel generation -- that shipped with Leopard.
Being the family IT guy, last time I was in town I purchased the Snow Leopard retail DVD family pack upgrade and upgraded my parents machines to Snow Leopard. I couldn't upgrade my brother's mini because he had it away at school.
Now he is back at my parents house (as am I) and I was all set to upgrade his machine to Snow Leopard but I can't find the retail install disk I purchased.
However, I do have the Snow Leopard Mac Mini OSX install DVD that shipped with my recently purchased (latest generation) Mac Mini.
Question -- does anyone know if I could use this latest generation Snow Leopard Mac Mini system install DVD (the one that shipped with my mac Mini) to upgrade my brother's previous generation mac mini running Leopard to snow leopard.
Not looking to do a clean install but rather the upgrade.
Anyhow ever tried this? I obviously don't want to upgrade his previous generation machine with drivers, etc. for my latest generation --- rather JUST get his leopard upgraded to snow leopard.

I have mac mini (early 2009) running leopard and want to upgrade to snow leopard. I've bought a disk from a local store and when I try to install I get as far as 45 minutes to go when the installer reboots the computer and says it will continue to install after reboot. So it reboots kicks the disk out and reboots back into Leopard. The Apple site says it is probably a bad disk, so I got another one, still does the same. Apple also says it might be the dvd drive, I have no other issues with the drive, it installs the original leopard disks without problem, it reads video dvd's without problem, it verifies the snow disk as perfect.

I have the latest and greatest 10.5.whatever and while I bought and own the new 10.6 DVD I have yet to upgrade. The primary reason is that I use PGP to encrypt my disks and it is not compatible with 10.6 so I'd have to unencrypt and uninstall PGP Full Disk Encryption. (And that takes DAYS!). Plus, I use Adobe CS3 and I understand that has hiccups with Snow Leopard as well. If you upgraded, would you do it again? To be honest, I bought the upgrade because it was cheap and I like to have the latest and greatest but while this is the latest I'm not sure this is the greatest. (I don't even know what the upgrade offers me!)

How many of you are just fine using 10.5.8 and find no need to upgrade to Snow Leopard? This reminds me of the company I work for which has all company PCs running on XP and refuses to upgrade any company computer to Vista for the time being. I know, I know, Mac OS is way better...but I've read about incompatibility issues and it makes me wonder, what's the worst that can happen if I decide to wait a good 3-4 months to do the upgrade?

So I have 2 issues. My first one is that when I upgraded to Snow leopard, i cannot use safari. it says I have v4.0.1. and go to Apple store and download it though I'm a little confused and don't wanna mess this up. Also on my desktop I have a copy of the Applications folder and an Applications alias?? I tried putting just the app folder in the trash but then I can't open anything up. I usually just go through the finder and through Mac HD to find stuff for now as I'm new to Mac.

I have the latest MacBook Pro with Retina display with quad core. No attachments whether pdf, images, or documents will attach to any email program on any browser on the Maverick OS. This is a defect only with the MacBook Pro. My iMac quad core works great with attachments as would be expected.
Any answers as to why attachments fail to attach and gives the spinning beachball requiring a force quit. Eventually, I take the file on a memory stick to my iMac to attach it there on any browser with any email.
