I just bought the disc from apple, updated my computer to snow leopard, and am confused by this question mark. I have highlighted it with a red box for your viewing ease. What does it mean? It says "Item can't be found" when I click it.

I managed to get rid of the lost+found items on the iMac, but the DROBO says "The operation can�t be completed because the item �dir_1558208� is in use." as well as the rest of the contents.

I've had my wonderful Mini for less than 2 weeks and am trying to get used to it after working with a MS/Dell system since the early 1990's. I accidentally deleted Bootcamp and now when I click on the bootcamp icon on my desktop I get the following error message: The alias "My Boot Camp" can't be opened because the original item can't be found. What do I need to do to reinstall/make this work again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedTime Machine was making a backup to my NAS (a Lacie Network Space 2), when I suddenly got a power failure in my apartment. After that I can't access the share anymore. I can connect to the share but when I click on the share TM was copying to (named "Open Share"), I get the error message: "The operation can�t be completed because the original item for �OpenShare� can�t be found" I can access the other shares and if I use an ftp-application I can access all shares normal.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI didn't use the migration assistant, since I wanted to change some key things. What I did do, was copy some old folders from my old mac to my new mac. Oddly enough, during this change, the permissions on these files got locked. Now, since I'm logged in as admin, I can unlock these files and change the permissions, but there's a lot of items and subfolders within this one folder, that I've had to change them all one by one so far. Is there a way, either through finder, or through the terminal that I can just change every item within the one folder at the same time

When I save a file out of Mail to a local folder, it's not showing anymore! I make a new folder, save files to it out of Mail, and when I view the folder contents in the finder, it's not showing any files!
It's the same whether I save the mail as Rich text or Plain text. If I save as raw email, it saves it, but when I do a search, it only finds the file in Mail and not in that folder?
While dragging a folder from one Finder window to another, I accidentally released the mouse button when the folder was over the Toolbar. The folder now appears in the Toolbar and I can't remove it.

I'd like to set up the Default Folder, the one you get when you open a new folder with Finder's New Folder (Shift-Cmd-N), so the SideBar and, especially the ToolBar don't show up since I prefer the old fashioned behavior for folder windows. I can get No SideBar to stick but no matter what I do I can't get No ToolBar to stick.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi am a new mac user and have a macbook where I think the harddisk is broken. When I start it up I see a folder with a question mark in it. If I start it up in target disk mode and connect it to another mac I only get the dvd drive mounted (if there is a dvd in the macbook). I have read that I can test if any hardware is failing with the dvd that came with my mac, but I cant find those DVDs. Can I download them or ask for replacements somewhere?
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday is my one week anniversary of owning a Mac so I am still very new to this. I made a folder in the stacks section of my dock. It is titled games. In the folder I put alias's of the two games I have so I can just click in there and quickly access my games.
It seemed to be working exactly as I expected until a few nights ago. I noticed that the folder has a question mark on it and when I clicked on it nothing happened. I removed the folder and re-made it and put the alias's in again. It worked again for a few days and then the same thing happened again. This time I did not remove the folder as I got busy with other things. Eventually the question mark went away, but still when I click on it nothing happens.
Did I do something wrong or is my system acting up somehow?

View 2 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I rearranged my Applications folder a bit (sorted it all into 5 subfolders: Internet, Media, Text, Tools, and Utilities). I didn't realize that this would cause problems, but it did. I've had various error messages since then, but they've all been benign so far. But today, the first time I tried to use Compressor since I did the organizing, dragging clips to my Compressor droplet achieved nothing.
So I opened Batch Monitor, and where my computer was previously listed in the left pane, it says now says "No clusters found". I loaded Apple Qmaster, and my machine isn't listed as a cluster there either. So I checked in Qadministrator, and it doesn't show any clusters. I tried adding a new one named the same as my computer, but when I try to add a controller to it, the drop down menu doesn't have any options. I'd really rather not reinstall 10.6.
Sometimes as I send an email I won't find it in sent folder. It happens especially when I save a message in drafts before sending it or when I put addresses in cc or can.

I've uninstalled appdelete as I now use cleanapp. Anyway, I have uninstalled it but the contextual menu is still present. I have tried looking at the services and libraries but cannot locate the specific item needed to be deleted to remove the appdelete contextual menu item.

After getting it online I contracted a virus (should have loaded an antivirus program first). So I did a hard shutdown, since I couldn't close anything. When I restarted I went to options and made a bonehead move in selecting something that doesn't let me restart any farther than a "flashing folder with a Mac icon and question mark on it. How to rectify this?

It started the reboot after I (unsuccessfully) tried to remove iTunes 8.2 so I could go back to 8.1. I was following some instructions from another site, but interpreted the code to be segmented and not to be entered as one large command. So I entered this into terminal while iTunes was still running. "sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app /System/Library". I think the system was hanging, so rebooted the computer and that's when this started. I can't enter single user mode, diskwarrior has rebuilt the directory successfully, but no luck. I'm on a 12" Powerbook 1.5GHz with 1.25 GB RAM, Leopard 10.5.7.

SO i'm guessing it's fried and needs to be replaced?

I Googled around a bit and I thought that a quick repair disk in Disk Utility would fix it as it has for others but when I tried that I get this error:

This is a mid '09 Macbook Pro (specs in sig) so something going wrong with it was the last thing I expected, especially the hard drive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI work for a University and the school bought me an iMac in January. Before giving it to me they had a username and password put on it so that only I could access it. I took it home for the summer and realized that the login info would only work on the school's network. To get around this I erased the account by holding down "command +S" during startup. It solved the problem and I was able to login and use the computer however now it says iTunes cannot be located and therefore cannot be used and when I use Safari it will not save any of the settings changes like changed startup pages etc. I reinstalled Lion by pressing "command + R" during startup but still encounter the same problem. how to completely erase everything and go back to factory settings?
